I've recently picked up a new punch needling hobby which means I've been coming to this Jo-Ann's more regularly for supplies because it is significantly closer to my house than the Ypsi location. So I'm giving it a star boost because I'm grateful that it's there for the small things I need and I don't want them to ever, ever leave. Haha! That said, it's still a smaller store so the stock is more limited. But they do have a really good selection of embroidery floss and yarn, which is primarily what I'm looking for with this new hobby. They also have a ton of monkscloth in stock (the fabric you use for your projects) as well as transfer paper and the like. So, so far so good! And the staff here is really friendly and helpful. More than once I've rushed in right before close and they're still cheerful and ready to assist. The bad news is that they don't seem to restock so quickly. A few weeks ago I cleaned them out of the 5 weight antique blue rounds of embroidery floss and when I went back to buy more they were still out and I had to order more online for pick up at the other store. I needed to buy some silk flowers and I've always found that this store has a good selection. I went on their first day of business after the quarantine and I was impressed with their cleanliness. There is a table with hand sanitizer just to the right of the door as you enter. It's very easy to miss (I saw it on my way out!). The check out and cutting table both had plexiglass, employees were wearing masks, and they cleaned the checkout counter in between each customer. read more

Lots of kid's craft supplies, which is what I was looking for. We got pipe cleaners (I refuse to say "chenille straws"), pompoms, and pearlescent heart-shaped beads. The yarn selection is pretty basic, mass-market stuff --- this definitely isn't a knitter's specialty shop. I didn't spend enough time in the fabric section to have an opinion there. Employees were fairly helpful when I had a question, and there were a few of them running around. I'm not usually a Jo-Ann fan, but this was better than most of the locations I've visited. read more

It's a small store, but it had what I needed. I needed an opinion for a project that I'm doing, so I approached an older lady at the cutting counter.. I wish I got her name because she was so RUDE. She treated me like I was dumb and acted like I was wasting her time. I was so baffled... I walked away from her and approached a younger staff who was AMAZING and helped me put together my project, which is why I gave the store 3 stars. read more

This location is smaller and the inventory less extensive than the "superstore" on Carpenter, so I keep that in mind when I head out the door. (I have also reviewed the Carpenter location.) Even though this location has a little less of each class of item, the selection of zippers, Wright's bindings and threads seems to be the same as at the Carpenter location. NO PUBLIC BATHROOM. While at the Oak Valley Drive location today, I noticed that this place has an entire wall of fleece. Fifty feet or more of wall space, floor to ceiling. All polyester fleece. I use fleece to make "neck gaiters," which is a type of circular scarf that stays up over your nose. I wear them when I ski. You can only use so many scarves. I think most of the fleece goes to make no-sew throws for the couch. What I like the most about this location (besides having shorter lines) is that they'll let you use more than one coupon at a time. The coupons have to be different. For example, they must have different start and end dates. They must be for different items. Some coupons are for 40% or 50% off ANY ITEM, while others are only for fabric, some only for beading items, etc. So read carefully, and see if you can use more than one at a time. The really nice coupons are those that give you 10% or even 20% off your entire order, EVEN IF SOME ITEMS ARE ALREADY ON SALE. read more

This is not the Joann's you're looking for. This one sucks. Seriously. The selection is crappy and outdated and it seems for every type of project or craft they are always missing something you really need. And that's no good because then you get sent to the store on Carpenter Road and realize you should have known better and just headed there in the first place. And then your Catholic Guilt spirals out of control in a whirlwind of self doubt and self hatred. So you go home and rather than work on any sort of crafting you have a drink and sit in the dark wishing you weren't so damn stupid. Why would you go to a place that makes you feel like this? Seriously, though... I'd skip it. Target has a fresher craft section tht has awesome smashing stuff now that that's the rage. Also, the staff here is a little out of it, slow, and rude. read more

If you've been to a Jo-Ann before, you know what to expect. Ok selection of fabrics, decent sales, and often some pretty useful coupons. I like to sew, so I've been here several times, but I definitely prefer the Jo-Ann on Carpenter unless I'm just picking up a pattern or thread. The selection of fabrics at the Carpenter Jo-Ann is much better, as the store there is much larger. I really only come here for sewing supplies, but there's also cake decorating supplies, seasonal decorations, etc. The employees have all been nice enough. I've never needed to ask a question here, so I don't know how useful they are as sources of information. Pricewise... Patterns go on sale routinely, so I never care to pay more than a buck or two for a pattern. Just watch the ads if you're looking for a particular brand. Fabrics run from fairly cheap, especially when on sale, to quite expensive, yet none of it is super high quality. Overall, this Jo-Ann is fine if you just need to stop in and get something small, or if you're a beginner sewer and aren't extremely picky about your fabrics. read more

