There was a nice mattress that was very comfortable. I was able to plug my cell phone in right next to the bed so I could use it while it charged--yay! There were three different lamps for light, a nice bathtub and shower, a little shelf on the wall next to the bed to keep the TV remote, no nightstand. Shampoo, etc were available. My pictures are kind if yellow-y due to the artificial light but the room was very pretty. I highly, I mean HIGHLY,recommend to others! The location is very convenient, even though it's on a highway- from your room you cannot hear any cars/traffic, there is a very good italian restaurant next door to the inn and an ice cream shop a few blocks down. Clearly, there is no way I could not like this charming little place in the heart of downtown Alpena. I popped my head in here one day while doing the fall color tour thing up north with my husband and was impressed with how adorable the place was. The owner was there and seemed super friendly, too. The ambiance was cute as can be and everyone seemed warm and friendly. We stopped in for a bite to eat and wound up grabbing a few baked goods for the road. The cupcakes and cookies were pretty good. Aside from being a baked goods shop, they also sold sushi! Yes, I said it- sushi! I wasn't expecting that and I'm not sure how good it was, but the fact that this little lunch spot had sushi was kinda impressive. Other than sushi, they had a host of other decent lunch items on the menu that day, including fresh wraps and salads, as well as the aforementioned baked goods. I was slightly bummed out to see that they didn't have a bigger selection of vegetarian-friendly options, but it was a small cafe in a relatively small town, so I get it. But hey, they had sushi! Maybe next time, who knows?

I hope no one else has to go through what I did on my wedding day because of Doreen Thomas. I had…read morefive bridesmaids and only four bouquets despite specific written instructions to her for five (she told me it was my fault and I never told her - I showed her the email that she replied to in which I advised her there were five girls). She charged my two bridesmaids who helped put together the bouquet less than an hour before my ceremony on the spot in cash for the bouquet she forgot to do. I specifically said NO carnations in any of my arrangements and every single centerpiece had many. The vases I picked out were not at the reception and she said they had been broken and she didn't tell me because there was nothing she could do about it. That resulted in many of my flowers looking like they were being drowned and cheap. Doreen charges a premium in Alpena for her services and I trusted her because of her blindly. I paid her 90% of my bill (which was large!) up front a month before my wedding and on the day of my wedding as soon as I arrived at the church she was standing there waiting to collect the other 10% in cash. I paid again, even though I expressed concern about how the reception area looked. I have tried to speak with her reasonably and she refuses to talk to me or my mom in order to sort things out because she claims her "lawyer advised her not to." I haven't seen one dime back for all of the things that she did not do that she said she would and the things she did just horrifically. I cannot express the extra stress this caused throughout my wedding day and I hope that no one else has to go through that. These are just a FEW of the things that went wrong with Doreen. Please find someone else to help you on your special day...no one deserves to have it ruined. Also, if you notice, she won't even let anyone comment or post on her Facebook page - I doubt I'm the only unhappy client out there.
