I wish I could write a good review because Joann has been a staple my entire life. Novi used to be a beautiful store with every craft item you could possibly want. Now it has empty shelves everywhere. It's unkempt and understaffed. The minute you walk in, you can understand the financial woes. If you have no inventory, you have no sales. If you have no sales, you have no money to buy inventory. The financial woes are obvious. It breaks my heart. read more

I have shopped at Jo-Ann's for decades. There was a time when the stores were wonderful. Sales staff were enthusiastic, pleasant, knowledgeable and interested in your sewing project. Six or seven decades layer after many changes that's gone. Novi store is dingey. Sales staff couldn't care less about anything. I placed an order for a bolt , 8 yards of fabric. I expected it to be on a bolt board. When I picked up my order, it was crammed and scrunched into a small bag. When I freed it from its confines it looked like a wadded mess. I ordered fabric online. Of my order for 5 cuts of fabric about a total of 10 yds, only 2 cuts (4 yards) were canceled. It took about 2 days and it was ready for pickup today. We drove up, called the store and let them know we had arrived. We did not have to get out of the car Nor roll our windows down. I showed my ID and confirmation order email through the window. I wrote a note saying Thank you you and displayed this through window. She placed items in our trunk. I and Joann rep gave a smile and thumbs up! The customer service is terrible at this location. There's two employees that know what they're doing. One of them is a lady named Sharon. She's always very helpful. My husband, and I, Try to go when she's working. We missed her yesterday. I took some yarn back to exchange for another color. Same brand and same price. It should have been an even exchange. The kid charged my husband $3 more. She said we had a coupon, on the receipt from the yarn we were returning. There was no coupon. We asked the manager and she couldn't give us a straight answer. She told us there's more tax on it now! ‍ Two employees, out of the three in the store, who don't know how to make an even exchange. The cashier told another customer the app has a bar code that has to be scanned, each time she purchases something, so she can get points to apply to other purchases. I was told the app only had coupons, so I don't go on it very often. My husband has spent a lot of money in there and we've missed out because we've never been asked to show that bar code. I have to go back one more time to return yarn they didn't have a replacement for. After that, we're going to Hobby Lobby. That's a better store and shopping experience. read more

Easy to park and huge selection. It's clean and well lit. The main issue is there are maybe three people working in total here during the day. Asking someone to help you find something is near impossible. It felt like the three of them were running between the registers, the fabrics and other areas where there are service desks like the front and the framing section. It took me forever to find what I was looking for, and literally walked the whole store about 4 times both upstairs and downstairs. Not only did I put in my step quota for the day according to my Fitbit, but I've now learned the store and lay out and can direct fellow customers where to find things if they need help! This is my go to place in life right now! I like many have taken to doing crafts and learning new things to do with my time down during COVID-19. Joanne fabrics has some of the best sales and always has online coupons to get 50 to 40% off at least one item and sometimes you can get 20% off your entire purchase. There are exclusions but basically there's a lot of stuff in the store that you can get for almost half off or half off if you're lucky enough to score one of the 50% off coupons. They also give you coupons with purchases. I have purchased many shirts I have purchased many spray paints and acrylic paints I recommend the lilac brand of acrylic paint if you want to do T-shirts which is what I use them for silk screening and that kind of thing. The staff is very knowledgeable and if one of the staff members doesn't know where one of the other ones well or one of the customers well it's really like a family community I learned so much about things like the cricut machine and ended up purchasing one and I'm now using the cricut to make all kinds of amazing wonderful things that took me on a journey I never expected and it all started with me stopping by Joanne fabrics and getting great customer service at this location and talking to the people there and them showing me all the things that I can do and all of the information that is already out there too I can learn how to use their products it's not like I'm starting from base one they told me there's a Facebook group a YouTube group all types of groups that have so much information so you're not starting this new endeavor alone there's plenty of people out there that can show you how to do the crafts that you are looking to do if you're a newbie which in this case I was. Megan at this Jo-Ann Fabrics went above and beyond for me with picture frames here today, so this store gets five stars from me. I had three things to frame, a signed picture and two matted prints. We tried various frames and one of them wouldn't close, so she had to use some sort of tool to close it. I also was trying to spend $30 so I could use my $5 off $30 coupon, and I just about hit it - the total was like $30.50. This was my first time in this store, also, and possibly the first time in a Jo-Ann's, I think, and I definitely would return to framing. read more

