I was originally introduced to Jody through a global trading program at a company I was working for in early 2011. Jody was hired to assess the program as well as assist us individually to offer support in a high stress, high expectations workplace. It was easy to work with Jody immediately upon sitting down with her, but I will say it helps to be open and have a willingness to improve. Jody has a unique ability to see deeper into what you are saying. She targets emotions or psychological drivers that have resulted in getting you to where you are, whether good or bad. No BS allowed. It is about identifying and addressing your blind spots and your limiting beliefs / perspectives, most of which I was never aware of or even beginning to contemplate. I attended two of Jody's workshops - both Accountability Mirror and Perceptual Lens training. Both workshops were incredibly eye opening and allowed me to self-reflect and self-assess as I hadn't in quite some time. I attended Jody Michael's Perceptual Lens workshop because my company was downsizing and phasing out my position. I was hoping to gain the focus and direction I needed to make the transition to a new job or independent consulting. In fact, my real problem was depression that I have struggled unsuccessfully to treat for decades. I had recently left my job after being very unsatisfied and had no idea what to do next, all I knew was that I needed a new career path. Whether it be in your career or just life in general, feeling lost is not fun, especially if the feeling has been building for a long while. It can be frustrating and draining not knowing what you really want in a career and just not having the tools to figure it out on your own. I finally had enough and decided to put any ego aside as I searched for outside help. After some research and meetings with several different coaches, I chose to work with Maura at Jody Michael. I don't regret it one bit. Maura is truly great at her job and an inspiration as well. She really takes every meeting very seriously while maintaining a positive, yet realistic demeanor. The questions and work that were required helped me to navigate what I really valued in a career, and she helped me evaluate many different avenues. The program compelled to not only look deeply at my current career, but any others that might be more fulfilling and why. Even on difficult days, where I was discouraged going into a meeting, I always left much better off and with a clearer plan going forward. I don't think I made it easy on her as I was juggling changes with my life and career, as well as the possibility of pursuing something entirely new, but she absolutely rolled with everything I threw at her and helped me find some direction that I would not have otherwise found. And again - she helps you to keep moving forward, which sounds simple enough, but in fact can be very difficult. Although my journey isn't over, I feel like I now have some solid footing and a lot of materials to look back on, and I know Maura will be there if I need to revisit anything. Also - the Highlands Ability Battery that was included I found very helpful, but you have to be able to accept what it's telling you and use it to your advantage. The important take away with the whole program is that you have to use the tools and put in the work, and you will get just as much out of it. Look - it's certainly an investment of money and time, but when it comes to navigating your life, I'm not sure what can be more important. You will waste much more time, energy, and happiness being stuck in neutral waiting to "find" yourself or your path. I tried that and it didn't happen, so I chose to take a big step and invest in my own well-being. Now the thought of figuring this out seems much less daunting and more importantly, I have some real momentum moving me forward that I don't think I was going to build on my own. Jody, Jody, Jody - where do I even begin! I could go on forever about her as she has had such an impact on me. More than any one individual has ever had - and from all the people I know and deal with and relate with, that is saying a lot!. I am so fortunate to have met Jody - I don't know where I'd be if I didn't. She really helped me "see things" different and navigate a slippery slope (in my mind only) regarding career change and family. She believed in me and made me more confident as a person to go out and get what I want. Jody takes a deep dive into your world if you are willing to let her in, and its important that you do so. I went to see Jody because I was soooo distraught in my career and my choices in life regarding career, and I was in a rut that was affecting how I was feeling day to day. It was a struggle to get through the day and I didn't know how to figure things out. My career depression was affecting my mood, my life, and my health. Jody called me personally at night after I reached out and we talked for awhile. I just felt comfortable with her because she was compassionate, empathetic, gave me examples that were similar to what I was feeling and going through, and right away I felt she was the one. Upon meeting her and after a few sessions, I knew she was the right choice for me. She is cool, fun, never judgmental, professional, enlightening, Zen-like, I just loved our sessions! I saw her for about 7 months and we did A LOT. I felt I needed a lot. First and foremost she helped me get my head right. Not that I had any serious issues, but I was seeing things the wrong way and from a negative perspective that began to impact my whole way of being. She introduced me to techniques to make me more aware of my thinking, and how my thinking affects EVERYTHING! I was stuck and action was hard for me. I knew that I wasn't getting anywhere and would often ruminate and get stuck in thought - thoughts of fear, doubt, anxiety. Jody gave me tactics and techniques to deal with this. Jody offers sooo much more than career counseling and / or coaching. Everything from career cheetah, to her library that is / was always available, to her workshops, she ALWAYS made herself available to me. There were times I would see how hard she was working and ask "how the heck to you do it - insanely long days, weekends too, keep up with the business", and she would answer, "because I love it". I loved her answer. It was what I wanted in life. She is an artist - and artists view their work as an extension of themselves. Its her life and her mission. I also loved her story too of how, why, when she got into this business. It just all felt close to me - like I knew her and was familiar with her (even tough we never met). She just had that way with me - put me at ease. I went into the process of wanting someone to say, "here, this is what you should do". But Jody doesn't do that - and I get it as she shouldn't - its on me. Once we talked in the initial first few sessions, it became apparent that I needed to work on my "operating system" (I love that) and change my beliefs. Once we did a lot of this and the focus and mindfulness really started to set in for me, the career stuff kicked in. She has so many techniques to discover what you want to do and why, and she talks you through the choices, but at the end of the day its YOUR choice. That's what was great - she makes you realize the power of the choices you have and that there are many options instead of the linear way of thinking when we just believe there are a couple choices. I see others mention the Accountability Mirror Workshop as one of her great offerings. I agree - I did this along with the coaching sessions and I thought this was fantastic. So many strong ideas and actions to implement. The process again makes you really take a hard look at your beliefs and how they affect ones behaviors, and then how to come up with new beliefs. That is still the one thing that really resonates with me - changing your beliefs - as your beliefs forge your actions. Its not easy, but again, Jody provides techniques that will make you a rockstar! Jody is THE Coach you need to see. She will push you when you need it, challenge you when you need it, but most of all she backs you and is rooting for you which I just loved. She is my friend and mentor and for those who think they can go at this alone, I say save the angst and reach out to Jody and the team. They are amazing! Even if you love your job and love your career track, there is still a ton that you are going to learn about how to be more successful in your day to day.
