The only reason this establishment receives 2 stars is because the staff seem nice. The environment is comfortable. I have no idea what they've done regarding the food. I've ordered takeout for years but the past 2 times will prevent me from ever ordering again. What a joke. The salad was dried up spring mix greens (since when?), no tomato, no onion, no egg, just 2 dried up hard pieces of turkey & 2 dried up hard pieces of ham. Awful! Last straw for me. I've watched this wonderful restaurant plummet over the past 2 years. This is very sad because I'm sure people worked very hard to create this dining facility. I go to JK's often for breakfast. The service can be great but other times not so much. Today, I went with my family for breakfast to celebrate my dad's 83rd birthday. The older lady who was to be our waitress was down right mean. She acted angry that our party of 9 came in. She tossed the menus on the table and did not acknowledge us further. We asked for an extra chair, which was refused. No explanation, no offer for another solution, no empathy, just dismissed. No offer to take our drink orders or to interact with us at all. We decided it was best to just leave and we ended up having a great experience at the local Cracker Barrel. I guess they appreciated our hefty bill and the tip we gave our kind server. I think my days of visiting JK's are over until mgmt looks at their wait staff and how they treat customers. read more

We were meeting family for a quick lunch before beginning the long drive back to Florida so we consulted the local Yelpers. JK's came up with great reviews and the family said it was good as well. Very homy and local feel upon entering. We were seated quickly. Lots of great options on the menu with breakfast and lunch available. I had their rueben with the house dressing. We've been passing this place for at least a month or two, so decided to give it a try for breakfast after a good gym session this past Sunday. Definitely your local old folks hang out. I swear everyone was in there after church! Walked in the door and were immediately greeted by staff and the smell of breakfast! Sat ourselves and our drink order was taken right away. There's a lot to look at on their menu, but you can pretty much get a side of anything! They also have a specials board, which I suggest checking out too. I'm pretty basic with my breakfast -- eggs, toast, bacon, some kind of potato (which is exactly what I got this time around!) I also ordered a side of French toast, which was pretty tasty. I happily finished my breakfast and have no complaints. My husband and I both ate decent sized meals for roughly $20-25. I noticed they have holiday specials and our server even told us about the Valentine's Day dinner they offer/that they were taking reservations. Everyone was pretty friendly and the service was fast. No complaints about the cleanliness. Even the bathroom seemed well kept. I would be interested in trying out their lunch or dinner menu, for sure! read more

This is a one-time review of JK's Deli Restaurant. ALL the other times, the restaurant is good and with decent service. For the service today, though, I would give it just One Star. However, I didn't, because our poor experience was for today only. It was the service. Our server took our order and supplied us with our beverages (tea for wife, water for me). When our meal was ready, the server brought it out to us and responded to our positive comments. So far, service a little slow but good. Server was friendly. Then our server disappeared. All the servers seemed to disappear except for the server on the other side of the room. No one checked on us to see how our food was or if we needed anything. Finally, my wife drank all her tea. We put the empty glass at the edge of the table to signify more tea is requested. Nothing. Finally, I took the empty tea glass and went to the entrance to the kitchen where the servers pick up their orders or do their business. No one. l saw someone in the kitchen area (the only server in sight other than the one working the other side of the room) and she had telephone headphones on, likely to answer calls. I could see she was working on prepping something. I just stood in the door and called gently, "Yoo Hoo!" hoping to get the attention of another server. I wasn't loud, but I was persistent as I steadily held my wife's glass in hand. I was just trying to get someone, preferably not the person I could see already involved in something. However, she answered finally and said that someone will get to me when they are able. The server from the other side of the room passed through and asked if I needed anything. I said that I just needed a refill on the tea. With a good attitude, she obtained a fresh glass of tea and gave it to me in a very kind and helpful manner. I went back to my table with my wife's tea. Since the service seemed slow, I put my credit card on the edge of the table so we could pay for our meal whenever our server came by. However, still no one showed. We finished our meal, we needed to pay (no ticket for our order summary and cost) and we needed to-go boxes. Still no sign of her. I took my card up to the cash register to pay. Our server was talking to the head server (with the headphones). When I got to the counter, our server disappeared and the head server rang us up without us ever seeing the bill. I'm quite sure she would have shown my bill if I had asked. I then asked, because I'm trying to help, if there was some time during the day that would be better for us to come to the restaurant when they aren't stretched for help. It was an honest question as I tend to be a helpful person. She then lit into me, that I was rude. She said that I stood at the door shaking my glass to get attention, and I was being quite rude. I can tell you that I never shook my glass at anyone. I just held it and gently called "Yoo hoo!" I'm thinking she was the person who was rude, but I didn't say anything. Perhaps she was having a bad day. Well, her day boiled over into mine. Hence, there is this review of JK's Deli and Restaurant in Yelp. It would be a One Star that day, but I put Four Stars as it is usually very good. I don't always like reviews in Yelp as sometimes they come across as passive-aggressive. I'm trying to avoid that, but I am expressing my upsetting experience as a customer today. For the head server, she likely had many things going on, and my standing there with an empty glass in hand got blown out of proportion in her mind. And yes, I'm one of the older, white-haired people that eat at JK's, but it doesn't mean I can be abused, either. I'm done. I'm going on with life as this isn't the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I'm sorry the head server had a bad moment, especially if I were a part of it (but not the cause). However, ALL of this could have been avoided if a server would have just come back to our table and checked on us and filled my wife's tea glass. Don't stay away from this restaurant. Just be aware that the service isn't always good. By the way, I found the server that did get our tea, and I gave her a dollar and said, "Thank you for helping me." read more

