If you are calling JJ, check your ego at the door. JJ thinks you are an idiot. You don't take care of your tools. He thinks you put crappy gas in your mower. He knows you didn't run the tank to full empty before storing for the winter. Your grass is too high and when you pick it up, later you're going to cut it on low and kill the grass and your motor. That even assumes you pick it up; he bets you will never show up again and he'll just spend time and labor and have to scrap the mower two years later. He thinks your weed wacker is a piece of crap. And he's probably right. I know because his garage is full of mowers and weed wackers. And they all suffer from this lack of caring for your tools. But you should go to JJ because he will fix your mower, clean it and make it like new, do it quickly, and charge you next to nothing. And JJ is a cool guy. I just happened to find JJ during an online search. Glad to have found him. Had him work on my McClane front throw that another shop said they could not not do anything more with and said a new motor was in my future. JJ and his son (?) worked on it and, voila it runs like new and the best it's ever run despite what the other shop was suggesting. What I liked is that he eliminated all the variables. I've seen the comments about how he thinks you're an idiot etc. For me, I appreciated him considering and ruling out the variables in order to fix what was wrong. I needed my lawnmower fixed on Labor Day weekend. It just wouldn't start and I tried several ways to fix it myself, all to no avail. I called around to several reputable repair services only to be told that they would need 3-5 days to look at my mower. I saw JJ on Yelp and gave him a call. Not only was he a nice guy, but he offered to see my mower that day, within the hour. I drove on over to have him take a look. He does all his repairs right in his backyard out of a toolshed, but he had my mower up & running, as well as cleaned and blade sharpened, within an hour. It's like he had X-ray vision and new right away what was wrong. Cost was only $35 which included diagnosing & fixing the problem, cleaning dirt and grass from the mower, sharpening the blade on his grindstone, and re-welding a bolt that had come loose. Considering that he was able to see me within the hour, and fix my mower same day, I think his price was reasonable and he's really just a pleasant guy to deal with. JJ is a rare find. I only met him once but I could tell right from the start that he was trustworthy and was going to do a good job fixing my lawnmower. And he didn't disappoint. In fact, he exceeded my expectations. He orginally told me it might take a couple days to finish but it ended up taking him only one afternoon. I got my lawnmower back and was cutting grass that same day. Along with the speedy service, he explained to me what might be wrong and what he was going to do to fix it. And he did just that. No BS. No tricks. No upselling. All this at a reasonable price. You can't ask for much more in a lawnmower repair. I would definitely recommend him. I used JJ for cleaning the gas line on my lawnmower for years - putting up with his BS just to pacify him. But he did do a good job UNTIL RECENTLY. The time before this last time he cleaned the line but when I got it home it still would not start. He said to being it in again and he did clean the line while I waited and it started for me when I got home. But this last time - A DIFFERENT STORY. Again he cleaned the line but again when I got it home it would not start. But when I called him this time he would not let me bring it in again. AND HE WOULD NOT GIVE ME A REFUND - even though I had given him an additional $10 over the usual $40 like he usually charged. THIS GUY IS A NUT CASE AND A DRUNK. YOU NEVER KNOW WHICH JJ YOU ARE GOING TO BE DEALING WITH. NOT WORTH PUTTING UP WITH HIS BS AND UNPROFESSIONALISM. HE HAS SERIOUS ISSUES WHICH SHOULD NOT BECOME THE CUSTOMERS TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH. I can't recommend JJ Lawnmower Repair highly enough. My lawnmower was in bad shape. He completely fixed it for a LOW price, cleaned it, replaced missing or broken parts (the pull handle had broken the first time I used it, and he replaced it) and I swear he topped off the gas as well. Good guy. Does it in his dingy little backyard. He left the mowers out and it rained overnight so I wasn't terribly pleased by that and when I took it home it did not start. So I brought it back. He took it apart right away, cleaned up the insides again and we discovered that the smoke was from also needing a new oil filter. So he put a new one on and didn't charge anything extra for having to bring it back and change filter. I did not run my gas mower empty from the year before so I think it was backed up. But for 60 bucks that sucker has ran nice and clean this summer. JJ will work with you as to when you can bring it in and out and is pretty honest and fair with pricing. My JD LA115 just died. Was running fine then wouldn't even turn over. Figured it was electrical and I hate that. Brought the tractor to JJ and he found two shorts and had it running in 15 minutes. An hour later the tractor was cleaned and the tires were all aired up. Happily gave JJ $40 bucks (instead of the 35 he asked for). JJ is a great guy. I wish I could give a negative star! I just came back from from his house on Norabell ave and it was probably the worst experience I've ever had with an online repair man. So I get to his house and he tells me to go around the block because there was someone behind me and I was blocking the road. He says when I come back he should have an idea on how much it will cost to fix. So I do that and I come back to see that he poured a gallon of gas in my mower and it was leaking all over the place. What professional pours a gallon of gas in a mower for a test fire? What professional doesn't check for leaks before he dumps the gas in a lot more crazy stuff happened from the huge gas leak to when I had to drive home in 31 degree weather with the windows down because I didn't want to choke on gas fumes. I come home and I clearly see that the gas line has been cut! The most screwed up thing was that it worked fine last week! no gas leak at all! all I came there for is a tuneup! Can not recommend highly enough! Motor needed a belt - he had 1 on site and replaced it. Sharpened the blade, adjusted the carburetor, pressured wash the mower, lubricated the front wheel drive starting mechanism. All this was done within 45 minutes while I waited. $40 bucks! read more

After reading reviews, I decided to give this guy a try. Boy, did I learn a valuable lesson. After he admitted that he could fix my lawn-mower engine, he admitted to me that he had to watch a you-tube video to make the repair. Not only did he watch he video to do the repair, but he also admitted that he installed the part incorrectly and needed to order another part, thus delaying getting my tractor back. I ended up paying him for his time to WATCH THE VIDEO. When I got the mower home and used it the first time. it developed a bad leak. Found out that he used the same old seal in the crankshaft instead of replacing it with a new one ($2 part). I ended up having to not only take my time but my son's time also not once but twice to get my mower fixed. I should have taken it to Dobosh Center in the first place. He cost me more than Dobosh. when he quoted me the price, it was cheaper that Dobosh but it ended up being more and he would not refund and deduct anything from the price. Very unprofessional, he just walked away like a COWARD and does not have the integrity to want to make it right. Very poor attitude and then he acted like he was doing me a favor. Big fat lie. Don't trust him unless you have something small and simple. I will NOT use him every again and will discourage anyone from using him also. I was very unhappy and not satisfied with his work. What a waste of my time and money. Through the whole process, I lost over 3 weeks to cut my lawn (over an acre). Very poor business ethics. read more
