I tried the best donuts in Sioux City. I didn't say they were good, just that they're the best in this town. I've checked: They don't have Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme here. Because those are both better. But this is a locally owned business and I give them points for that. Service is interesting; you order at a tiny counter when you enter. The donut man seemed shy, and just a guess, surprised to see me. But he was polite. Next, you take your donuts to the cashier and pay. She seemed to try to smile. She seemed bored but was polite. Then you leave with your styrofoam container. The maple donut is fresh and tastes very good. 4 star for that. Still, I'm not sure I'd go back. Or that they would want me back. I couldn't tell. The place itself, by the way, was clean, quiet and modern looking, with a hygenic, comfortable appearance. To be constructive, I'd point out that the most comforting part of a dining visit is the people. To say you just let workers be themselves means Jitters has no interior brand. Train these employees in how to make people feel welcome. Like you're happy they're there. Like you want customers to come back. Sit-down customers seemed to be enjoying themselves well enough.So maybe I was overly picky or just misinterpreted the friendly charm. Remember, I'm just some fat guy. read more

I just had a religious experience eating that cinnamon sugar doughnut. How have I NOT BEEN HERE BEFORE!?!?!?!!!?! The doughnuts are heaven. The coffee is wonderful. The atmosphere is amazing. The employees are super nice and helpful. There's obviously doughnuts and coffee, but they offer smoothies, sandwiches, wraps, desserts, and soups too. Small, cute place that has a few tables and seating areas. Counter service. Parking is tough but it's smack dab in the middle of downtown. I don't think they're open on Mondays... Seriously, how have I not been here yet? Maybe it's because I'm not always around DT Sioux City in the morning, and I'm sadly a Starbucks addict, but I WILL be returning here again soon, and frequently! They ask you to spend more than $5 if using your debit/credit card. I assume they would prefer cash. (I would if I ran a small, independent coffee shop.) I didn't check out the bathroom situation. Best Doughnuts in Iowa. They are best hot and fresh but I have bought 3 dozen at a time to take home back to the other side of the state and share with my family and friends there and they don't get stale and hard like other doughnuts do when they are day old they are still good even 4 days later. I've read many of the reviews regarding Jitters Donuts in Sioux City. They range from 1-5 stars depending on what you're looking for. When you talk specifically donuts, they are very good. We've been there a few times. The atmosphere is pretty good and casual. One of the recurring themes though, of the reviews and personal experience, is that of customer service. Depends on who assists you. Been there the last two weekends now and found the younger staff member behind the donut display case to be stand-offish and borderline rude the first weekend. This weekend she was blatantly rude. The staff member, with multi-colored hair, seemed completely over whelmed, as she tried to comprehend our ordering 7 donuts total, consisting of three kinds. When questioned she put her head back and rolled her eyes at us and was clearly frustrated. The line behind us had 5 people waiting. As she rolled her eyes, I asked her her problem and "what's with the eye roll." She then denied it as the customers behind us stated she was clearly rolling her eyes. There is so much more to this review, as it could short book length. I guess the deal is, the place has great donuts. Probably the best in Sioux City, but the customer service from at least this staff member today was unacceptable. She's not the only one either. And the thing is, people will continue going there because the donuts are very good. Sad. It could really be so much better and friendlier. The chocolate with coconut cake donut was really yummy- a combination I hadn't tried before. Nothing beats a fresh donut! Even though it was afternoon, I asked if I could order a breakfast wrap and the owner obliged. Try the Iowegian wrap: omelet with bacon and melted Swiss cheese in a flour tortilla ($4.50). Add a side of fruit for an additional 50¢. What a bargain! The famed Donut Robot is a table-sized machine that makes donuts in-house. There is a fresh batch made daily, and day-old donuts in the display case. It's a better deal to buy a half-dozen ($5.14) or full dozen ($8.88) than individual donut ($0.89). For large donut orders, call 24 hours in advance to place an order. With some interior furniture upgrades, uniform wall art or paint, and surround sound music, Jitters would be a totally hip hangout! I enjoyed chatting with the owner and employees. The food is fine and the atmosphere has a lot of potential. I'd love to see a merchandise counter selling t-shirts or donut-themed accessories. Best donuts in town. Staff is always kind. There's one guy who looks like he's half pissed off half amused but he's good at what he does so I just roll with it. Not my favorite place for an iced latte but I get them every time i come. Good wraps for lunch as well. I saw a negative review about wedding donuts. Im going to venture a guess that isn't a typical request for them so I'd call it a one off. Call ahead for more than a dozen. They get crazy busy in the mornings and want to be sure they have enough for your order or that they don't back the line up while someone picks out 24 donuts lol. Every time I come back into town, this is a must stop! I used to go to Sunshine cafe when I was younger and when I heard they had them here, I was excited! A warm smile to a stranger should be reciprocated, right? Well, this is not the response I've gotten from jitter's employees the last few times I've gave them service. The last few times I've been to jitters their customer service has been poor. It is not just one employee but all employees who I've interacted with and observed interacting with other customers is not well customer service. The employees are not friendly or seem pleased or grateful for the service they are receiving from customers, and even customers who are friendly to them. Still, they do not reciprocate the friendliness to their customers. Although jitter's donuts are great, I feel this business will start to lose customers if they don't work on their customer service. I would much rather have an "ok" doughnut with good customer service from the employees than a "great" donut with poor customer service where the employees' coldness or unwelcoming attitudes affect my experience; Typically, this is not an experience a person wants to start off their day. read more