Googled a good Reuben sandwich and came across this place- well done Google! This place is a gem! My husband and I both sat down and got nostalgic for little diners in our hometowns. First time here, & a real nice experience. It's a casual dining restaurant that's clean, reasonably priced, with friendly & professional service. Went for breakfast, so only saw that menu, but they had a nice variety. From simple egg plates w/ grits, to french toast, & it was all priced to eat. Check their daily specials board as well. They have some good looking desserts, if only I wasn't full. Servers were attentive, professional, & friendly. All qualities you want. Restaurant is clean & casual, with a small outdoor dining area, which looked fine. Looking forward to going back for dinner while I'm here. I try to give local businesses the benefit of the doubt. Except the steak I received here was so grissely, I sincerely wondered if my meat came from a cow. I don't expect grade A wagyu beef, but the meat I was given was absurdly stringy, chewy, and worst of all, it was lukewarm, borderline cold on my plate, along with my eggs and hashbrowns. Also, the cheese in my friend's omelette hadn't melted all the way through. Disappointment all around. Service was pleasant, our server was attentive enough not to seem overbearing and good enough to check up on us twice while there. Nothing to brag about. Inside was clean and the decorations for the winter holidays were a nice homey touch. Parking was ample. I've been eating here for a while now (breakfast only) and this is a good choice for breakfast in town. The food is generally cooked well, but they lose a star for their inconsistency. It's just not the same experience every time. For instance, today my grits were too salty to eat and my scrambled eggs were scorched and over-cooked. Other times the hashbrowns are completely different. Sometimes you get a good size piece of country link sausage and sometimes you get a little piece. That being said, it has been on point plenty of times. I've had great fried pork chops and country fried steak, but other times it was a miss. The other loss of a star is for the slow, albeit friendly, service. There is no signage in the place telling you to seat yourself. We were completely ignored on our first visit and I've seen other obvious first-time patrons ignored as well. Once you have found a seat, it can take a while before your first visit from the waitstaff. However, the food generally comes out in a timely manner and once your are seated and have received drinks the service is generally very good. read more

ok, so since my last posting I have been to JK's four or five times, all for breakfast. They are so very consistent in their food, the seasoning, the tastes and the experience. I even used their pick up option (they have a drive thru!!) a couple of times. JK's for breakfast is THE place to be! The only, the ONLY, downside to this place I'd say is that their soft drinks/soda fountain issues are much to be desired. Otherwise, tasty food, reasonable priced, consistent in their quality, and fine fine customer service. Ya gotta give 'em a try, you'll be a fan! ok, so enough of the glowing review for their breakfast. My wife and I decided to check them out for their lunch cuisine. And I was interested in everything they had available on their menu's, from Gyros to calamari, to staples like burger and fries, fish -n- chips, and such. My wife tried the steak gyro and it was a fat, huge gyro that left her satisfied. Nicely seasoned, the streak and cheese within, mixed well with the onions and green peppers... oommggg! And I gotta say, the fries that accompanied the gyro, crisped of awesomeness! I decided to try their hot wings (unbreaded and deep fried, 6 for about $8), calamari and the main course, the grilled chicken sandwich. I figured these were basic things and easily enough to make versus, say lasagna or beef liver (they have these on the menu too!). And so here is where my wonderment and satisfaction with JK's hit's an abrupt end. (this does not in any way affect my thoughts about their breakfast however). The wings were pathetic in size, greasy to the touch and the sauce it came with was about an inch of grease/oil on top before you even got a hint of taste of the sauce. The calamari, totally the frozen type you'd find at the local Food Lion. Tasteless (but not oily), unseasoned rings of some squid meat with occasional pieces freezer burned. Gross.. And the marinara it came with was so sweet, I was surprised I didn't fall into some diabetic coma afterwards. The calamari and accompanying marinara was bad. Avoid it! The grilled chicken sandwich started to look up. A high, well seasoned chicken breast sat on a nice burger bun (ok ok,the chicken was so big, it hung over the sides of the little bun... but to me, that's a good thing!). It came with some overripe tomatoes and a couple of slices of iceberg lettuce. Gross. JK, if' your reading this, PLEASE switch from iceberg to romain, or green/red leaf, or something beyond the crappy cold, crisp, empty of calories and taste iceberg lettuce. Would have ruined by sandwich if I didn't remove it first. I am still a big fan of their breakfast, and will probably go back and try their lunch specials again, especially after I shared with the cashier (the Manager? Mr. JK himself?) my dissatisfaction and his assurance if I were to return he will take care of us. Next time, I think I'll try the burger and stay away from the appetizers. read more

My husband and I are from a smaller town in northern Wisconsin, where we do not have establishments like "IHOP" and "Waffle House," so whenever we run into smaller "ma and pop" family restaurants we HAVE to try it. Has this place changed hands? We have been eating here about twice a year for eight years now and this last time was disappointing. It was a Saturday morning and it was understaffed. We waited for someone to wipe our table, waited for our order to be taken, then waited again for the food while watching other tables having difficulty with their orders. My husband ordered an egg white omelette and it came out as a scramble instead and was missing ingredients. It also was as large as only 1 egg but cost $9! I asked for honey and the waitress said, "we're not stocking honey any longer but we used to have it." They are carrying generic jellies on the table as well. Coffee was absolutely disgusting. Food was not fresh. Spinach In the spinach and feta omelette must be frozen got pulled to thaw and was left out for days. I pay over $2 for a piece of French toast (1 darn piece) and you're telling me if I want powdered sugar I have to pay an extra .15 cents? Refills for sodas cost money. Seems they charge for everything and you get the worst. We are in the restaurant business, so we know what to fairly expect. Never going back again. read more

Yet another Greek run restaurant in Fayetteville. Very good home cooking with surprises like the feta cheese Greek omelet every morning, the moussaka that appears every now and then, the lamb on Sundays (Greek-lamb... need I say more?).
