Perfect trail for city folk or children. If your a real outdoors person or have needs for longer trails for physical fitness - there are better places. The trail is peppered with numerous trolls. Kids and young at heart adults would love this sort of thing. The trolls are made of all different materials and so have varied personalities. There were countless trolls but I took a few photos of my favorites. City folk would love this place. If you are cooped up in a tiny two bedroom apartment with no back yard and no privacy this is just the place to go. Even though I've got a massive private backyard diligently maintained with lush landscaping I still enjoy this place. Came around sunset and the way light filtered through the branches of soaring redwoods was majestic. Lots of shady paths but they were a bit muddy - so don't wear your favorite Dunks. The entrance is hard to find and parking is mostly street. People walking here were friendly and many took their dogs. Kids seemed to enjoy the swing area toward the back best. Rocky's market area would be a perfect place to park. Then walk up the hill and look for the public hidden staircases. Elderly might have trouble with stairs. Wheelchair people I didn't see here. Moms with strollers - I'm not so sure - there are lots of roots and hills and parking might be a little ways away. If your blind be sure and bring a person who can tell you how beautiful things are. If a person was blind from birth I wouldn't know what to say. I once met a person as such and had a hard time describing anything as there is no point of reference ever. If you want to recreate this kind of feeling in your own backyard do as I do: Plant narrow evergreens around the entire perimeter of your yard. Then add some bird of paradise and palm trees. Presto! every time you enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning in your yard you have privacy and even in the winter it is green and beautiful. read more

Fun trail for adults and kids. Mostly shaded. We started at the Upper Bridgeview Trailhead off Monterey Blvd. and walked to the end of it at Bridgeview Dr. only to find out that much of the whimsical art we found along the way were actually plotted on a map. We actually preferred not having seen the map, but was fun to put a name to the faces of the sculptures. We could've made our hike longer by walking down the split off at Old Canon Trail which seemed to have more of an elevation. There were some ropes set up, but only one actually seemed functional to swing off. Pro Tips: -street parking, leave no valuables -use the restroom before coming. Hubby drove us to Bridgeview Trail, Oakland in rush hr traffic Fri 4/16/21 after his work, I took a day off. Free street parking on Monterey Blvd & Park Blvd, past Montclair Golf Course. It's only 1.3 miles each way, with some stairs that go up and down, but kids can do it. We were looking for the homemade artwork trolls. We found most of them, except Jupiter & Tabitha. Me and my friend stopped by on a Sunday. Street parking is free on this day so we parked near Leimert Blvd and walked up the public stairway. The location of the trail is just weird. It seems like you are about to go to a dead end of a residential street but you actually end up at the entrance of the trail. The trail is very straightforward and if it's your first time walking it, you shouldn't get lost. Be respectful of other people as some parts of the trail are very narrow and there's not a lot of room to maneuver around on the stairs. There's a bunch of trolls scattered throughout the trail. Most of them are made out of wood. It's kind of cool to see what the creative minds of kids can come up with given the materials they have to work with. It felt like I was walking 2 different trails. The first half of the trail looked dry and dusty. The second half of the trail looked more lively and had more shade cover. There was a running creek and the vegetation was much greener. Just watch your step on the stairs. I encountered several dogs on my walk. Some of the owners didn't have leashes on their dogs. One problem I saw was there was no trash can or trash bags. If your dog takes a poop, you are going to have to pick it up and hold onto it until you exit the trail. Thankfully there wasn't any random dog poop or smell when I was walking the trail. It took about 45 minutes to finish the trail so going back to where I started was about an hour and a half total. Use the restroom before coming because I didn't see any restrooms on my walk. There's no water fountains so bring some water to stay hydrated. There is a good amount of shade from the trees so you're not walking in the sun the whole way. read more

This is great trail with good tree coverage, wide enough to social distance, and of course the Bridgeview Trolls and so fun to look for. The last time we were there we saw that there are now maps for the trolls. Word to the wise - we met a local who said at times it can be annoying for residents when visitors park wonky or in front of driveways and/or do not clean up after themselves or their children and pets. read more

Alternatively, grab a coffee at rockys , park there rather than on the dead end that is also the starting point. You won't annoy the neighbors and you will grab yourself a quality high wire delicious coffee. I'm not much of an outdoors person, but I really enjoyed this trail! I wanted a nice trail to take my 6 month puppy on a walk and this was perfect! It's a really really easy (and for the most part) flat trail that takes 30 minutes if you just walk at a normal brisk pace. I was there for about an hour cause I was playing with the rope swings (which are really fun to play with, but hard to get on/off) and took breaks for my puppy. Towards the end of the trail there's some steps that lead into a small creek. Nothing too crazy but if you don't watch your step you could slip - so be careful! TL;DR I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TRAIL FOR ANYONE! TIP: to access the trail from the neighborhood you're gonna have to go onto the street Bridgeview and take it all the way down until you reach a dead end. Sometimes Apple maps or google maps will take you elsewhere and say you've arrived. read more

My 4 year old and I love this trail and have gone on it several times! It never gets old and is long enough for me to get a slight workout.

