Oh wow where do I begin? First and foremost, I don't have a dog so let's start there. This is def the spot to go if you're looking to get your steps in and walk your pup(s). The views of SF & the bay are unparalleled, and there are so many pups out and about. There is a doggy spa called Mudpuppy's in case your pup heads into the water, gets a little too dirty on your walk, or quite frankly, if you're having a doggy and me day. Next to Mudpuppys there's also a spot called Sit & Stay Cafe, where you can fill your cup with coffee, tea, smoothies, and more. Also let's mention that Costco is right next door! We used to head to the food court to grab a snack to eat at a bench with a view at Point Isabel. Without dogs, I love walking the shoreline. I can get 2-3 miles for a quick breather, and you can really choose your own path adventure. So if you don't have dogs, you can enjoy smiling at all the fun pups, owners, and breeds. Paths are both paved and gravel, parking accessible. A definite enjoyable spot for morning, afternoon, or early evening.

I've never heard of any other off-leash dog park that's even comes close to this gem we have at Pt. Isabel. Stunning views (Golden Gate Bridge, Mt. Tam, and SF skyline), miles of trails and fields, poop bags and trashes throughout, benches, parking, restrooms, Sit & Stay cafe for drinks/food, Mudpuppy's for baths and dog supplies. You may have the occasional kerfuffle amongst dogs, but most are comfortable off-leash, interacting with other dogs and people. If you want a small fenced area or separation between big and small dogs, this isn't the spot for you. If you enjoy walking while your doggo romps and runs around, or watching other dogs play, this is your dream come true. Now for the caveats: Beware that there are lots of foxtails in the summer. Low tide reveals a silty, bottom-of-the-bay mud that is sticky and very STINKY. Puddles after a rain can also be stinky and silty but they're doing a better job using wood chips to help cover many of them.

beautiful place to walk your dog unleashed. Gorgeous view of SF and with a coffee spot and dog wash at the entrance, it's perfect. Our dog gets so excited every time we come. She gets to meet other pups and wander. Be careful of dogs going into the water and mud ditches, they will definitely need a bath after. Poop bag stations around make it so convenient. Great place for dogs!!

My puppy LOVES this park! Hee

Every time we come to this particular, Shoreline, once we get on the trail my dogs can both be off leash, and while we walk up and down the loop and across the little bridge, it's a nice view as well as an easy trail. Granted, sometimes they get into the mud on the other side of the bridge. It's a beautiful open grassy area that they can run around in! We're far enough inland, so my curious huskies do not try to escape I can take both of them off leash. Lol there's some dogs that I've seen that aren't as friendly, and my dogs get scared when other dogs bark, but the trail is nice and I will definitely be back again. Everyone seems to clean up after themselves with the dog poop and what not so it's, easier on my shoes. Lol the whole loop around from the parking lot down the trail across the little bridge and then looping down by the shore on the other side where the benches are and back is about 2.5 miles. Granted my dogs run a little bit on the grass in between, it's a pretty flat path. I also like the fact there's porta potties that are pretty well kept at the halfway point with the bridge.

Pelicans flying in formation over the Bay. View from Pt. Isabel.

Great park for people with and without dogs. Everyone was extremely friendly and all the dogs were well-mannered. We went in mid-August and the grass was cut, so foxtails, ticks, etc. weren't an issue. There are great paved paths and plenty of trails. My Husky found her way into quicksand-like silt by the Bay and immediately sank to her belly. She was where I couldn't run to save her fast enough, but a kind, quick thinking fisherman grabbed the handle in her harness and pulled her out. I didn't get to thank him as he went back to fishing and she ran to me (and safety). That was one example of the kindness of the people there. We'll go back (when it's bath time ;))

I'm not a dog person. I prefer cats. But I have a granddog which my daughter in law and I took the PointIsabel. It's an off-leash playground for dogs and boy, do they love it! I thoroughly enjoyed walking around the shoreline with my granddog and seeing her interact with all the other dogs. It's interesting how dog owners trust their dogs around others. Nobody seemed to be afraid of the big dogs rushing towards them or their little pups to play. There's a dog wash right in the area for those who want their doggies cleaned up from swim in the bay or a roll in the mud, before jumping back in their cars. And theres a little café with outdoor seating for the humans to grab a drink or a bite to eat. It really is an amazing place to take your dogs, or just to go yourself without a pet to enjoy the joyful exchange between all the animals and the beautiful setting.

    Mocha enjoying the water!

So much fun! Took my dog and she had a blast. I really liked how they had a dog wash & a little cafe right next to it. Enjoyed a little coffee meanwhile she was getting washed. Definitely will be coming back!

Looks like low tide out there.

I'm here around 3x/week with my rescue pup. It's truly my happy place. AVOID on weekends because that's when the muggles come out and the parking lot overflows.

it's been picked over the years, finding these colors and pieces with markings took an hour. left it all at the beach.

Somewhere at Point Isabel is a small beach completely covered in SMASHED CERAMICS from Tepco. At a certain area you will be walking on broken plates, cups, etc... If you find this area you found the old illegal dumping ground for Tepco manufacturing defects. Tepco made thick ceramic dinnerware that was common in diners and restaurants in the 50s. Local Bay Area restaurants like Louie's Restaurant Club, Doggie Diner and Spenger's Fish Grotto had customized plates. The U.S. Army and Navy used full sets of TEPCO in their mess halls and on their ships. It's unfortunately been picked so it took an hour just to find a couple pieces with legible markings on it, we left these at the beach and recommend you do the same or there will be nothing there for others. We saw some people fishing here and we also saw a group of people arrive with large 5-gallon buckets :( This is much less known than fort bragg glass beach. It's ugly in a lot of ways and not beautiful but I can't think of anywhere else on the planet with this unique combo of rock, smashed ceramics, and water.