Jo-anns is my favorite craft store and I get most of my meterials from their. They have awesome coupons all the time and all the workers are very kind. Sometimes they don't have the materials that are listed on their website but that's not to bad. I would really recommend going to Jo-anns the next time you need something craft related. read more

This is a nice little fabric and art supply store. I go here to buy zippers, needles, and batting for my quilts. Apparently, a lot of people don't realize that the fabric at Jo-Ann's chain stores is fairly low-end. Trust me, it is! Actually, you don't have to take my word for it, go to one of the quilting shops in the area (I've reviewed several) and pet their fabrics. You'll feel the difference. And if you start sewing with the good stuff, you'll notice a difference there, too! Stitches hold better, dyes don't run, and everything feels better. Sometimes Joann's does have some very cute prints and I do buy fabric from them occasionally, but I relegate their fabric to things like napkins and pillowcases; I don't trust them in my quilts! The best thing about Jo-Ann's is the sales. Sign up for their mailing and emailing lists and you will regularly get a coupon for 40 or 50% off of one item. This is wonderful when you need to replace your $45 cutting mat or buy batting! Also, they carry a lot of great dress patterns. Again, wait for the sales on these; if you are patient, you can get most patterns for $2. I keep a running list of patterns I want in my planner and then just pick them up when they are on sale. This Jo-Ann's is smaller than the one on Carpenter, but unlike the one on Carpenter, it doesn't have a warehouse feel, you can get your fabric cut fairly quickly, and it hasn't been completely taken over with thousands of bolts of fleece (seriously, what's with the fleece?) read more

Joann Fabrics is fine. It's perfectly fine. You can get good deals on fabrics (especially if you sign up to receive their coupons) but like the previous reviewer said, the fabric is at the lower-end. I guess that's why it's affordable compared to other fabric shops. For a beginner sewer (which I am) I think it's okay to work to come here for fabric but the customer service is iffy. Sometimes they're super helpful in answering questions and other times, they're just too busy to help or maybe they don't even really care to help. Not really sure which. Only 3 employees working (as I was told by 2 of them). One named Carolyn was incredibly rude! She treated, not just me, but the surrounding customers as well, with hostile looks and rude comments. While I was in the front paying for something my husband heard her saying very nasty things about me to other customers. I'm a 51 year old business owner here in Ann Arbor. She told them that I didn't know what I wanted and to ignore me while rolling her eyes. read more

I love the products at Joann's as I can typically find everything I need, I.e. I am not a big crafter but I do like to sew on occasion. My only beef is every time I visit I end up waiting in line, always. I tend to be a bit of an impatient person but I put on my big lady pants when I go to Joann's because I know what to expect, a wait. This one thing aside, I like the store. This location has been out of the numbers you pull from the machine at the cutting counters for months. This creates long lines and the customer loses the ability to at least continue shopping and come back if they've pulled a number instead of waiting in a super long line. My husband is having radiation treatments at U of M, and we are staying at a local hotel. While en route to another business, we stopped at Joann's. My husband needed to use the restroom, and when he went through the swinging doors that led to the restroom, one of the staff rudely approached me (I was standing outside the doors), and said, "He can't go in there!" I was confused. "Is that the restroom?" I asked. "Yes", she responded, but we can't have just anyone wandering around in there, he has to be escorted". The staff member's name was Deb (manager). We left the store immediately. This hurt me so badly to see her treat him like that. My husband is one of the kindest, gentlest people you could ever meet. This was our first and, and it will be our last visit to this store. read more

