I've said it before and I'll say it again--I have no craft. I've dabbled in cross stitch with the commitment level of say...Zsa Zsa Gabor. Which is to say, 9 times and mostly unsuccessfully. I also tried crocheting one year as a New Year's resolution. "It's the year of the crochet!" I'd shouted somewhat drunkenly one New Year's eve at 10 past midnight. Unfortunately, when I strolled into the yarn shop to purchase the yarn with which I might later make good on this resolution, I was feeling a bit down in the dumps (ie: hungover) and purchased ream after ream of black yarn. So much black yarn in so many textures, it boggles the mind. And, now? The thought of crocheting bums me out a little. You try staring at 3 large bags full of black yarn and keep a cheery disposition. It's impossible. But, hey...anyone needs a funeral shroud and I'm your go-to gal. My point? Crafting and I have a bit of a complicated relationship. And, I thought you should know that prior to reading any review I might write on a craft store. That said, Jo-Ann brings it craftily and cheerfully (the black yarn is well mixed with many other colors and varieties). Came here in search of something in which to hang a small quilt on a wall. While they don't have a product specifically for that, the (very friendly and lovely in every way) worker offered some handy advice. Simply sew some loops on the quilt, mount a curtain rod on the wall, and hang it. Unfortunately, I'd be hard pressed to sew a button on a blouse, so I don't think loop sewing is in the cards--but I appreciated her can-do spirit. Beyond that, they have everything you might need for anything you might need to make. Things that blow my mind: +The sheer volume and variety of glue. If you can't make something stick from the myriad of glue varieties that Jo-Ann's carries, you're simply not trying hard enough. +Sharpies. Oh the many and varied sharpies. So many colors. I simply had no idea that Sharpies came in every color of the rainbow. Truly. You could get seriously colorful with any project that requires a Sharpie. +Decorations! Go around the holidays (really any holiday) and Jo-Ann delivers cute and crafty decorations (that require nothing more than for you to purchase and display--no craftiness required). And, their prices are reasonable to boot! +Their fabric selection! I always take the time to wander through their fabric section and dream of the many things I might make if I had any sewing skill at all. Oh the dresses, I'd make! So much cuteness! Supplies for any craft, awesome decorations for any holiday, and earnestly helpful service. Get to it! read more

If you're using this Joann Fabrics Greenfiled location for the store closing sale, I highly recommend to double check your receipt and watch out the cashier, Barb!!!! She had no idea how to use a checkout machine ( I had some fabrics cut off and she input wrong information even though she had my yellow bill, so I almost had to pay $20 more). Even when I asked her again after checking the receipt, she still didn't understand how to fix it so I ended up having to call someone else. I almost lost my money and wasted my time because of them, but until then I never heard an apology from those two people.When everything was done I complained about it the person (not a Barb) and she (with glasses in dark hair) suddenly yelled at me 'I'm apologizing now!' It's really hilarious that even though the store is permenantly closing, the employees are still not trained and don't even think about apologizing when they make a mistake. I'm a 2 fashion schools graduate and the Joann Fabrics has been one of my happy places. When I heard the news they're closing I was so so sad, but I really feel sorry that my relationship with the Joann ended so badly. And now I want to say they desesrved it ! read more

Joann fabrics and crafts is a very dangerous store to go to because you basically just want to buy everything that's there. I just want to hand them my whole paycheck And walk out with a bunch of awesome arts and crafts supplies. I am especially susceptible to their yarn that's available for knitting and crocheting and all of the painting supplies. One thing that sets the store apart from other craft stores is that they have an excellent selection of fabric and ribbon so if that something you're into this is the place for you! read more

