Exposed light fixtures, unfinished trim...it feels like a remodel was started but things stalled out. The attendant was scarcely present, despite our requests for an audience. We were greeted by a note on the door even though we arrived during prime receiving hours. I said 'hello' when I saw her in the hallway while bringing in our luggage and she just put her head down and went on to load the washing machine without even so much as a smile. Our request to change payment methods went unheeded as she never answered our texts while we were standing outside her door. I understand that you may not be a people person, but it literally felt like she was going out of her way to avoid people. We spent 9 days in Alaska and visited a lot of lodges, motels, Bed and Breakfasts and by far...this was the worst and most expensive...even in Anchorage where one of the airport motels was a bit sketch, we found friendlier staff and a complimentary breakfast. I get it that resources can be hard to come by but a bowl of fresh fruit, a box of cereal, and some pastries from Costco would at least help guests digest the premium price tag on what amounts to a boarding house. We made use of the common space and made our own breakfast in the kitchen but that required planning and hoping we wouldn't be backed up waiting to use the stove or other utensils, plates, etc. With so many tours and activities with early start times in the area, it would have been nice to just grab and go...I feel like for what this place costs they owe you that much. Nonetheless, 3 stars for offering a bare bones room with beds...no frills, no personality, and a hermit attendant...seems more than fair. Hopefully this place wakes up to the potential they have to offer...but honestly, from my experience...it's just a little too lazy to even try. Sleep here if you have no other options...but that's about all it's good for...

The lodge is pretty much a bed&breakfast minus the breakfast part. They have a communal kitchen that guests can use as well as refrigerator both on the 1st and 2nd floor. They also have a firepit outside for guests to use. The room was neat and spacious. The only thing I wish they can improve on is to add provision to hang clothes. They don't have a front desk but the family lives onsite and they leave their number at the door in case we need to reach them. I did call ahead to let them know of my late check-in (8pm) which wasn't an issue with them. I did notice few people checkin in as late as 10.30pm.

The best place my family and I have ever camped. We would come back every year after year. Sue…read moreLange, the administrator, is the main reason it was such a pleasant experience. There is that feeling you get when you can message the camp host and she responds immediately with such warmth, that is in paralleled in any place we've camped throughout alaska. Not to mention the amazing view and tide walks with the kids in the morning and afternoon. If you have a second make a reservation, cause it is such a wonderful campground it's hard to get a spot if you don't have some foresight. It's in Seward but away from all the hassle and bustle and rigamarole that goes with camping in Seward, AK sometimes. Always our #1 choice and will continue to be for years to come. We have moved out of state now but be sure that when we return for a summer trip we will be staying at the Silver Derby. Thanks Sue for making camping such a great experience for our family and friends.

We found Silver Derby and it saved us from sleeping in the car. It was 10 a night for tents which was reasonable. There were a good amount of sites to choose from and they were all nicely covered by trees and very decently sized. The only two things that we didn't like were that the bathrooms were a slight walk away, they weren't too far, but it was pouring the whole time we were there, so you got soaked just walking there and the restrooms weren't very nice either. And you weren't allowed to have firearms in the campground which was just ridiculous in our opinion since we are in Alaska and there are bear everywhere. Over all we had a great experience.

The tents are large and nicely equipped with a table, a bed, and a sofa/bed combination. It is heated and has drinking water, electric kettle, lamp and two night stands. Service is quick and there is a hot shower available as well. The team is working hard to finish up the last remaining items and have been awesome. Camilla has been extremely helpful and worked hard to ensure that we had what we needed. I personally would highly recommend staying at Howling Wolf Resort!

Cons: pulled into the RV site and stepped down into a giant pile of dog poop + site is littered with cigarette butts. Ok - could handle this. But then, found THREE USED UNCAPPED HYPODERMIC NEEDLES lying on the ground next to the picnic table right where we were kneeling to level our camper. Got gloves & carefully picked them up and put them in the fire pit. Tried to go find someone who works here to report it, could find nobody. Called & left a message w the camp manager - got a text that they would follow up and they have not. 24 hours later and the USED HYPODERMIC NEEDLES are still in our fire pit. As reported before, RV camp is a barren gravel pit. There is also no water on property to fill the RV. There is an apartment complex owned by the same company literally 30 yards away, I feel like there could be a world where running water is provided in some form, even a single spigot. Got my mom a glamping tent and LOL. Luckily, she's the biggest trooper I know. Only one bank of bathrooms across the entire compound from her tent, as if an extra set of porta-potties are completely out of the budget. Only drinking water provided to her was 2 8oz bottles of water. Saunas are electric & hot tubs are those plastic ones you can get at Costco. You also have to pay $35/day to use them as an RV site camper and also $5/day to use the bathrooms?? But honestly, wouldn't take the time to leave this review were it not for the hypodermic needles & lack of care at all that they're here. Truly bananas.
