Christian, the owner, came to give me an estimate on removing some nasty carpet from a bathroom and replacing it with more appropriate bathroom flooring. I was trying to get this done quickly to better meet family medical needs, so I wasn't too fussy about what it looked like. I described what was needed and he used his experience to suggest what would work best for our situation and he sent me a few pictures of different flooring and edging to choose from. He bought materials the next morning, and had good communication on keeping me updated for his arrival time after the materials purchase. One thing I really appreciated is that he was able to plan the work around elderly family needs with the bathroom. Even though there were other bathrooms in the home, because it was the best bathroom for an elderly person to use at night, he kept it functional between the first and second days of work. Even though this wasn't necessarily the most "efficient" way of working he prioritized our needs. He also kept everything very tidy around the area where work was being done, and was able to keep the hallway outside of the bathroom accessible during the day while he was working. After the work was complete, Christian had me look it over, made sure everything was clean and every last bit of debris from the project was removed from the property, and later that evening sent me an invoice online. It was convenient to access and pay the invoice with a card via a secure payment platform. Christian was also very professional and respectful in all aspects of our communication and working in the house. I also appreciated that he's very clear and specific on what types of work he does and what he doesn't, and his connections to people who can help with other construction specialties. I would not hesitate to hire Apex for other jobs in the future!

It was a very different place then. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a rare form of eye cancer. During my week of radiation treatment I was blind and all I could do was lay on my back and reflect on my life. I thought about the things I've done, the things I wanted to, and all the marvelous blessings I have been given. I was at peace because I've had a rich and full life. During my recuperation, I discovered a tragedy unfolding. In a talk, Jackson County Medical Examiner, Dr. Jim Shames sounded an alarm about the dangers of prescription drugs. I decided to look into it. I discovered some horrifying facts. Last year, tens of thousands of teenagers died and hundreds of thousand became drug addicts (many of them turning to crime and/or prostitution to support their new habit). The deaths cross all economic and social stratus -- rich and poor, secular and non-secular. Why? The drug companies are pushing these drugs as cure-alls and some doctors freely write prescriptions. Most parents don't have a clue about the dangers of these drugs. The warnings have been lost in the news of political turmoil, the war on terror and our terrible economic times. You would think something this important would take top billing all the time. I knew I had to do something about this because according to the Centers for Disease Control, one in five teens use prescription drugs for non-medical purposes and many will either die or become addicted. I knew I could make a difference. Several years ago I produced a 1/2 hour documentary about a young heroin addict. For over a year, it was broadcast all over the state of Oregon. Several drug-treatment centers told me their intake calls for heroin addiction doubled the day after the broadcast. The state medical examiner reported two years later the number of heroin-related deaths declined by over 50%. The film worked. I just finished a documentary about the dangers of prescription drugs. The film will be broadcast on NBC-5 in December, 2012. It will be promoted on television, radio, Internet, and in print. In the Drug Wars, the real enemies are ignorance and apathy. If you know and do nothing, you are part of the problem. If we all do something we can save our children. The expenses for this endeavor are huge.
