Whozaaaa! This spot is almost magical. The contrast of the coastline and their cave like seating area right in front of the beach its just almost unmatched. I ordered onion soup, salad, wings, and birria eggrolls. I do not recommend the wings at all. It was almost like they just caught local little pollitos and fried them wings. They were dried and tiny. The environment is awesome as you sit out on a patio overlooking the bay. The service was extremely slow and we would have had another drink or two if service had been better. We all ordered fish tacos and the fish was so dry we couldn't eat it. Not once did anyone come by to ask us how the food was or we would have sent the food back. We left the food uneaten and the waiter never even ask why we did not eat it. This is obviously a tourist spot and attention to details are not important. read more

They have this thing called the smashburger. I pretty much believe it's the best burger in town. My wife and I split it. We've been going there for around 36 years. We hang out we drink beers and we always have a good time. We also love the fact that the bar inside has air conditioning for the summertime that helps us out greatly. Love the Purple Onions!!! After being closed for several months during construction and new ownership.. we waited patiently to see how much of the old JJ's would be left. It's back with lots of changes .. first the parking area across the street was easy to get in & out of. As you walk in you're greeted by a souvenir shop (similar to Wrecked) with logo'd t-shirts, hats, stickers, etc New high tops and a bar area outside on the upper patio.. it being the first weekend open, they had plenty of staff. A waiter brought me menus as soon as I was seated. Drink menu has $4 margaritas and $3.50 beers plus lots of mixed drinks & shots. I went with the whiskey peach ice tea. It came in a plastic cup with a lemon wedge. Refreshing!! I went with the grilled shrimp tacos, served with avocado, side of rice & beans. Even though I asked for corn tortillas I got flour.. not a deal breaker. The grilled shrimp was delicious, this item should be served with a lime to really make the shrimp & avocado flavors pop. Good thing my drink had a lemon wedge. I did peak into the inside bar area .. It's the old bar with a twist.. the AC was cold!! Everyone looked like they were having a great time. Breakfast is served Fri-Sunday until Noon. I will definitely be back and would recommend a visit. read more

You can't beat this place - hands down. We had lunch here with the kiddos and had a blast. Great band, great food, great drinks, great ambiance. The kids went to the bay to fish while the adults grabbed drinks and eats. Wonderful place just to pass time. read more

So sad that wrecked doesn't own JJ's anymore because the food was incredible. Now it has been bought, and the food isn't nearly as good. I also use to love that you could get a mimosa with your breakfast for $2.50 and that has gone away. I asked the waiter if I could still get that and he said yes and we got the bill and the mimosas were $6.25 each. Too bad as it was amazing when wrecked bought JJ's because the food was awesome. Finally made it in! A new favorite place! My 2nd time in Rocky Point, I tried to make it up there last year, but the sand had drifted over the "packed" path & I was on my full dresser harley. Not an on/off road vehicle. I cannot comment on the food, but our barman was on point. Spoke english well and service was great. The layout is great, view is outstanding..Perfect place to grab a drink with friends and relax with your favorite stick! read more

It's a Rocky Point staple and well, I'd almost be embarrassed to tell friends back home that I made a trip to Rocky Point but didn't go to JJs. For the most part, JJs is a chill spot to hang out for an hour or two, have a drink or two and then make your way back in to town. I don't drink pina coladas anywhere, ever. But I drink them at JJs...pina colada con cinnamon. I like to buy a cup of atomic cherries (cherries soaked in kerosene...kidding! soaked in rum or Everclear or something super obnoxious) and make all my friends eat one. The faces they make, it's hilarious! The food is mediocre here but for a relaxing, chill spot to look out over Cholla Bay, you can't beat it. read more

The avocado and corn crunch wrap was SO good! The portion was big enough to share. The chips & guac were also very flavorful and delicious! The location was beautiful. This is a good place to spend the evening on summer days, it has a nice view of the choya bay, you can even go down and swim a little (there is a lot of rocks though) I ordered a piña colada which was a 3/5 in my opinion. We have been coming to JJs for over 30 years and couldn't wait to see the newly remolded version since it was bought by the Wrecked Company. I would say I was pleasantly impressed with the bar inside and patio out back. It is no longer that No Shirt No Shoes watering hole it used to be, but did retain some of the vibe. Felt a little corporate with the Swag stand. Still has that iconic terraced patio overlooking the bay. My only major disappointment was the food. Sadly, it was not good at all. I think they are trying too hard to be different but it's failing. Bring back the tacos, quesadillas, and burgers! I hope the word gets to ownership about what they need to improve. Then this would be a five star review no problem. There is no place like it! read more

Dropping by J. J.'s Cantina whilst in Puerto Penasco is something that I like to do at least once on any vacation down there. If you are staying in any of the Sandy Beach condos, just take the road on the land side of them toward Cholla Bay (La Cholla or La Choya)--there are signs indicating the direction--and you will eventually see J. J.'s on the right once you are in the town of Cholla Bay. J. J.'s is a bar straight out of Jimmy Buffet's "Margaritaville" with a cast of regular characters to match. On one bar stool, there may be a guy who has drifted all over tropical realms only to wash up in Cholla Bay, Mexico, and beside him may be a businessman and his wife from Arizona who have their second or third home in Cholla Bay. It's that sort of place. The crowd is friendly and quite interesting, and I have met some fascinating people there. The bartenders are hospitable, and the drinks are quite reasonable. In addition to the inside bar, there is an outside back patio that slopes down a hill in terraces with tables to the rocks and water below. The last time I was there, my mom was with me, and she quite enjoyed sitting out back at J. J.'s and sipping on her diet coke. J. J.'s Cantina is a Cholla Bay institution, and you owe it to yourself to check in out next time you are down in Puerto Penasco. read more

We stopped in a couple of weeks ago with friends (they love this place), and I'm still a little mystified as to why they like it so much. It is on water, somewhat. The bar is open in the morning (that's the only time we ever go there). It does have a stopped in time, kind of energy. Other than that, the service is adequate. The mixed drinks are a little on the weak side. The food offerings are probably the poorest in the entire area, and the road (kind of maintained) to get there is best travelled in a truck or SUV. JJ's is probably a great hangout (the only one) for the folks that live or stay in Cholla Bay, but for us Sandy Beach and Maleconers, there are other, mostly better options for partying, food and drink. read more
