I discovered L.A. Piano Tuning a couple of years ago. I have a decades old grand piano that needed tuning after a move. Turns out that she needed much more. The care with which David tended my piano during the first couple of visits was actually very moving. Over two visits, he cleaned and tuned her completely, and repaired a lazy key or two. She has spent most of her years near enough the ocean that, like a car, a piano takes hits from all that that brings. She now sits perfectly tuned, humidified, and blanketed. She remains sound, and needs very little tweaking, but gets it on a regular basis. I am grateful for the time David always takes. I am saddened to report that this company was recommended by a member of a spiritual organization that I am now the group leader of. He tuned the piano at my lodge and I had him come to my home to tune my personal piano. My personal piano is a 40 year old beautiful black upright had not been tuned in 16 years when my kids were children and taking piano lessons. The piano had not been played since but I tinkled with it and it worked fine just needed minor tuning. This gentleman tuned my piano in November of 2023. I am now retired now and just began lessons but to my discovery and disappointment when I finally play the piano I noticed the foot peddle was making noice. I opened the top to inspect it and found that a bracket was missing causing the peddle to hit the wood which was the cause of the noise. So the piano was working fine before the tuning if not this gentleman would have said so and would have provided a repair quote. He did not, he advised me that completed the tuning and everything was fine. I am not one to make false accusations however I hold a Master Degree and I am also A Master leader in one of the largest most prestigious organizations worldwide. I am very disappointed and saddened to say that my piano is now missing a bracket that was there before he tuned my piano and no one has touched the piano after his tuning. I am stating again that if the piano needed a bracket he would quickly have determined that while he was tuning the piano , clearly he would have stated so and naturally would have provided a price quote for repair. Neither was done. My piano now needs repair work for a peddle bracket after this gentleman completed the tuning. read more

I was so excited to find, purchase, and secure moving for my new vintage piano. Then, in a triumphant non-climax, it just sat in my living room - gorgeous, but unplayable - being muddy and painfully, painfully out of tune. I began what became a daunting day of trying to find a suitable technician to tune and adjust my vintage lady-beast. She's a restored 70s Helpinstill "portable" electric grand. Electric pickups - but real strings, real hammers, real soundboard...real weird. A lot of tuners I called seemed confused by these products ("No - it's electric, not electronic - of course I'm not calling you to have an electronic piano tuned!"). Very frustrated, I finally found David in a recommendation and gave him a call. I knew I was in good hands when David mentioned having worked on Yamaha CP's and Wurlies before. He even knew that Kawaii had a brief go at making stage pianos in yesteryear. Phew, relief! For instruments that were originally meant to be road-worthy and solid, many of these gems have aged into persnickety pianos that require skillful care. Because of his knowledge and experience, I felt at ease with David adjusting the piano as soon as I hung up the phone with him. David was able to schedule an appointment within a couple days. He is a total pro: on time, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I have no idea how long my piano was out of service before I bought it, but it was not in the best playing condition. There were some mechanical issues (stuck keys, etc.) that needed addressing and he was up front about the additional labor cost and fixed them quickly and well. There were a few other unexpected things that needed attention - rust removal on the strings, an adjustment to raise the whole overall tuning to A440 - and David explained the necessity and the cost on the spot. I didn't feel like I was being needlessly upsold for the sake of raising the bill. David is very honest and thorough, and his suggestions were things that were overlooked in the initial restoration and needed to be performed to complete the mechanical restoration. I'm thankful I had David to notice these oversights and bring the piano into great playing shape. The final bill was shockingly reasonable, especially for the time and attention he spent on the instrument. Moreover, it's always nice to find someone who's delighted to get to service a vintage item, rather than being inconvenienced by its unusual nature. David has a great attitude in this department, and I look forward to having him keep my new baby in service! read more

About a year ago I acquired a very out of tune harpsichord (Sounded horrible). I found the perfect spot for it and after a few months tried to get it tuned. Sound simple? Nope. I called a lot of tuners before I got David. He gave me a date, sent reminders and came right on time. It took a few hours but he transformed my harpsichord back into the charming instrument it should be. He worked miracles with the action as well.