I have shopped at Joann fabrics for many years. Lately I have noticed the Novi, MI store is looking extremely dirty and the choice of home decor fabrics is also not as good. I love going to this location because it's a solid two stories of all kinds of crafting supplies and items for all of your needs. I often wait for a coupon and then head in to see what's on clearance and on sale for my projects. I've found great decorations for Christmas, so many supplies for baking, crafting, jewelry making, and other items I need to give our parties the extra punch! Whether you are planning a wedding, like crafting in general, or need fabric, this place is for you. The customer service at the Novi location has been steadily going downhill since covid. They rarely have more than one employee working, the lines are always at least 10 people deep, you can't go in and grab anything quick because you always have to wait in line at least 15 to 20 minutes. I regularly chose them over their competitors, but I have started shopping the competitors more frequently because I'm able to get what I need and get out without taking up a large chunk of my day. I tried using their online service to order and pick up in store but they do not have an easy way to pick up. You still have to wait in line the 15 to 20 minutes it takes for them to get through the customers. It's unfortunate because they have a good selection of craft items but they can't keep up with other large craft stores. read more

TWO FLOORS OF CRAFTY GOODNESS. Yes, you read that right--TWO floors. Oh boy! I was indeed in supply heaven. The selection was pretty stellar and I was able to find most of what I was looking for with ease (although their fabric paint stock could use some refilling). I love Jo-Ann's around the holidays not just because they have all the things I need to make gifts but they also have spectacular deals on their holiday gear. This location is no exception. They've got a great selection of decor,--Christmas village pieces, and serving items for holiday gatherings, all at 50% off! Score! My trip here was not entirely perfect, however. I will preface this complaint by saying that I spent roughly 7 years during high school and college working in retail. I get the stress of holidays and that people can get grumpy. But I was still really irked when the lady cutting my fabric got snippy with me because I was second guessing my fabric choices. Bolt one: I thought I needed two yards but on second thought I decided to go with four. So I politely asked for another two yards to be cut. The next bolt came up and I when she unraveled the fabric I paused to make sure it was enough so I wouldn't need a second cut. Then came the snip, and I don't mean the scissors. I was very rudely told that I should figure out what I wanted because they don't do custom cutting. AKA- she wouldn't cut more if I needed it. WTF? I was nothing but pleasant beforehand and it was only two bolts! Not like I had a cart full of bolts and I was asking her to cut each one twice. Ugh. It really rubbed me the wrong way. The rest of our exchange was very terse and short. Not the nice exchanges I usually have with the ladies cutting for me. Left me in a pretty crummy mood. I'm trying not to judge the whole shop based on my experience with one employee who might have had an off day, which is why I still give the spot 4 stars. After all they've got a great selection and everyone else was SO very nice--from the floor staff to my cashier. But I must include my experience with Ms. Grumpypants since it left such a negative impression on me. I'll definitely head back and hit this shop again in the future but I'll hang onto my number slip until someone else calls me if I encounter that particular employee again. read more

Absolutely terrible service at the Cutting Counter for fabrics here. First, was told to bring in my items and that I could receive partial store credit (50% of the value of my fabric) without a receipt since full returns can not be given without receipt. TOTALLY UNDERSTANDABLE. Got in and was completely ignored. The woman at the counter was, just moments before, laughing and so generously helping someone else. Upon seeing me and the 2 ladies I came in with approach the counter, her mood seemed to change. She became very quiet and walked away. We said hello, and she ignored completely. Another woman yelled from another area of the cutting counter, telling us she could help us there. We walked over to that side, where she asked if we had grabbed a number. I did not, and asked if I should just grab one then. She cut my question off, looked very irritated, and asked what I needed. I explained the situation I discussed on the phone prior. She asked who I spoke with, and she told me that no one who worked there would say that. Unfortunately, I never got the woman's name and drove over 30miles because they told me they would do the partial return. She called for someone to confirm the policy, and snatched my fabrics from the JoAnn's bag to begin examining them. A woman named Melissa came over, also looking very irritated (at this point I am not sure what I did to upset these people having just walked in). She also asked who I spoke with (which I did not know), and said that they could not return the fabric as I could have removed 10 inches at home. Again, understandable, which is why the person on the phone explained that only a partial return of 50% of the value toward an exchange could be done. No apologies were offered for the misinformation, just abrasive attitudes telling me that I was wrong. Policy is policy, which is fine, but the way it was handled was very poor. A manager came over to further confirm, and she was very polite about it. Her name was Susan and she also asked who I spoke with on the phone. Again, I did not grab a name as I did not think I would need it later. Overall, everyone else was extremely rude. We left the store, and decided to email corporate about the experience. I called the store to retrieve the first names of the women at the counter. I noticed Susan's and Melissa's on their name tags, but neglected to look at the other 2 who were the first 2 women to ignore us and be extremely rude. Susan got on the phone and we explained honestly that we would be emailing corporate about the experience, and including that she was very helpful. She refused to give us the first names of the 2 women, which are clearly printed on their name tags, and therefore not so confidential information. She informed us that it was against policy, which begs MY question....WHY did everyone treat me like a crazy person for not grabbing the name of the woman I spoke with when I called the store, if you clearly do not even willingly provide that information? Never coming here again, and I have a call scheduled with the District Manager shortly. This service was beyond disappointing. read more

