I was treated so rudely when I came back with a pair of 40 year old Frye boots that they claimed they didn't work on!!!!! Well YES they FkYING did work on them and they ruined my boots to where I cannot get them to slip on! they then tried to charge me to fix my boots after they destroyed them! HORRIBLE! Went in to ask some questions about boots I had just got that were unfortunately hurting my feet and get some insoles for them. They are a unique pair of boots and Dan was insisting that the toe was collapsed even though that's the intended construction and they are brand new. when I explained that to him he got incredibly rude and passive aggressive. BEWARE!!! I have never been treated so poorly by a business in my life! A week ago I brought in a $200 pair of boots to be resoled. When I came to pick them up today, the "pair" they tried to hand me was mismatched, and different sizes. The owner Dan told me that I must have brought them in that way! As if I would have two pairs of almost identical shoes (the suede color is off), and that I wouldn't have known that my shoes were two different sizes! He refuses to reimburse me for my loss, and completely dismisses the possibility that they made a mistake. Since one shoe is way too small, I am left without a good pair of winter boots. Stay away from this place! The owner has zero customer satisfaction skills. I will be heading to small claims court if my missing boot is not found. read more

After 6 weeks I called them up and the person I spoke to took exception to my bringing up the fact it had taken so long (by the time they were done the season for wearing them was over). Clearly a family business, Dan's Shoe Repair is a cozy shop with leather accoutrements of great quality. If you are looking for a pair of boots for show or play these will be the kind that last. I lived in a pair of boots bought at Village Shoes in Ashland, and when the heels started to tear from the boot I went to Dan's. Great work and warranty on work performed. If you appreciate good quality shoes, and want to maintain them for years, then Dan is the guy you want. I have a pair of Allen Edmunds, several pair of Johnson and Murphy and a good pair of Italian Metzer's. With the help of Dan they all have anywhere from 5 to 20 years of use. I read some of the other comments concerning rudeness. Can Dan be a little "salty" sometimes, well wouldn't you occasionally if you smelled as much foot odor and shoe polish as he does?? I just picked up my leather jacket which had a torn pocket. This was not just repairing a seam, the leather actually had a big tear. Dan did a beautiful repair. When I looked at it, I had to look at the other pocket to see if I had the wrong one because it looked so perfect. And it is stronger now than it was so it is unlikely to happen again. Took my 15 yr old beloved Teva sandals with the soles falling off into Dan's shoe repair the week before Christmas. I needed them before we left town in 9 days. There was homemade peach cobbler and whipped cream being served in the shop. Forgot to pick up my shoes. He was going to hold them until our son could pick them up on a Saturday. Instead, he offered to ship them to our vacation address, we got them, and he refused payment for shipping. Great service, craftsmanship, and nice people. And someone there makes great peach cobbler. read more

Due to their VERY inconsistent hours this cobbler has had two pairs of shoes for three months. I have tried two times a week the first month to come when hours posted claimed they would be open but were closed. I live and work 46mins away. The last two months I would not only call ahead to ensure service but still come by two times each month given our busy work and travel schedule, I always tried to stop by when the business claimed to be open. I have NOT heard from anyone in this business nor have I gotten back my two pairs of expensive boots I brought in for heel repair for three months. Its January 2020 and that was last year. Still no shoes. Did not come here to write this but rather to try to call again and perhaps get an employee to respond? Also frustrated to not have my shoes returned or communicated to me that this business is no longer operational and have no intention it returning my products? Wow....I could not have had a more different experience than Samantha R. had. We must live in alternate universes. 5 stars are too few: 10 stars would be better. I brought some complicated and ill-fitting leather accordion straps in to be repaired and adjusted. Employee Dave helped me instantaneously, spent an hour with me, became really involved with figuring out my problems and concerns, and was creative, inventive, and cheerful. Actually, the whole store pretty much got into the project, including a few customers, (and the afternoon finished off with a brief impromptu concert.) It was one of those wonderful, only-in-(or, at least, especially-in-) Ashland moments. And to top it off, they charged me a ridiculously low amount for the work. I needed a further adjustment a few weeks later and was met the same pleasant scenario. I couldn't be happier! read more

I save up my shoes and bring them with me when I travel to Ashland from Los Angeles every year and he always makes my shoes and me happy with the results. I'm tempted to give them one star, but in all fairness, over the several decades I have been in Ashland, they have given me good service on several occasions. That said, I brought an expensive Italian leather belt in to have two extra holes punch in it. The first of the two holes was WAY off center rendering it useless and because that was the one that fit my waistline at the time, made the belt ineffective. When I brought the obvious to their attention when they gave it back to me, the guy just shrugged it off. I wrote it off as an anomaly and went back for more work. They stretched some boots and did a good job but Dan's attitude sucked. And yesterday I went in because I have a very simple problem with a seam on a pair of sneakers that I have at our home in a different city. I didn't have them with me but had another pair of the exact make and model, but in a different color. I explained the problem which is very simple and asked about several solutions. Dan would have nothing to do with the issue. He just kept saying "I can't do anything unless the shoes are here." I understand except all I'm trying to do is get a thin piece of material with a flexible glue to keep the seam from rolling over and I could show him on my shoes. He wouldn't even look at my exact shoes and said "We can't help you." And yes that's true--they will never get my business again because they are just not that helpful, nor competent. Again, I should probably only give them one star or no stars, but they have done a couple of things well for me, but less than half the times I have brought them things to repair. Less than half in the repair industry is a terrible average. read more