I've frequented this store often, to purchase material for my projects, but this will no longer be the store that I spend my money. I phoned the store to inquire about an issues that I was having with my sewing machine, in effort to receive some advice from a professional. On my first attempt to speak with someone, the person who answered the phone immediately stated that this was not something that Joann Fabric could help me with, but that I would need to talk with someone at the "kiosk". I asked that she backtrack and explain what the "kiosk" was, and that it would make more sense for her to explain the reason for spewing out a number, without explanation, and she told me that the store was busy (at 10am), and that she had to get off the phone. She then hung up on me. This is an abbreviated account of the dialogue exchanged, to not lose your attention. I then phoned the number she provided, which turned out to be the Viking sales rep in the store. She felt the need to chastise me for calling Joann Fabric about repairing an issue with a sewing machine that was not purchased at Joann Fabric. Sidebar, she right away told me that she couldn't help Me unless it was a Viking machine, and didn't know why I would have been given her number. Back to the topic, after being chastised I laughed at the idea that she was assuming that I wanted my machine repaired. I told her that I never asked to have my machine repaired, but that I wanted to ask a professional about an issue I was having with my Singer sewing machine. I explained that I thought that Joann Fabric helped people with sewing issues, and that maybe someone could walk me through to help with my problem. She laughed, and stated that I couldn't call Joann Fabric to repair a machine that I purchased at Walmart. When I had enough, I hung up the phone. I never asked to have my machine repaired. I never said that I purchased the machine from Joann Fabric. I just knew Joann Fabric to have "professionals" that were helpful while shopping in store. I no longer believe this about Joann Fabric, and especially not he store located in Greenfield, WI. I have an ongoing project that will require material and accessories, but I will travel out of my way before stepping foot back in this store. I would hate to think that I was treated this way due to my race, but it was quite the coincidence that both of these women spoke to me in a condescending manner as if I was nothing! It's only a matter of time before this store's sell's decline, with this type of associate behavior, whether it be Joann or Viking. I'm no longer impressed and my dollars will be spent elsewhere. So to the Viking representative that asked what I was going to file, and to who I was going to file something, the answer is: This Review. The room we were in for a beginner level sewing class was so filthy I could hardly believe it. There was old food on the floor next to me and under the table where I worked. Flies were buzzing around. Nothing was prepared. We apparently were supposed to have Instruction Sheets. The instructor spent approximately 45 minutes trying to track down the Instructions. When we finally got them, they were instructions for the TRAINER. There were no introductions, no order to the class, no knowledge of the different types of machines. No attempt to keep the class (only 3 people) in sync. NO TEACHING! honestly been laughing about this. It WAS laughable. How can this company expect folks to pay $30 for an experience like this? My memories will start with be stunned at how dirty it was-flies swarming about my face. When I asked the instructor if anyone cleaned, she replied 'Not in the classroom.' The instructor was friendly-she brought chocolates (which nobody touched). I feel bad writing this about her but she was completely checked out. One woman had trouble with her machine and she spent an inordinate amount of time with her. The second woman-with no sewing experience, finished about 1/2 early and left. The instructor probably spent the least amount of time with me. I could barely get her attention for very simple questions. She clearly didn't want to be there and lamented a downsizing in her position; we were an odd audience for that. I would have better spent my time bringing my sewing machine manual, and reading it for two hours. read more

I like this location and on my most recent visit, noticed that they re-arranged everything in the store. It was a little tricky to get my bearings but it gave the place a fresh, new look. I always go with a coupon (usually a 40% an item one) and they have an app to make this easier. You can just show them the coupon on your phone. They have a wide variety of everything you could need for crafting and creating. I think they rotate which pattern brands they have on sale, which is nice. read more

