This was the most down home cooking I've had at a restaurant in awhile. The pancakes were moist, potatoes were perfect, and the grits were wonderful! Super yummy option for breakfast. I came after PT Thursday morning with three others. I got the sausage scramble and my partners got the country fried steak. They loved their food. I also got a side of grits. Very very good. I got a side of bacon. It was not good at all. Only ate half a piece. But the potatoes that came with the scramble had sautéed onions and green peppers with it. And those were really good. read more

Omg y'all. I have worked in Fayetteville for years. Years and never eaten here. I been missing out. So we stopped in for a quick lunch and I got the Friday lunch special- hamburger steak with onions and gravy. It was exceptional. The collards tasted homemade with lots of smoked meat. I ordered the lemoncello cake to go for a snack later in the day. I was so full from lunch I didn't eat it and just had it the next day. This cake was so good. Apparently it is very popular and someone ordered three slices at lunch. Go and get the cake. Yes, get some food, but order dessert first you will be glad you did. read more

Short Summary: Classic comfort food diner, easy going and friendly staff, good food for meat eaters but not the best vegetarian option. I really enjoy Rainbow restaurant. I've been here 3 times now, twice for lunch and once for breakfast. Both lunches were accidental(I wished they served breakfast all day!!) and will definitely say I prefer their breakfast menu. Lunch menu has very limited vegetarian options(limited to select appetizers and sides). The restaurant is cute on the inside. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seated. AMBIANCE is great, bustling/busy little restaurant with associated noises- not too loud but a gentle roar. FOOD was delicious! Potatoes were a tasty standalone side but paired amazing with over medium eggs. I tried the gravy by itself, then added salt and pepper, then tried it with the biscuit- unnecessary seasoning added, the biscuit is soft and rich in flavor, greatly complemented the gravy. Sausage was good. Coffee is bold and has a good nice flavor. SERVICE always available but not insistent- and was incredibly polite/quick. read more

It's like real home cooking where you can't really guarantee it's going to be great, but none of it's terrible. They use minute rice which I don't love, but I'm somewhat accustomed to it at this point. They make hush puppies that don't include onion which I do love. I've never had hush puppies that didn't have some onion flavor to it. I wish places gave that as an option. I think they're pretty great. They used to have a really great silk pie, but I think it's off the menu. They always ran out so it was obviously very popular. They might be more popular if they used the opinions of customers to decide what should and shouldn't be changed. read more

My son and his girlfriend recommended this ma-n-pa restaurant over on Ramsey St. during our trip to visit them both last February. We decided to patronize this restaurant on a Sunday morning and wow was it crowded! IIRC the wait time was about 30 minutes, but since we only had a party of four, we ended up getting seated pretty quickly. We all found that this was an excellent place for a Sunday breakfast (or anytime for that matter...) as evidenced by the crowd that filled the inside. We all had our favorites and I really enjoyed my 'super skillet' which was outstanding. Overall, a really nice place and wish my wife and I had patronized this venue back in the mid-80s when we were stationed at Fort Bragg! Win some, lose some...but I'm just glad that my son and his girlfriend recommended this place! Heck, they've been around since 1938! I wanted the hamburger steak combo with an omelette but was told I couldn't order it that way. So I got eh hamburger steak by itself, French toast slices with cinnamon and sugar, a veggie omelette with ham and cheese added, grits, potatoes and biscuit French toast was good, no issues there. The hamburger steak on the other hand was SUUPPEERRR DDDRRRYYY, disgusting no flavor. And I like hamburger steak but this one was made horribly. The omelette was disappointing, whenever I get an omelette all the ingredients are usually wrapped inside the omelette. This was really just and egg folded over and ingredients sautéed and poured on the top. Hardly no cheese or ham. Grits were fine, they weren't runny or too thick. The potatoes were seasoned good. I've only been to this place during breakfast time; hence this review will on reflect service, menu, etc. during the said time. My Army buddies introduced me to this place said I should try it out since they know I am a foodie and I like to try different places to eat. The first time I came here was after PT, and I was with the same buddies. We've broken bread in here multiple times. Me and my family came here once as well during breakfast time. The place has plenty of parking space, and normally early mornings are very convenient. There was never a line and wait times are rarely none. The server here are nice, although, I expected a more hospitable and courteous servers. At times, it takes a while to place our orders, also the time of getting our food done varies. I really like that they are attentive in checking if we need coffee refills. I am a person that is so close to a coffee addict. And a server that makes sure I got a good flow of coffee in my blood is an amazing server. Normally, I like my coffee light, so I'd ask lotsa creamer coz that's how I like. And the server gets that. The breakfast menu selection is typical just like the other breakfast places. The style of cooking may differ, but they all taste breakfast. I normally order the meat eater scrambler, and always been great. I would come back for more since the location is great, very close to where I live. This is a great family restaurant. It's been around for years. They serve home-cooked food, no frills just basic staple meals that are delicious. The dessert selection is ample. They also have specials daily. The atmosphere reminds me of a restaurant I used to work in during my college days. The servers are friendly and attentive without being obnoxious. My favorites are the mac and cheese, fried chicken and the roast beef. The fries are amazing! Hot, fresh and crispy, but soft in the center. It was our first morning here in Fayetteville, N.C. We traveled all the way from Hawai'i. My daughter was excited to take us to this restaurant where the food was delicious and service was excellent she said. We walked in with my grandchildren, my daughter and son-in-law and my husband and I. The Hostess was very friendly and offered us a back table and the table in front of it. We accepted and proceeded to walk towards the area. Well, there was two waitresses on the side who showed their disapproval and clear case of Racial Discrimination! My daughter didn't hold back her disapproval nor her disappointment. You see, all three of them . My husband, son in law and daughter fought for this country. Fought for Freedom. Against discrimination! We have a family of soldiers and one who lost his life for our country. We left sad. And thanked the nice Hostess who kept apologizing. We prayed for the two waitresses. First let me say that I am a Rainbow regular. I have lunch here at least once or twice a week. Anything from a sandwich to salads and they have never disappointed me. They are the nicest and friendliest people everyone time I order my lunch. They even get to know you by name, and that really gives it a neighborhood feel. I live and work right down the street from here. With that said I have never had dinner at Rainbow until tonight. My wife was out of town, I am not cooking, and commercial restaurants was not appealing so I said why not. I got the Wednesday night special (Roast Beef, mash potatoes and gravy with green beans & cabbage). The food look appealing. It required some seasoning though. The beef was tender and the gravy was good. Everything needed seasoning though. The evening staff is just as friendly as the lunch staff. I will come back for dinner again and try a different special or even one of the other menu items. read more

My friend came into town and we wanted to find a breakfast joint that was similar to ours back home. I looked on Yelp and opted to try this out. We were seated fairly quick, but, the table that was given to us was sticky like someone smeared syrup all over it. Aside from the table, everything was smooth sailing. I ordered the veggie skillet with coffee while my friend ordered an omelette. The skillet was the best thing I've tried in a long time. The potatoes were cooked perfectly and the vegetables were cooked just right without being soggy. My friend stated she loved her omelette and it had came with a choice of potatoes or grits. The coffee was mediocre, but the restaurant isn't known for coffee, so I wasn't upset. Our waitress was so kind and wonderful. Everything is fairly priced as well.
