Let me start off by saying that when you have cancer it is never easy, but everyone here really tried to do their best to treat us with respect, care and professionalism. There is not much these people can do to change your circumstances but they do try to make their part as painless as possible. Dr. Mekhail's administrative assistant, Teri, is incredible. She keeps a thousand balls up in the air at once and never drops one of them. She comes to the phone when you call, she sets up all of your appointments for their office as well as for scans and blood work or any other testing done outside of their office. She has incredible follow through and she knows who you are when you call or come in. Thank You Teri. Dr. Mekhail's nurse and now part of the protocol research team is Tammy. During the first few appointments Tammy showed such kindness, patience, grace and offered us so much comfort that we will be eternally grateful. She was also full of information and little tips of how to deal with what was going to be happening. Thank You Tammy. In the chemo room a special thank you to Robert and Mel and there was one other woman, a black woman who I apologize - I don't know her name, who treated my friend with such tenderness and warmth AND expertise. You all made the rigors of chemo palatable. Thank you. There are times you will wait. They are incredibly busy. My friend grew impatient at the wait at times, understandably so, she was usually in pain, exhausted, nauseous and anxious. For me, sitting in the chair next to her, I understood the waits. So, There but for the grace of God go I, if I were diagnosed with cancer tomorrow would I go to the Cancer Institute of Florida? Yes, I would. Thank you all for your care during a difficult time.

My question is why this place has a high-ranking review. Here is my experience with this place: On…read moreSeptember 16, 2024, I was diagnosed with lupus and Sjögren's syndrome. This is what the nurse practitioner told me. By the way, I never met the doctor; I only see her for a second follow-up, three months apart, and then six months apart. The only thing she does for me is touch me and send me to do blood work--no treatment, nothing. Every time I go to a different doctor or even urgent care, they always ask me why I am not getting treated. My answer is always the same: I don't know; ask them. I'm not a doctor; they are the ones who diagnosed me. They are all baffled as to why I am not getting treated. They keep billing my insurance and taking my copay, using me as a piggy bank. I am super upset with the service I receive now that I have fired all my medical staff who were supposed to make me feel better. Now I have to start from scratch. Don't waste your time with this place; they will take your money and do nothing to get you better. (06/24/2025) Update: I am having huge trouble finding a rheumatologist in the Orlando area. I was willing to give this place another shot, but I demanded to see a doctor, not a nurse practitioner. The incompetent phone lady told me the doctor doesn't take my insurance; only the nurse practitioner is the one who takes my insurance. However, when I checked my insurance app, the doctor's name is in-network. Something very fraudulent is going on. How is it possible that this facility accepts my insurance, but the only one who can take my insurance is the nurse practitioner? Make it make sense; it sounds fraudulent and unethical. This rheumatologist should be ashamed of themselves for taking patients' money and charging our insurance.

My partner is a patient has me as an authorized user on the account. (Keep this in mind) I have filled out paperwork and been in this office many times on her behalf. I have called on her behalf and dealt with these people a lot. Getting them on the phone can take several minutes to get through pointless and slow automated messages and if you do get through, this office usually doesn't answer and if they do then they immediately put you on hold as if they have 50 people waiting.(they do not every time i go at any hour there may be 3 people and keep in mind there aren't even 10 chairs in this closet they call an office.) If you do get through they will have attitude and if there are fees involved they will repeat it over and over and over again that you need to pay but they won't tell you costs or inconvenience until you're experiencing it. Multiple times we needed ADA paperwork filled out and they allowed me to do that on my partners behalf but today they said i could not do that which tells me that if i was never allowed in the first place then they violated HIPPAA (We found out today i was never on the list so yes they violated HIPPAA multiple times). They said this after i faxed it which cost $44 on its own. After faxing it at 10am i call at 3pm to give them plenty of time and they tell me they don't see anything from us. This paperwork is time sensitive and the friday before the employee working there told my partner that if faxed we would be able to get it all done in time. Today we are being told it takes this place 48 hours to receive a fax. My partner could literally lose their job due to their archaic systems and poor training. I asked to escalate this a supervisor who also stated they can't see the paperwork anywhere. When told everything they did not say anything about the employees mistake or whose fault it would be if my partner loses her job over this. When asked direct and clear questions the supervisor just kept repeating that there would be additional charges and said nothing to help. I mentioned that we will have to get a lawyer if my partner loses her job due to the horrific negligence and training on the staff here. If you want to email they do not let you use their printer. So they will tell you to fax like that's a quick solution but again they make you wait 48 hours. The female supervisor i spoke to today also told me to "bring it" when i said i may have to contact a lawyer and started yelling at me and my partner. She then tried to my partner i would not be allowed in after adding me to the system again confirming these violations if I'm "disrespectful" which to this woman means not agreeing with her. This place is a front to scam mostly old people out of their savings. They will try to charge you every penny they can while making you wait at least weeks to even look at paper and their employees mind as well have stepped out of the ghetto and behind the desk with how their attitudes are. When my partner went to pass the paperwork in by hand since fax was never gonna be an option because "all faxes take 48 hours no matter where you go". This tells me on top of everything they use analog faxes because they are that cheap heaven forbid they can print for the elderly. The female supervisor also doubled down and said that the employee who gave false info was not wrong at all. And the female supervisor also admitted that they violated HIPPAA by giving my partners info to people not on the profile which is apparantly me so they even told me to my face that they are violating HIPPAA. I await a response to see how this is acceptable in any kind of professional way and will keep updating especially if my partner loses her job and this goes to court. i also have proof they violate HIPPA pretty casually as my wife was in the hospital giving birth when i filled out paperwork for her on her behalf. which they allowed me to do by just knowing her birthday. if you care about your family don't bring them here If anyone has any questions, has a good malpractice lawyer, or wants to to start a class action please feel free to contact me on here.