If you asked most guys, they'd probably admit to never having had been in a fabric store OR they'd never admit that they had. Jo-Ann's is great. Similar to Michael's but better in a lot of ways, Jo Ann's has a plethora of not only fabric materials but also materials to fabricate with. Every now and then I get a patient who wants me to build them something with a personalized flair specific to their hobbies so I start looking here. If I need a zippered application on a design, I start here. If I plan on making something as a Christmas gift I start here. They have a ton of merch worth looking into if you're any kind of do-it-yourself designer, artist or you just want to make something for somebody you care about. I like to go on ETSY and get ideas and then go buy all the stuff I need to make whatever it was that caught my eye in the first place. It's usually more affordable than buying the finished product and it's a breeze to do on your own. Jo-Ann's will likely have what you need...start here! read more

The smell of cinnamon scented pine cones immediately makes me feel happy to be in the store. And who wouldn't be happy to be surrounded by aisles upon aisles of creativity? Any type of crafty hobby you have, Jo-Ann has something you can buy to enjoy that hobby more. I personally love their selection of scrapbooking materials. I don't sew, but looking at all the cool stuff that can be made, makes me want to try! A great tip is that they have tons of holiday seasonal items that come out early and go on sale early. Translation: get cheap Halloween or Christmas stuff before anyone else's stuff goes on sale. When I was ready to check out, I saw the line which looked to be miles long and thought, "I'll never get out of here." WRONG! I was amazed at how many cashiers they had and how quickly the line moved. My only one tiny complaint about the experience: The cashier called me "Ma'am" way too many times. I am in my 30's, not in my 60's! I highly recommend that you take a trip to Jo-Ann. Don't forget your 40% coupon! read more

Everyone knows that Joann's coupons are confusing to get people to spend more money than they intended. That's a given. I'm giving this store one star review--and would give zero if I could--because the manager was inexcusably rude to me twice--first when I asked for directions to a department and again when I questioned the exclusions on a coupon. I will never be back and if you can you should choose a different Joann's too. Or better yet, go to Michael's instead. read more

I shopped here despite the less than favorable reviews. My shopping experience was excellent. Every employee I interacted with treated me kindly and professionally. My bill was approximately $220 before an employee showed me how to use their instore coupons and save 40% off my bill. What a pleasant and unexpected surprise. Apparently this store doesn't like to sell items. Went to this store, and admittedly it was late in the day, about a half hour before close on a Sunday. Was looking for a sewing machine (and fabric and some add-ons to it as well. Looking to take it up with the wife to support some of our hobbies). They have a big display, and I admit that it was a nice display with what looked to be places to try before buying. The section was closed, which I get, it was late on Sunday. We had done research though and had a reasonable idea of what we wanted. Had some questions still but were ready to decide and buy. Well, we stood there for a good 15 minutes, no greet, no asking if we needed help. I went looking for assistance and saw nobody but one person manning the cutting station with a line. Not pleased. We eventually made a decision on a machine, picked up some material (no extras by now as we had wasted time looking for help and didn't want to keep people late. We both have worked retail before and know how that feels) and went to get it cut and checked out. Being late on a. Sunday the line was thankfully short. Then as the worker began to measure the fabric she informed us that apparently they cannot sell sewing machines when the demonstration area is closed, which it does every day a full hour before the store does. Apparently that means they no longer have the capability to read bar codes anymore. I get the lack of service (to an extent) as it was late and they probably wanted to get home. Not appreciated, but I get it. But the whole no selling sewing machines when the little display area closes is just stupid. I am not asking for a big discount, or some bend over backwards contortion of what a store regularly does, just somebody to scan a box and take my money (card actually, so even easier with fewer germs!). So, no sale for them, I won't be going back to that particular store again (there is a smaller one closer that just didn't have the model in stock that day that we will continue to buy fabric and the various miscellany from), and we ordered our new machine from Amazon. I don't know who's stupid rule that is, but nuts to them. tl dr: no service, wouldn't let me buy an item because the display area was closed. Bought Amazon instead. read more

