I need to share my review at this place. It used to be great place to take my dogs to. However, it's getting dirtier and dirtier, no maintenance at all. People are not minding their pups/dogs and let them run around, chase others dogs or bark non-stop. There was mud, there was dog waste everywhere and noone picked up after their dogs. I won't be here again

LouLou loves this park. It's close to home and while in the beginning she would get lonely (we used to sing "I'm So Ronery, So ronery, So ronery and sadry arone" on a regular basis), now there seems to be a steady stream of nice people and pooches. Our new favorite is Turtle who is the cutest little pup ever! They also recently put down wood chip to cover up the horrible pebbles/dirt that used to be there. LouLou's paw pads would get ripped to shreds and now the new surface makes it easier to play ball - she can run like crazy and not hurt her feet. Someone mentioned that some of the dog owners don't control their dogs and that's true. . .when faced with that situation, I just do what I have to do even if that means correcting another dog. In dog park speak, that shit is like spanking someone else's kid. It's kind of a big no- no but I think it's worse to park your carcass in a lawn chair and ignore your dog while your precious pup is wreaking havoc on everyone else. Uncool. I've gotten to where I know most of the dogs that come in the afternoon and if a problem dog (actually the dog is not the problem, it's always the owner) comes in, I just keep an eye on Lou and if she seems distressed, we just leave. It's a beautiful setting so I refuse to let a few bad pet owners keep me and LouLou from enjoying it. Also, the surrounding trails are awesome and LouLou likes to run through and stalk squirrels (from the safety of her leash).

The love of my life would rank this place a five-paw salute. I give it a four only because it closes a couple of times a year so that attendees to the Woodminster Theater can park inside the park. I don't know what's more interesting the dogs interacting or the parade of humans that come. My husband and I have been bringing our dog here (the big-dog park) almost every day since December 2008. It's a safe place to let dogs run and socialize with one another. The regulars at the park are very attentive to their dogs and their behavior. Poop is owner-scooped regularly. Occasionally, dog fights do occur as one might expect at any dog park but the owners and park attendees have all moved quickly to squelch any problems. For owners of small dogs, there is a separate gated park right next to the big park. There do tend to be fewer dogs in that park, but at times it gets busy. Just keep coming back. The basics: Water bowls and fountains available Wood chip terrain Large fenced in space Bulletin boards available for posting lost and found pets, leashes, or pet equipment Lots of tennis balls lying around Regulars frequently bring toys etc. to help initiate play Usually a bag of extra bags around for poop-scooping

This is how dog parks are routinely maintained in Florida..

The small dog park is, once again, a dusty mess. I will not be taking my dog there until more wood chips are brought down. I had a conversation with an employee, who was picking up bottles and cans from the dog park the day after an event (at which time they utilize the dog park as a parking lot). He told me that they don't want to use the chips because "the rain turns them to mulch". Rain, WHAT RAIN? It does not rain enough to do this. If OPR would put as much effort into minor maintenance of the dog parks (and the rest of the park, for that matter!) as they do on events, things would be much better. Hey, how about some GRASS? These employees should go to the Miami area and would see what a dog park SHOULD look like, as they are extremely well-maintained. Dogs and the people who love them should not have to be in dust clouds for play time.

    Dirty doggie!

So this dog park is really close to me. I want to love it. It is so convenient! But it is fairly small and does not get much sun, at least in the winter. I went there for the first time a week ago because I was in a time crunch. We got there and it looked OK at first glance. There were two other dogs at about 9:30 AM. This was the large dog park. So we get in and everything's going OK and then I get to the middle of the area and realize that under the bark is just pure disgusting smelly mud! My dog loved it! I hated it! She romped around for a long time eating the bark, snorting the smelly mud, kicking the muck everywhere. I was so glad I had my boots on or I would have had wet dirty feet with mud squishing between my toes. My dog didn't seem to mind the mud squishing between her toes--in fact she was downright enjoying it. Thankfully I had a blankeT in the car to wrap her up in before I Lifted her into the back of my SUV or I would have been a muddy mess. Did I mention I was in a time crunch? Well this almost made me late for my appointment because I had to stop at Petfood Express and give her a bath because there was no way she was going in the house like that! So brave this park in the winter and spring only if you are prepared with boots, towel, and hose. Or if it has been dry for a fairly long period. Be prepared to wash everything that comes in touch with the mud because it stinks. I may give this park another try in the summer when things have dried out. For now I am sticking with my absolute favorite dog park inn Alameda--best dogs, best park, best location, best owners.

2 stars for the dog park (dusty wood ship heap) being close to the house. Doesn't seem well kept at all. These photos were taken the night before garbage day- but seriously--- they should never let it get this bad. The stench could be smelled from even far away. So gross.

    simone loves to run!!

A wonderful park where both people and dogs can relax, socialize, and enjoy meeting new friends.

Joaquin Miller park is also very quiet, which is nice because the Hardy park is so loud and dark.

The trail is peppered with numerous trolls. Kids and young at heart adults would love this sort of thing. The trolls are made of all different materials and so have varied personalities. There were countless trolls but I took a few photos of my favorites. City folk would love this place. If you are cooped up in a tiny two bedroom apartment with no back yard and no privacy this is just the place to go. Even though I've got a massive private backyard diligently maintained with lush landscaping I still enjoy this place. Came around sunset and the way light filtered through the branches of soaring redwoods was majestic. Lots of shady paths but they were a bit muddy - so don't wear your favorite Dunks. The entrance is hard to find and parking is mostly street. People walking here were friendly and many took their dogs. Kids seemed to enjoy the swing area toward the back best. Rocky's market area would be a perfect place to park. Then walk up the hill and look for the public hidden staircases. Elderly might have trouble with stairs. Wheelchair people I didn't see here. Moms with strollers - I'm not so sure - there are lots of roots and hills and parking might be a little ways away. If your blind be sure and bring a person who can tell you how beautiful things are. If a person was blind from birth I wouldn't know what to say. I once met a person as such and had a hard time describing anything as there is no point of reference ever. If you want to recreate this kind of feeling in your own backyard do as I do: Plant narrow evergreens around the entire perimeter of your yard. Then add some bird of paradise and palm trees. Presto! every time you enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning in your yard you have privacy and even in the winter it is green and beautiful.

With that being said the small dog side is super small, but I guess it works for those dogs that have a hard time breathing in high temperatures, I feel like they can do better with supplying more toys on small side. I like the paved pathway around the park, although it's been covered up with tanbark during my last visit.