This is a sweet neighborhood trail that's owned by the City of Oakland, so dogs are supposed to be on leash (some people abide by this rule, others don't, but trail users are generally friendly and communicative with each other and the dogs are generally good or folks leash them up pronto). Most of the Bridgeview Trail is located above the environmentally delicate Sausal Creek (dogs not allowed in the creek--especially important when the water level is low). If you enter at the Bridgeview end, it is a flat walk unless you choose to dip down just before the trail hits Monterey Blvd., so it's great for seniors or folks that are unsteady or regaining cardiac fitness. It's not paved, so it's not wheelchair accessible. Some areas have lots of poison oak. One stretch is along but above the Montclair Golf Course--golf balls do occasionally land on the trail, which seems impossible when you look way way way down to the driving range, but it happens. There's a drainage issue about midway along the trail, so for most of the year there is a mud hazard (hazardous IMHO because dogs can get very sick from eating mud--ghiardia and leptospirosis are two awful ways they can get sick). Blackberry bushes! Bring your Tupperware or eat as you pick! It's not a very long walk/hike but it is a lovely little spot. Check it out. read more

Great unofficial dog park and trail in Oakland, connects Leimert to Monterey, paralleling Park Boulevard along Dimond Canyon near Montclair Golf range. Enough prepositional phrases for you? A few times a year the City apparently busts people for having dogs off leash. I have taken my dog here for nearly four years and never had any problems. Most dog owners who bring Fido to park and trail are responsible. There is a meadow off Bridgeview at one gate where dogs can fetch and romp. Then, you have about a mile or so trail that connects to Monterey. Steep hillsides down to a creek give dogs quite a workout. You can even keep hiking above Monterey to connect to Joaquin Miller park. Even if you don't have a hound it's a hike worth doing. read more

Love this hidden gem! I park at the trail head, where Bridgeview Drive dead-ends, and hike the trail past the golf course to Monterey Blvd. There's a nice bridge, great views of people at the driving range, huge redwoods, and a beautiful creek. Pretty quiet, fairly flat trail to run on. Great stair running spot at the end where the canyon connects to Monterey Blvd. There are even some rope swings for the kids. No one else had their dogs on leash, but I've only encountered friendly dogs on the trail. Every once in a while I pass sketchy teenagers hanging out and one time it looked like someone was camping by the creek, but no one has ever bothered me. I also found one of Oakland's hidden staircases that connects Bridgeview Dr to Arden Pl and Leimert. For a longer hike I cross Monterey Blvd under the freeway to Joaquin Miller Ct, which will take you to trails in Joaquin Miller Park. I've also hiked to Monterey Blvd to Leimert and back to where I parked. Kinda sketchy in some parts because there isn't a shoulder on the road, but a nice walk. read more

This trail is in my backyard so hard not to love it. There is one area that has steps which had been a little uneven but it looks like some volunteer trail maintenance has occurred recently and they did a great job evening out the steps. Lots of great trees make it a nice shady, peaceful walk. Great for dogs and people alike! Maybe not the best for bikes since I see most cyclists carrying their bikes through. read more

Weaving through redwoods and oaks, this trail eventually merges with the Dimond Trail and Old Canyon Trail. Also leads to Sausal Creek, which is a trail in itself when the tide is low. Mixed with flat and some steep areas, but an overall leisurely hike. The trees offer some temperature reprieve on a hot day. Trailers with small and large dogs are seen about. Highly recommend it! read more

someday, i hope im lucky enough to live in a neighborhood that has a trail like this one. the entrance is located on a closed-end, narrow street. parking is limited nearby since its in a residential neighborhood. its connected to a couple other trails like dimond and sausal creek. bridgeview alone is a short trail, and takes me 15-20 minutes to complete. i usually spend 1-2 hours here because i complete bridgeview + another trail. another reason why i like this trail is because it allows dogs. its not an off-leash trail, but many dog walkers bring their dogs, off-leash. theres a creek at the bottom, if you connect to the dimond trail, for you and your pup to splash around in. i also like how the trail's full of blackberry bushes. the ones along the dimond trail are plumper and easier to pick though..you can expect to find someone (like me) here on a nice day stocking up on berries for making jam and popsicles! read more

A beautiful little trail for easy walking with or without dogs. However, in response to several reviews here, Bridgeview is NOT an "unofficial dog park." It is a City of Oakland trail, where dogs are required to be leashed. There has just been a long social media thread (90+ participants) about the harassment, anxiety, and also dangerous incidents experienced by many walkers from unleashed dogs (no matter how "friendly") here and elsewhere and their owners. The conversation revealed that many people are feeling excluded from use of this public space because of the loose attitude of some toward the leash law. This includes differently abled people, small children, the elderly, other dog walkers who use a leash, and more. Following this recent conversation, be aware that if you walk your dog unleashed you will be called out and at times also documented for reports to the city. read more

This is a nice short trail, but I prefer others in Oakland. Many dog walkers use it and most of the time they have a lot of dogs with them... around 6-8, sometimes more. It gets annoying when they have them off-leash and aren't under voice control. Several occasions there have been dogs who were very energetic and/or overbearing where they would not leave my dog alone. People should really follow the rules to make the trail safe for everyone and their pets. Parking can be difficult because Bridgeview Dr. is a narrow residential street with limited parking spots. There have been times where inconsiderate people ignored the red curbs and parked their car in front at the trailhead anyway which makes it hard for people to make a U-turn in order to leave. So if you arrive and see there are open legal parking spots on the left side of the road, make a U-turn and park on that side to make it easier on yourself when it's time to go home. The upper area near the Montclair Golf course has a fence that's pretty ugly and the trail sometimes get covered with overgrown plants. A plus is there's a cute small bridge. read more