This morning (3/18/2017) at about 10:00 a.m., I was in the Novi, Michigan store to purchase fabric. The store was nearly empty. When I approached the check out area, I was next in line. A woman ahead of me was almost, but not quite finished with her purchase. There were two cashiers. One was waiting on her, and the other was looking at a magazine. I recognize the cashier looking at the magazine because she has been at the store for a long time. She is small in stature, blonde, wears a headband (always), knows JoAnn's advertisements very well, and says "have a blessed day." I've also heard her voice religious opinions from time to time. Usually she recognizes me right away, and waits on me. this time she gave me a long hard look. she saw my p ink hat and my button that reads "unpaid protester." this time she shouted to the cashier, "I can't wait on the next customer." And there was no other customer behind me. there was just me. Then, she turned her back to me and continued looking at her magazine. I didn't have to wait long, probably just a half a minute, but that is not the point. She very well could have taken me the instant I approached the check out area. but she didn't. After the cashier greeted me, the one with head band said her hellos. I pretended not to see her. I am advising Jo Ann Fabrics to talk to their employees about taking care of all of your paying customers as soon as they approach the check out area. The Constitution allows me the freedom of expression. And our civil rights laws allow me to be waited on. read more

The selection at this store is great. They just moved a bunch of stuff around and added new products, but the same old problem is still there. The checkout process is painfully slow. I try to go there in the middle of the week when I can, because if you go on the weekend you'll wait in line for at least 20 minutes, if not longer. read more

I love this store!!! I am never disappointed. The staff is so friendly and helpful. It's huge and has just about every crafty item you can think of. If you are a teacher, please remember to get your discount card (15%) off of your total order, even for items on sale. They always seem to have great sales. I have the phone app and usually get 50% off coupons regularly. I've graduated from no sew blankets, to loom knitting and I'm hoping to add sewing to my repertoire of craftiness. The online store isn't listed, so this is no reflection on this Joann store: I can't believe you are for real. I will tell everyone I know how far behind you are online. This is such an easy fix, but apparently you don't care about your online customers. Just shut it down if you're not going to have someone update it. I placed an order over a week ago. I received an email 3 days ago with a tracking number for flowers I ordered for fathers day. They were ordered to put on his grave, so I've been biting my nails all week hoping they would arrive on time. Today, by the way is the day they were suppose to arrive, I got an email that my order was cancelled? I called and sure enough, I was told well our computer system is behind so we don't know when something is out of stock. So the email was in regards to a butterfly that was to be inside the flowers. Wow. I am speechless. I don't think I've ever been deceived like this before. I told her I don't really need the butterfly now do I? She advised me to refuse it. Really? Are you for real? As big as your store name is, you don't know you;re listing items you no longer have? Where are you spending your money? You could hire a 12 year old to fix this problem. You should be ashamed. After I spent hours looking for the right flowers online, you don't send me anything for 4 days which is unreal, then you send me a tracking number for a $1.50 butterfly. What am I suppose to do now? I could have ordered from anyone and had already put them in the ground. I shop online because Iam disabled, so I don't drive around like everyone else. You make me sick. This store has a *huge* selection of basically everything you could need. I do a lot of prop-making and end up here a lot more than I'd like to be, but the staff's always pleasant, and they don't move much around which makes my last-minute deadline shopping go by faster. They have a good paint selection & reasonable pricing on the nicer brushes, which is great because I go through those really fast. I wouldn't come here for actual art supplies, blick's is way cheaper & they give better student pricing, but Joanns is closer and they have a good amount of the weirder supplies I use. They're amazing about coupons, too, I make sure I'm organized with mine, but I rarely pay full price for anything with how many coupons they have. My only complaint is that it can take forever to cash out, but I heard that they run understaffed because of corporate cuts so it's not like it's their fault, & their cashiers are always friendly even if the line's massive. I just make sure I'm not running on a tight schedule if I need to stop here. read more