When you're ADD with projects like I am, this is the place to shop. I can't tell you how many crafts and DIY's are sitting in my spare room closet half finished but I will say that 90% of the goods are from Joann's. Everything from glitter to fabric, cake pans to bobbins, it's here. Baskets, bins, pencils, candy, frames and soap. Yes, soap. Need to make a bracelet that you saw on Pinterest? Come in and get your supplies, often on sale. Actually almost everything is always on sale. If it? isn't you can easily find a 50% off coupon. No decorations for Independence Day? They are probably already on clearance by Easter! I honestly do love this store. Sometimes they don't have what I need in stock but if I wait a week it all works out. It's my primary craft store, not that we have a lot to choose from, but I'm happy to be a patron. Sales prices are displayed to where you can see the original price and how much it would be after the percentage off. Very cool. They have a whole slew of things to choose from. I placed an order on 12/6/23 and it was cancelled on 12/23/23. This is unacceptable, these were Christmas gifts. I tried calling the customer support and was informed via an automated message that I needed to email customer support at Joann.com. I emailed customer support and never received a response. On 12/23/23 I received an email that my entire order was cancelled. Following is their response to why my order was cancelled: "I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of your entire order. The cancellation was due to an automated sourcing issue in our system, which regrettably is beyond our ability to resolve or control. To fulfill the original order, the items needed to be sourced from multiple shipping locations. However, our system automatically cancels orders once they reach a certain number of sourcing locations. Please understand that this process is fully automated and cannot be halted." Every time I go in there, everyone is so nice. Tonight, I had 2 items. I used my 50% off from my phone for one item. The cashier asked if I had another coupon. I told her no. I make quilts therefore I buy lots and lots of fabric. Unfortunately, when I want a variety of cheap fabric, this is the place to go. The store is huge, the location is decent but it is always very, very busy. Because the store is so huge, there is plenty of fabric to choose from, the variety is really good. The downside is they make it look like you're getting a deal when they put it on sale or offer a coupon but the same brand fabrics cost a lot less at Wal-Mart (although Wal-Mart does not have the selection). I also love that there is a Husqvarna sewing machine dealer located right in the store. The women who work there (especially Chris) are friendly and knowledgeable regarding the machines they sell. It is always a pleasure working with them. Why one star? The cutting table. I actually go in with the attitude that fabric cutting will take a very long time and/or I will be dealing with someone inefficient, crabby, incompetent or all three. This last time was the last straw. The clerk's name was Molly. While I waited to have fabric cut Molly actually told someone who asked if they could have 2 2-yard cuts of the same fabric and she said absolutely not, that is against "company policy" and they have to take 4 yards. Now I would normally not question that , but I have seen that done at every fabric store in town - how ridiculous to say no. So when it was my turn, I had 8 bolts of fabric and some rick-rack. I started to stack them on the counter when Molly announced that I had to put them in the order of amounts I wanted cut so all the 1-yard cuts were together and all the half-hard cuts were together. (How stupidly demanding!) Then she cut the first fabric crooked. She flipped it around and measured it, flipped it back and re-measured it, then turned it over and measured it again (I could see that it was 36 inches on one side and 37 inches on the other). I asked if there was something wrong she said it was off and I told her not to worry about it-I would square it up anyway. She still had to stare at if for a while before deciding to let it go. I have no idea what that was about. So after spending way too much time flipping the fabric backwards and forwards over and over we finally move on to the second fabric. She asked me how much of it I wanted. Now remember, she made me pile it in groups of the amounts of yardage I wanted so I reminded her that the entire pile was going to be 1-yard cuts. She rolled her eyes. After cutting this fabric, she rolled the bolt back up, turned around to put it in the bin with the rest of the fabrics that were behind her and proceeded to take out other fabrics from that bin (not fabrics I had cut) and roll them up! I said "excuse me, are you going to finish cutting my fabrics?!" She proceeded to the next one where again, she asked me how much I wanted. ONE YARD!! By the time we got to the half-yard cuts Molly decided to weigh in on the project the customer next to me was making. I thought I was never going to get out of the store. Lastly came the rick-rack. I wanted 5 yards. Sadly, with making it look like the effort it takes for a power lifter to lift 700-pounds, she started to unroll the rick-rack. It was cut at a point that looked to me like about 2 yards or so. Before she started to talk, I told her it had to be continuous, not in two pieces. I got a big, heavy sigh/eye roll from her (which in retrospect is strange since according to her, "company policy" says she can only give me 1 cut of the same product anyway). So she proceeded to roll up the cut rick-rack before cutting me the 5 yards I wanted! I checked my watch, she was cutting my fabric for over 40 minutes at this point. Not only was she inefficient, she was a condescending know-it-all that should not be allowed to talk to people. I could have had this amount of fabric cut in less than 10 minutes at the Cudahy store. I have never had such horrible, horrible service from such an awful clerk. She should be stocking shelves and taking inventory, not working with customers in any way whatsoever. read more

I came to this store because the Brookfield location did not carry the stuff I wanted. I presented this 40% off a single item coupon which I found online to the cashier when checking out and she looked at the coupon then said "this is a fake coupon". At first I did not understand what she meant by that because the coupon looks legit; it had Joann's name on it, an expiration date, a bar code for in-store use, and even a code for online use. She said that this coupon was forged because: 1. They only offer coupons via E-mail and you do not get coupons from any other sources. 2. The expiration date on this coupon is ~2 months away from today and they do not have coupons with an expiration date of that far away. She then gave me a lecture in front of 10+ customers in line about how I need to go to their official website to sign up for the E-mail subscription in order to receive "genuine coupons" and that they will not honor fake coupons like these because they are forged by "some people". Okay whatever you say, lady... I took her advice and went to their official website only to find that what she told me was a lie - They DO offer printable coupons on their website without E-mail subscriptions and the coupon which I printed was EXACTLY the same coupon (i.e. same expiration date, bar code, online code, and etc.) which is available to print on their website. I can't believe I actually believed her words and let her embarrass and accuse me for using a fake coupon when the coupon was 100% genuine. I then called the store manager about this and wanted him to "educate" their employees about the printable coupons that were offered via their official website. The funny thing was that he pretty much repeated everything that the cashier had told me earlier... "We do not offer printable coupons", "you can only get coupons via E-mail", "those coupons aren't genuine" even though I've told him where to locate the coupon on their official website. With that said, maybe Joann need to re-train and educate their employees about printable coupons that are offered via their official website without E-mail subscriptions. I guess I'll stick with Michaels for all my crafting needs. PS - If you go to joann.com then store locator, type in your zip code and click on "More Store Information" on any of the stores listed on the page, you'll be able to print out the coupon. read more