A great places for dogs and people. We got a great sunny day. The view of SF is splendid. The dogs were so happy to be out. There is a nice walking path and a few picnic tables.

Point Isabel is a wonderful spot to take your dog, see a gazillion other cute dogs romp around and have fun, and even go without a dog to enjoy the walk, views, and fresh air. This place is vast and has tons of area for your doggy to run around, off leash. Apparently there is more than 30 acres of land the dogs can explore off-leash. Most of the dogs there are well-behaved and I barely saw any fights or confrontations amongst the dogs. Your dog will get muddy and dirty. But, have no fear because Mudpuppy's is there to give your dog a fresh wash with green tea shampoo and friendly service. And let's not forget about the views! These BEAUTIFUL views overlook the Golden Gate Bridge, the City, Marin County, and Brooks Island. There is so much to see. Going at sunset allows for really stellar views as well as the sun turns the sky orange and makes the Bay look absolutely stunning. I highly, highly recommend visiting Point Isabel. You will not be disappointed!

I used the picnic table to sample snacks

After buying some large bags of snacks from Costco, I decided I wanted to taste them. Instead of staying in the Costco parking lot (which is very crowded, and if you sit in your car, people driving by may want your parking spot). The parking lot at Point Isabel offers more views of nature. There are a few picnic tables available (I used them to sample snacks that I got at Costco). I found the restrooms quite roomy, skylights provided natural light, and there are flush toilets). There are views of San Francisco, and the Golden Gate Bridge. If you bring your pooch, there are doggie drinking fountains available. If you want to meditate, lots of places for sitting or walking meditation. Also, if you like to bike, there are bike paths. Bathroom is wheelchair accessible.

During this shelter-in-place phase of life, I'm revisiting old photos of places I loved to hang out at in the different cities I've lived in. Because I'm planning a massive road trip when this is all over to go visit those places and to visit my dear friends and family that live there. And it's therapeutic to plan something to look forward to. Point Isabel is a large dog park along the water in Oakland. There are plenty of paths to walk alongside the water or under big trees. Dogs can play off leash. It's close enough to the city center that you can easily have a picnic here on your lunch break. There's also a food stand on site that offers decent breakfast and lunch options as well as coffee drinks or a chai tea latte that's not subpar. This place is a wonderful combo experience of peaceful and fun with friends.

It's Is a great entrance for a sweet park. This is one of the largest dog parks in the United States.

Has it been pretty empty or crowded during covid? Looking to get my dog some exercise but worried about social distancing.

Not crowded at all. Lots of space and area to avoid close contact with people and most dogs. You can take the paved trail or walk through the grass.

Is the park lit at night?

    Unfortunately not.

Are there water stations for dogs to drink?

Yes, they have water people and dog water fountains in couple locations by parking lots.

    Is there an enclosed space?

There are gates placed up around certain areas but it is mostly an open space area.

What are the rules when it comes to dogs swimming/going into the water?

One dog on the diving board at a time. No floaties in the deep end. I go there all the time, but I… Read more

    Is this park fenced-in?

"Ok, my little darling. Let's go hike with the cows." "Can I pet the cows??" "No. Don't touch the cows. Remember that time I tried to pet one of the cows and it almost ran all over me?" Plenty of car parking. No bathrooms. Spectacular views! Latch the gate after you go through so the cows don't get out. Don't pet the cows. Although I've historically preferred hiking in Tilden Park, I usually park in Wildcat Canyon,…read morebecause it's closer to me, and because I essentially consider Tilden and Wildcat to be the same park. Wildcat Canyon and Tilden Park sit right next to each other, and are connected by Wildcat Gorge Trail. Tilden is easier to access from the Bay side, while Wildcat is easier to access from Sacramento. Overall, Tilden is more oriented towards small children, while Wildcat is more oriented towards serious hikers and cyclists. The thing about Wildcat Canyon is, if you only hike Wildcat Gorge Trail, and don't take any of the hard trails up the mountains, then you will miss almost everything there is to see. All of the scenic views are up on top of Leonard's Trail, Mezue Trail, Havey Canyon Trail, etc. Most of these trails are located on the side of Wildcat that is closest to Tilden. Wildcat Gorge Trail itself is mostly boring and flat. It starts out as an abandoned paved road, which eventually gives way to a dirt road, a smaller gravel road, and then the trail to Tilden. The entire time I was hiking Wildcat Gorge Trail, I was having thoughts like, "This would have been so much better on a bike. There's not much to see." (Or, at least, nothing that couldn't have been seen in Tilden Park.) On the other hand, Mezue Trail, which is accessible through the park via Wildcat Gorge Trail, is one of the prettiest trails I've hiked in the area, and was so hard to hike that (combined with the rest of the day of hiking) it left me barely able to get out of bed the next morning. Technically, I didn't get to the top or finish Mezue trail (this time), but from a mile or so up, it felt like I could see the entire bay area. The views were comparable to Mission Peak. Since it was a clear day, I was even able to see the Golden Gate Bridge. The distance from the parking lot at Wildcat to the edge of Tilden is just over three miles. Technically, the space between them is "closed," but the closure is nothing more than a sign which literally everyone ignores. (Dozens of runners passed me on my way to Tilden, and I didn't see a single one of them turn around and run back the other way-- they all passed through the "closure.") Overall, I'm not the biggest fan of Wildcat Canyon itself, but love it for the free/easy parking and the trails that it leads to.
