On my most recent visit, I got stuck sitting near a couple, and the woman was literally reading aloud from a therapy book. She was lecturing her male companion on the exact appropriate way he needs to talk to her in their relationship. I'm all for healthy communication. Listening to a live couples counseling session at nine in the morning is not exactly pleasant, though. It's a funky place, and they definitely cater to a specific crowd, which fits their eclectic, community-driven aesthetic perfectly. And I was the first person there. I made a point to get there right after they opened because I was on a road trip, and I needed to get back on the road quickly. So I ordered a quick toast and a Cortado. The coffee came out quickly and was good, and then after 15-ish minutes, I was still waiting for the food, I thought maybe they forgot the order, so I went up to my new bestie and asked them about it, and apparently someone who was supposed to be there to make the food wasn't there yet. That was extremely frustrating. I wish they had warned me in advance that there might be a wait for the food because I would've opted not to order it, but at that point I was committed since going elsewhere would just tack on more time. 20 mins after that, I finally got my toast. Yes, 35 minutes to deliver a toasted piece of bread with some toppings and a small bed of lettuce with blueberries and seeds. At that point, I was bummed cause now my whole day was delayed. Fortunately, the toast was yum, and I know this place is beloved, so I think they just need to make sure they have someone reliable taking care of the food preparation on Sunday mornings. No more Saturday night party people!

We were inside for literally a few seconds before we were immediately told dogs weren't allowed and that we needed to leave. We weren't even given a chance to respond, explain that I was just trying to order, or even be asked whether my dogs were service animals. I completely understand having a no-dog policy. That's not the issue. The issue was how unnecessarily abrupt and unwelcoming the interaction was. There are much better ways to communicate a policy to a customer who just walked in and clearly wasn't aware of it. Instead, we were basically dismissed before we could even say anything. So we left and took our business elsewhere. Grand Junction has already been a weird stop for us, and after this experience, we'll definitely be skipping this place in the future.
