I've had three pictures done by This shop. The owner (McCabe) does great work versus the mass market frame jobs I've had done with a coupon from the newspaper. McCabe has the artistic eye and experience to guide you to the most suitable frame. I often set off on one idea but his eye is always better than mine. Over the years, I have accumulated over 50 pieces of artwork and pictures at my house and this shop has done the last three. I'm glad I found them and I'll never go to another place again!

I took in a painting (on wood) for framing and McCabe did an outstanding job. Because the painting was on wood, he had to consider weight and depth. The finished product is beautiful. He also completed the project quickly. A pleasure to work with. read more

My company, Meridian Film, has worked w/ McCabe (owner) for two decades. Our partnership began w/ his first job for us when he not only did a beautiful job framing but actually hung our photo exhibit. With another show, Teenage Migrant Farmworkers, he recommended we use beautiful, light maple wood frames. If you are looking for a great place to get a special picture or poster framed, this is the spot to go. They have a huge selection of frames and mats, and the owner is very helpful with picking out the perfect combination. I have had several pieces framed here from large posters to small original pieces of art. All the work is done meticulously, and the quality is fantastic. They also have a cool selection of sports and art posters to pick from. I also feel like the prices are very reasonable, so all in all, this place is really awesome. read more

I've had multiple personal and professional framing jobs done and they have all been superb. They've ranged from diplomas to photographs to oversized prints and original animation cels. We brought in a piece of artwork that is very special to us. McCabe helped walk us through the process of selecting the perfect frame and type of glass that complimented the artwork perfectly. It is a large print and we choose museum glass and a beautiful wood frame. It is now hanging in the most prominent part of our home. Don't dream of using any other frame shop in greater Ann Arbor. I've used Graphic Art Wholesalers (also known as The Art Spot) for years and have had them frame everything from original artwork to vintage photographs to fine needlework. The owner, McCabe, is an artist himself and it really shows: he has a great eye for color, textures, matte dimensions, you name it. And his prices are as good as they come. I've used frame shops in my other home cities -- Boston and London in particular -- and never have I encountered such fine work. read more

I just picked up the fourth picture framed by McCabe at Graphic Art on Main Street. His work is of the very highest caliber, careful, thorough and absolutely beautiful. He makes suggestions that enhance the finished project, and when he has a sense of what you are looking for immediately finds frames that look fabulous and make the decision difficult! If you left it up to him, you would be very happy with the outcome. I recommend him without reservation and hope to avail myself of his talents for many years to come! read more

I recently picked up ceramics and learned about Rovin when I was looking for a place to buy…read moreunderglazes for my pieces. They're affiliated with Motawi Tile which I LOVE, so I was excited to check them out. The place I take classes doesn't allow outside clay but they do source the clay we use from Rovin. I've been using their "You Betcha" mix (mid-range) and really love it. It's got a bit of grog in it which means you're not going to get a super smooth surface but it helps give the clay a bit more structure. Since I'm still learning I like that this one has a bit more heft to it and holds its shape a little better for sculpting and fixing mistakes! But what I was most excited about were the glazes and underglazes! They have so many! And each one has a fired example piece which was so nice since what you see if often not what you get with these. Mostly I've seen things online but it's hard to really get a sense since photos and screens can sometimes misrepresent as well. In the end I got an Amaco underglaze watercolor set of a few colors and a few 2oz bottles of some of my go-to colors. They also sell the underglazes by the pint but since I'm still learning and will be at most a hobbiest, a little goes a long way and I found the 2oz perfect to start with. I'm also excited to come back to get some more of those as well as some glazes since they carry many stunning options. But I decided to pace myself this time! They have some tools here available as well, and for really reasonable prices. I also bought a few drape molds and a stylus tool for fine detail work. I also came in about 15 minutes before close and the staff was still super nice and helpful and didn't make me feel rushed at all. Can't wait to pop in again soon!

We went in for clay and left with a bag full of goodies and a head full of ideas. They were so helpful here and got us everything we needed. The amount of different clays is mindboggling but the staff asked us lots of great questions and found the perfect items for us. Everything you could every need for throwing pots, modeling, firing, and just good fun is here. They also fire for a fee. They sell both electric and kick wheels, all kinds of tools, and plenty of glazes.

I came in with a very scattershot idea of what I wanted for my wedding invitations and Michelle very patiently listened to my thoughts and expertly guided me through choosing paper and figuring out what I wanted more exactly design-wise. (Keep in mind that you can also come in with a print-ready design and they'll print it up for you! I highly, highly recommend their design work though--SO beautiful.) Throughout the design and printing process Michelle kept me updated on every development through email and responded quickly with any questions I had. At one point I thought I might have to make a last minute change, but then realized I didn't, and she very gamely accomodated my waffling, even offering to rush order a new plate for super-cheap if I needed it. The entire process from first meeting to getting the invites in my hands took about 5 weeks, so make sure you give yourself ample time if you're interested in their services. Also--it ain't cheap, but it is so, so worth it. Each invitation is truly a work of art and people have been going nuts over how amazing they look. I cannot recommend Elevated Press highly enough! Such a wonderful resource to have in Ann Arbor.