Twice I have gone to this store and they were closed out of the blue. No sign on the door just snippy staff yelling that they were closed . When I asked why I was ignored and she walked into the building. What is the problem? You could at least explain what is going on to your customers. read more

Visited this location yesterday. I didn't personally have too many problems, but an older woman came up to me and asked me for craft advice - saying the associates she spoke to weren't of any help. Note, I don't work there. I helped her find what she needed, and went on my way. I will say that the sales were pretty great for what I needed. However, please have more staff available to cashier. I know it was a fairly odd time to get busy (2:30pm on a Friday), but there were probably 20-25 people in line and only three cashiers. The girl that rang me up seemed so stressed, I felt awful. I usually go for their paper crafting items. The last two times (in two month period) I was going to purchase a specific item. Going online to check where the item was available it indicated there was 1 left. However when I got there, no one could find it. Fast forward to last week. I went for a different item. Staff told me they had 3 in stock. But-- no one could find them. Finally told me they have no idea why computer says 3 but no sign of them even in back room. I emailed Jo-Ann Fabrics on their web site expressing my frustration but no response a week later. That's my last attempt to shop there. read more

Her artistic talent is wonderful and her suggestions are always the perfect compliment to the art that I'm trying to highlight. I have spent a little less than a fortune at Joann's in my time and if it wasn't for the convenience and the selection, I would not go. The staff are not very helpful and actually quite snotty as if you are bothering them when asking them a question. They seem to have some issues with their prices too. One example of about 20 I could give you is: Made a purchase, item was on sale - register rang up a completely different price and didn't show it was on sale. You're now talking 3 different prices involved. Girl stood there and just said, "oh, I'm not sure why that is coming up that way".... long silent pause.....I had to ask her to check on it so she sent another girl over which you would have thought she walked to the one in Brookfield to find the item. Really? the store is not that big. Bottom line, I was right and after arguing and standing around, they finally fixed the price on my purchase. I have much better luck at the one in Brookfield, they are much nicer and much more helpful. read more

I think its an okay store. Lots of different supplies for different projects. While they have a huge selection of fabric I swear half of it is fleece. I usually have trouble finding a fabric I like even with the selection they have. They have a lot of ribbons but I think they actually need more variety. Great selection of thread, tons of yarn, and tons of embroidery supplies to keep you happy. You might have to wait a while to get your cloth cut to size as there are times when 10,000,000 people need cloth cut at once (take a number... literally). They offer classes in a number of crafts, but I have yet to take one (I probably should). read more

My experience shopping here this past weekend was a nightmare to say the least. Under COVID guidelines, they are allowing twenty people in the store at once, which WOULD be understandable if they could accurately track the amount of customers inside. The teenage employees in charge of counting people were rude when their count was questioned and of course they were wrong. Once inside after waiting patiently in a 30 minute line, I encountered about 3 customers, and literally 10+ employees working in a practically empty store. It was impossible to not run into the employees pushing their giant carts around. It was also strange how literally half the lights were off, but wait, there's more.The woman working at the fabric counter asked "how bad" the line was while cutting my fabric, and when I said it was a 30 minute line she, and I quote said, "that's what happens when people take too long shopping." Excuse me, but after waiting 30 minutes I think customers have a right to take as long as they please. Overall, there is no excuse for this experience. They're only getting one star because there's no option for NEGATIVE stars! I went to JoAnn's to look for a specific pattern of fabric that I had gotten in the Racine WI store.....(THAT's a nice store!!!) I couldn't find it which is understandable and found something else. I took a number and waited and waited and waited and waited.....there were only three people in front of me...no reason it should take that long. I gave up, put my fabric back and put my number on the table. Then I went to the yarn dept. I found some nice yarn and then needed to use the rest room. The sign said Uni-sex....lock the door behind you...which I did. The room was filthy...FILTHY. No hook to put my purse on....I hate to say what was smeared on the floor.......(I wanted to wash my shoes after I washed my hands!!!)....they had 4 bottles of half used hand wash sitting on the sink. Not a problem but it looked sloppy. Back out to the store to go to the check-out. There were literally 22 women in line. I've been in stores that had a lot of people in line and that happens but then, that line usually moves. This one didn't progress at all......Well, I progressed.....I left my cart in an aisle and progressed myself right out the door.....They lost a customer that day but they probably haven't noticed and probably don't care anyway. By the way...to all that posted a bad review....the Racine store is really nice..no framing dept. but Hobby Lobby is right down the street (and they're really helpful) AND....the South Milwaukee store is really nice too. read more