Jitters is one of my favorite places to stop while in Sioux City. This time we attempted to use Jitters for my bridal shower - they were great about making special order donuts, we requested pink and white. The donuts were ready and we were able to pick them up early . Once we got to the shower and started to unbox the donuts we were extremely disappointed- they had stacked all the donuts on top of each other when they were hot and left them in the styrofoam container - when we opened the box all the top donuts were stuck to the lid and all the other donuts were stuck to each other. I ordered 24 donuts and was only able to salvage about 10 to be used at my bridal shower. I was so disappointed, I attempted to call two times the next day to speak with the owner/manager who both times was "too busy" to take my call. As much as I love Jitters for a breakfast stop I would not recommend anyone use them for any kind of special events, as they lack the ability to package their products effectively for special events. I will never ever step a foot back into Jitters (306 Virginia St) again. So my boss is buying us all donuts (Jitters is his favorite place being he's from Germany) so we send Joe* down to pick up 4 dozen. They (jerk off Jitters) refused the order once again after Joe* already paid. #1 Lady at corner takes the order and Joe* pays for them. #2 guy from back comes out and says no we can't give you 4 dozen because we are a coffee shop and proceeds to be very very rude. Joe* says he will wait for the 4 dz and this dickhead says no we don't want you to wait. If you need an advance notice put a sign on the door, post to your facebook page or something so your customers know. Don't refuse business. #3 When lady gives money back and when Joe* turns around to walk out after a few words about posting some bad reviews the guy says to Joe* "aren't you going to pay for your donuts" (which he never got) Joe* tells him that he did and they won't sell them to him from back calls Joe* a dick. Our company will never go back to this fucked up "coffee shop" again. We will take our business elsewhere maybe Sunkist bakery or even Hyvee. Jitters is a coffee shop that morphs into a deli at lunch. There's a simple, decent menu of hot and cold wraps plus salads. Everything we sampled was tasty. I had a Curry Chicken Salad wrap while others ordered a Veggie wrap and the hot Wok N Roll wrap. While the curry flavor could have been ramped up, it was a light, refreshing sandwich. The real treat here is the donuts, made from the original donut machine from the Sunshine grocery store bakery. If you remember those donuts, make a beeline to Jitters, because they're as good as ever. They make the best plain donut I've ever had, fried to perfection. We also sampled a maple glazed donut. Tried it for the first time !! When you walk in there is a lot of seating which is nice. Menu has many options not only do they make fresh doughnuts but great coffee I haven't tried any wraps or sandwiches but I have heard they are great. When I went in on Sunday the doughnuts were made fresh and hot !! My husband used to eat these doughnuts as a kid with his grandpa and it brought back memories !! There is tables out front and you can sit outside and enjoy the weather with a good cup of coffee! They also have a few couches good place to gather with girlfriends, family, or alone !! read more

Jitters requires a 24 notice on bulk orders, we ordered 3 dozen and called the order in within the parameters required and said we'd be there at 9 a.m. Sunday to pick them up. We get to Jitters at exactly 9 a.m. and told our order is not ready yet. Hmm, ok. We figured maybe they just needed to be boxed up, nope! They had just started making them!!!! Numerous customers cam in to get donuts while we waited to be told it'll be 30 minutes on just 6 donut all the way down to 5 on a single donut. As they made ours, a man came in and had ordered a dozen, they told him it'll be a while and he go upset, they gave him one of OUR dozen donuts!!! While we waited, I wanted to order and iced coffee, sorry we're out of ice! A little while later, a lady came in and ordered an iced coffee, guess what?? They was ice!!! Needless to say, it's kinda hard to mess up making donuts especially when you just put the batter into a machine and it does a the work for you. The donuts were of course good. The owner was even at the shop, in the kitchen the whole 32 minutes we waited for our order that was called in a day in advance and she didn't even set foot outside the kitchen to help her employees. This review is based solely on the cake doughnuts. And...O. M. G. Not supper heavy and dense like a normal cake style doughnut and not too airy like a Krispy Kreme product. If those two types were to mate and have a child...their gene pool would be a perfect 50/50 blend called a Jitters doughnut. That's just the flesh. I got an almond milk latte. It tasted dusty, which is usually a sign that something has gone rancid or is past expiration. I took one sip and had to throw it away. We got a Chicken Verona sandwich that's supposed to come with a pesto sauce. When we got it it had some creamy mayonnaise looking sauce instead. My partner brought it up asking what the sauce was and confirming it was meant to come with the pesto sauce. After the interaction I found out it was the owner my partner was actually talking to which is unfortunate because she was incredibly rude. When he asked very politely to have the sandwich remade with the pesto sauce, she pulled this utterly irritated face and just said, "Okaaaay" then turned her back to him and walked away. No "We're sorry that was our mistake" or "Oh whoops let me fix that for you." My partner sat back down and I asked the other woman at the counter, "The menu says that sandwich comes with a pesto sauce, is that right?" She said "Oh yes, that must have just been our mistake." So I said okay I just wanted to make sure because she seemed very perturbed that he wanted his sandwich remade. She just said "oh yes that's how it's supposed to come." When the owner brought out the sandwich remade this time with the right sauce, she still didn't apologize and the sandwich was a mess! There was three times as much chicken scattered around the plate than was actually between the slices of bread! So long story short, my drink was terrible, my tuna wrap was mediocre at best, and the owner herself was incredibly rude and treated us like we were such a hassle because THEY made a mistake. A simple, "I'm sorry, let me fix that for you" would have been spectacular, but apparently even that incredibly basic customer service was beyond her. I love the atmosphere of this cafe! It was my first time there, and I had a very tasty English Toffee latte with one of the original Sunshine doughnuts (had to get sprinkles, of course). Seriously, stop here for a breakfast snack! I also got to sit and read in a comfy chair for over an hour- good place to study I'd say.