I have had 3 negative experiences at Joann's (Oak Valley, Ann Arbor) and have brought it to the attention of corporate 3 times. The first instance (in 2019) involved saleswomen who have treated me, as a person of color, with disrespect and talking to me like I'm stupid. I contacted corporate, was then contacted by the manager and she resolved to make things right. The second incident was in November a week before Black Friday and involved the manager. When I brought it to the attention of management, an assistant manager apologized via email and said she would bring it to the manager's attention. I told her no point as it was the manager who had been rude to me. The third time occurred on 1/25/20. I went back to this Joann's location to purchase an item on sale (poly-fil), which was sold out. I went to the cutting counter where I found an employee, Leon, who claimed he was the manager. He was on his cellphone and using a computer. After saying excuse me to get his attention and telling him a sale item was sold out, I asked if I could receive a rain check or if I could be comp'd with a similar item. Answer: NO. The item was on sale for $5.99. I clarified with Leon, whose name I requested, that he would not give me a rain check or comp me a similar item, and he confirmed. In fact, he suggested I could go to the store on Carpenter Road, which would have added another hour to my outing as it is in the WRONG direction from the way I live. I was outraged, to say the least, that the "manager" was unwilling to make things right for $5.99, as if it was coming out of Leon's pocket. I went out to my car, called corporate and provided a detailed narrative of what I had been subjected to from Leon. Four days later, I have received NO follow up from corporate and thus, I have no intention of going to the Joann's in the Oak Valley again. In fact, I will drive to the other side of town to shop at Michael's, drive an hour to the closest Hobby Lobby, shop at Walmart and/or shop at Meijer for craft supplies/fabric. I refuse to subject myself to the "management" at this Joann's who have set what I see as an unreasonable tone for how the store is run. read more

The Carpenter Road store is the better option by far. Not only is the selection lacking here, but the employees are not knowledgeable about sewing! I have overheard many questions asked by other folks that I could easily answer, but that left the employee stumped. Not that it troubled the employee at all. Some days you'd think the store were staffed with robots. The cutting counter people at Carpenter Road always ask what I'm going to make and I've been given more than a few great pieces of advice. read more

I recently had a curbside pick up (2nd I've done). The salesperson who brought my packages out to me was extremely rude and curt both times. She was harsh and on the defensive for every question I asked. She never once said thank you for your order or come again. I am sure she doesn't know how to smile. This person does not represent the regular staff of this store (my store for over 10 years). She blamed everything on corporate. I am sure Corporate would not like her attitude or work ethic. I should not have been treated this way. If she is working in this store when it opens to customers, I will go to the other store in Ann Arbor. She should be damn fortunate that she is collecting a pay check as I am sure her coworkers are not. My recommendation: to put it nicely; replace her! I thought there was something wrong when I was waiting behind one of the four registers set up in a square because all four of the cashiers were flashing me dirty looks. A cashier mentioned I where I was supposed to line up. I told my friend about the dirty looks and another customer mentioned they are not known for their customer service. So not only do I know where to line up but I also know why they have that reputation. The cashier seemed like she was trying not to be completely snotty when I had my turn. read more

Just about every time I go into the Warner Robins ,Ga. location the employees are horrible. They don't greet you like most places. Micheal's and Hobby Lobby always greet or acknowledge thier customers even when they are busy. Jo Ann's is never busy. The manager carries on a conversation with employeess rather than trying to help customers. He acts as if you are not even there. The employees don't want to assist you. When you ask for help they look at you crazy. I don't think any of them want a job. They act as if they don't want you there. I go to Micheal's now because this has been an on going thing. The stores customers service doesn't improve because the manager (the head) has no customers service.Just awful!!!!!!! read more

I called to see if they could look up a certain item since I live a distance away. The lady on the phone was very rude and wouldn't take the information since their inventory wouldn't be correct since they just got a truck in. The item I was looking for was a discontinued item that I was calling all around for. This was for a very special project. I give a lot of business to all different JoAnn Fabrics stores and definitely will not be giving this one any of my business! read more

I've experienced such horrible service on such a consistent basis that I've contacted corporate and spoken with a representative multiple times. You're never greeted, there's no "thank you for shopping here," I once made the mistake of asking if their store carried Cricut vinyl (I'd seen it at other JoAnns) and the older lady I asked practically spat "no, they don't even make vinyl" (which they did/do). I live walking distance from this store and I will drive across the city to Michael's to avoid this store. read more

Came in 20 minutes before they closed and they were unbelievably helpful. Had to get stuff for my kids project he forget to tell me about. This storm is always so much more helpful then the store in Ypsi. Love this place! read more
