My god-mother's friend suggested King Ahiram. The place is just a take-out place with an adjoining room with tables and chairs where you can have a "sit-down" meal. So we ended up ordering a selection of items. I don't know. I am used to going to Little Arabia for my middle eastern food here in southern California and my favorite place in Brisbane is Nono's and omg.... the food here was kinda on the dismal side. I felt really bad that my parents and god-parents had to sit through a different cuisine which I've been touting as so fabulously delicious only to be faced with really sub-par Mediterranean food. We had falafels, hummus, babaghanoush, kebabs, these crescent pastry things which looked like empanadas -- everything was mediocre at best. The meat was dry, the dips needed more olive oil.... falafels were hard as rocks. Tabouleh was flavorless. I never heard the end of it after the meal, even from my son who is an avid fan of this cuisine. We are definitely going back to Nono's next time.

It's only when you really take notice that you see King Ahiram's name on there. So yeah, until I paid closer attention when I decided to review it, this place was always known to me and everyone I know as 'the Lebanese place'. I guess the point I'm making is that at a place like this the name is unimportant. The food is tasty, cheap, and a bit on the greasy side so it ticks all the boxes for hungry youths. I wouldn't go here expecting a gourmet meal, but for the prices and the convenience it's worth munching on a felafel kebab or cabbage roll. 'The Lebanese place' might not be fit for a King despite its namesake, but it's definitely fit for a starving student.

So, being curious, we decided to stop in, at our own peril, to happily discover the previous owners have returned, turfed out those they sold to, and have really made the place look more Lebanese fast-food fashionable. There's a massive menu board with a broader array of kebabs, meat options and salads, and more much-needed interior seating. However, there's been a big change to the pricing too with a Shish Kebab previously $9.50, now $16, and lacking tabouli...which used to be on every kebab and made a disappointing difference to the Lamb & Beef Shawarma Rolls (aka Doner Kebabs) we ordered today. They lacked flavour that the tabouli added and with just diced lamb and beef, lettuce, tomato, hummus, onion and a squirt of tahini wrapped in a toasted pita bread it just wasn't the same. And this from the original owners and their kebab recipes! Can adding tabouli really be that unprofitable? We're happy that No No's has returned to it's "almost" former self and there were plenty of customers enjoying the Lebanese food. And while the place looks great inside and out, it just wasn't the same that we had come to know and love before the carnage of the sale and buyback. Please consider a return of tabouli.

To our disappointment the new owner I believe is the ruin of NONOS, it is just not the same anymore. There were so many negatives about this place, for a start the hummus was very dry and missing the lemon ingredient, there was no tabouli because he did not make any, the bean salad was not fresh. The sweets cabinet was nearly empty and the cabinet kept with the vine leaves and kibbie were not on display but were all covered in thick plastic bags. If the new owner continues down this road, he will have killed off all the "good will" the previous owners built up. They always worked so hard at their business and they made everything from scratch. NONOS is gone and will never return, I will miss the great food and warm wonderful service and I will always have great memories
