I've been working with DREW for the past six months and have learned more in that time than I have…read morethe past 40 years. Part of that has to do with having the bandwidth to practice consistently - a little bit every day. More importantly, DREW's teaching style lines well with my learning style - he's extremely patient and communicates with precision and clarity; his instruction sheets (which I laminate and keep in a binder) are equally clear and helpful. I find all the lessons fit together in a way that continually reinforces the theory and techniques learned along the way.

Part of his focus was to push me to define my motivation, so he could focus on the things I really wanted to learn. He tailored the lesson to my beginning guitar level, but also encouraged me to discover things I didn't think I could accomplish. He doesn't give hollow praise or tell you you're awesome when you're not, which I appreciate, but he makes you feel secure and encouraged to try even if you make mistakes (Which is all part of the process!), and soon you're making progress faster than you originally thought you could! He clearly has lots of experience teaching guitar and is very knowledgable about music theory if you want to learn it. That said, he can put all theory and technical jargon aside if you want; he completely customizes your guitar lesson to your goals. The lessons never feel rushed and I can achieve higher levels of play without feeling stressed and I highly recommend him to be your guitar teacher!

The area that helped me the most was music theory and how to play with anyone. Now, I have the tools to analyze any song I play or write and interpret why it may work. I can improve a bass line or be creative with the line in clever ways that I would not have thought about before. It has made me so much more comfortable jamming with anyone. With his lessons, I can get away with playing along to any song. Gabe can sometimes be a bit serious, but his seriousness made me focus much more on any given topic. The pace of the course is up to you, but Gabe will push you forward to help you play things you thought were above your level. Overall, Gabe is incredibly knowledgeable and can teach anything from the simplest concepts or techniques to something more complicated and technical.

I have been taking music lessons from Raquel Sandler for several months by now and I cannot say…read moreenough good things about how much I've enjoyed and benefited from taking singing lessons from her. There are a number of things that make Raquel a great singing teacher, so let me discuss some of these. First of all, she is warm, friendly, and hilarious, and the hour passes by so quickly because of how much fun she makes the class. Through taking lessons with her, I've discovered a new passion for singing. I'm one of those people who would normally be a bit shy with my singing in the past, and I feel downright liberated from taking lessons with her. Also, she has a remarkable mastery and command of many different styles of singing, and she somehow is able to diagnose and spot the areas in which I need improvement and find exercises that specifically target my singing needs. I have been really blown away by her technical expertise. Finally, Raquel seems really dedicated to her students, and this comes across in the way that she is able to specifically tailor the way she teaches to meet the needs of individual students. I can't recommend Raquel enough, she seems like she would be fantastic with children, and my friend's daughter loves taking lessons with her too. Definitely an amazing voice teacher!

This review is specifically about an acoustic guitar setup in the service department…read more I paid $95 for the setup service. I am dissappointed in the results and would not recommend their repair or setup services. The final results show a lack of quality control. I love the vibe of McCabe's and the 'grab and play anything you want' attitude which is rare at guitar stores these days. The staff have always been welcoming and don't hover or bother you unless you have a question. I even saw what appeared to a homeless person come in and ask to use the bathroom and the staff was kind and treated the person with respect and care. I've been a long time visitor, and needed a setup done on an acoustic guitar so I thought I'd bring it in and give them some business. Because the store is about a 30-45 minute drive for me, I asked if they could do it while I waited around the neighborhood and they said they were backed up and likely wouldn't get to it that day. I said ok and left it there and they called me about 2 hours later to say it was done and ready to get picked up, so I completely could have just waited for it. I wasn't able to make it back to the store for a few days (because it's a long drive), and when I picked up the guitar I was in a hurry and didn't spend a lot of time checking it out in the store. I pulled it out for a quick few strums to make sure the high action near the body was fixed, and it was, so I packed up the guitar and brought it home. Lesson learned - spend time at the store/shop when you are picking up your guitar. Spend more time than you think you should, better to find any issues at the shop before you get home. When I got home and saw the guitar in better lighting, I noticed there were a bunch of areas where there was some wax or polish that was obviously not buffed out. So the first thing I did was to spend about 5 minutes going over the whole guitar with a soft cloth to try and buff out all of the polish. Not a big deal, but obviously nobody at the store did any final check of the guitar, or if they did they would have seen this and just didn't care to do anything about it - just felt like poor quality control and lack of care. (Also - this is a matte finish guitar, so I'm not sure you're supposed to put polish on it at all..?) Then once I finished buffing out all of the leftover wax/polish, I tuned it and up and immediately discovered that both the A and the G string were buzzing while being played open. So I ended up spending another 10-15 minutes doing a truss rod adjustment to get the guitar into playable condition. Another indication that nobody bothered to check or play the guitar after the tech put it back together, or they would have clearly heard the buzzing strings. Or they just didn't care enough to fix it. For $95 I would expect the guitar to be able to come out of the case and look and play well without me having to do any additional work. I'm sad to have had this experience with a store a I have really grown to appreciate and enjoy.