I had tried to do my taxes myself and had completed everything except one serious problem with inputting and coding one of my 1099-R as a refund of Basis I prepaid on an annuity product that I cancelled and the Basis was refunded to me, not to be counted as income. The program I was using included the amount refunded as Income instead of refund of Basis adding to my gross income. Struggling with the program, I could not get this resolved and could not finish my taxes. I called Wolverine and John Eaton answered my call. I explained the above to John. John actually listens. John came up with solutions. He said I did not need Wolverine for a simple return because of the cost. John proposed that he recommend a tax preparer to do my return and file it. John made 3 phone calls on my behalf and consulted with his staff members to find a person out of office qualified to do my returns. John called me back to keep me informed of his progress. John consulted with me about my tax problem on his time and with no compensation. John Eaton is extraordinary, capable, smart, kind and generous. Wolverine CPA Company is exceptional in the field and I very highly recommend Wolverine CPA. No other company made any effort to talk to me and guide me. John Eaton is a pleasure to work with and I am grateful.

I have completed two projects with them and currently working on a third. The first project was a significant residential renovation in downtown Ann Arbor. We were moved out of our home for nine months to complete this project. They took our 1920's Craftsman and turned it in to a fully functional home that still maintained all it's original charm. In this project we did a full kitchen remodel, two bathrooms, addition, added basement space and restored existing foundation. This process had a lot of potential issues that they helped to smooth out and make enjoyable. We know have a beautiful home that works perfectly for our family and I largely credit them with making it happen. The second and current projects are for my business in downtown Ann Arbor. They are amazing with re-imaging small or limited spaces. When I decided to take over more space from my existing building I didn't even want to come up with my own ideas till I could see what Theresa would envision. She has also been a very strong advocate for me in dealing with my landlord and the city on permitting and other concerns. She makes my life much easier, My decision to take on the current project was dependant on the Angelinis being on board. They also do great finsh design and selection. They have selected paint colors, flooring, cabinetry, plumbing fixtures and just about any other detail you may not even know you need. They provide a detail oriented approach from start to end. If you are thinking of taking on a construction or renovation project of any size, do your self a favor and speak with them. Obviously, I can not say enough positive things about them.

I…read morewanted my home to look nice without breaking the bank, and no matter what I bought or did it never looked right. At the same time, I didn't want to do whatever someone else told me to do. Cindy is AMAZING! She gets a feel for who you are and what your tastes are in a very short time. She's also very strategic about her work. She helps you plan from the broad to the specific, and works with the flow of the whole house as well as individual rooms. She is BRILLIANT at color and lighting, and does all of the legwork to find other materials that complement the project. She came back with a range of recommendations that all reflect what we discussed. (At the time I was redoing all of the rooms in a small home on the West side). Everything was completely affordable and in almost every instance I went with her suggestions. Shortly after doing all the work I put the house on the market and got RAVE reviews on everything. When I moved into my new home, we needed to paint and do a few other upgrades. Again, Cindy came to the rescue and ten years later, I'm still getting complements on the paint colors and other advice she gave me. She's now helping with a kitchen facelift, and I'm so grateful to have her guidance. I've learned a great deal about how to pick things and make them work together in the time I've spent with her. For big projects she'll always be the first person I call. Not that we agree on every detail, but she always gives me the "best practice" so that I have a foundation for making my choices. Cindy is COMPLETELY affordable and worth every penny.

Graphic Art Wholesalers in downtown is one of Ann Arbor''s best kept secrets. They seem like a hole in the wall next to the Parthenon Restaurant at Main and Liberty, but they house the best value in matting and framing that Ann Arbor has to offer. I am an artist, and I have been using them for the 22+ years that I've lived in Ann Arbor (after being burned with over-charges and poor quality by several of the chains in the area.) Graphic Art Wholesalers is a place where you can buy a framed print commemorating the Ann Arbor Art Fair or Michigan Stadium, but it's also the best place in the area to get your art work or certificates/diplomas matted and framed by highly experienced workers. Their owner /manager is extremely knowledgeable about archival matting (can't remember his name, but he's been there for years), and he can answer questions about the various materials and framing stock available. They have a huge selection of frames. They are a very good value for both art students and collectors! read more

The owner has a great eye and is always willing to help select the right frame and matting that will fit the artwork and enhance it.
