However, some months later they began hounding me for payment as, surprise! they don't take my insurance after all...and that person who informed me that they did take my insurance in the first place doesn't work there anymore. And, I guess, they never knew her at all anyway. Just some stranger working there, apparently. Now, I had to go through all of the rigmarole of unlocking my medical spending account that was locked by Sage Dermatology for non payment- a payment issue that they caused! Give those turkeys a pass!

He answered every question I had. He advised how I should manage the dry eye symptoms I was having (also gave me some eye drop samples!). Dr. Robinson's bedside manner is very easygoing and pleasant, I felt lots of good energy. I did not feel like a number, I felt like a person that he cared for. Dr. Weber always takes her time to answer my numerous questions and never makes me feel like I'm just a number to them. Sometimes they can be booked up for several weeks (that's why I'm giving them a 4 instead of a 5, although it's not any fault of theirs that they're so popular!). My fiance has been going to Dr. Scatena for about the same time as I've gone to Dr. Weber, and he's had much more to be done over the years. Same with Weber, Dr. Scatena answers all of our questions every time we go in, she lets me sit in the room during his procedures, is incredibly patient with me worrying about him, and ultimately makes me feel much more relaxed about the whole thing. My fiance and I have only ever been in for investigating moles/freckles and the like, so I can't speak to their other dermatology services like skincare, but I would still recommend them to anyone looking for a first-class dermatologist in Boulder.

I went in wanting a doctor's professional advice on how to care for my aging skin and at best, just agreed with what I asked her about. It's like I didn't interest her as a patient. I'll go elsewhere from now on to an office with a doctor who is interested in actively examining a patient's skin and recommending a course of action/treatment, be it for maintenance or targeted issues. If none of that sounds like a problem to you, do know that when I asked her medical assistant a question about the serum being applied to my face for after-care, the assistant didn't know and had to read the label. Also, as far as front desk help goes, way too many assistants that you get bounced around with, taking payment and shuttling you through. The biggest issue for me, though, is the doctor's lack of care/interest/ability to recommend anything.

After my appointment in January, I was initially told I would not receive a bill. A few months later, my credit card was charged $28, which was not an issue. However, when the charge appeared on my bank card, it showed up as "Boulder Valley Dental Office" rather than Boulder Valley Dermatology. Because the charge name did not match the provider I visited, I reasonably believed it could be fraudulent and reported it to my bank. I later spoke with Flora in the billing department, who explained that they are aware of this issue and have been trying to resolve it for over a year. I was also told this problem primarily affects customers using certain banks. Unfortunately, despite the confusion being caused by the billing descriptor, I was still charged a late fee. My original balance was approximately $28, but I recently received a bill for $63 due to added fees. While I appreciate Flora's assistance during our phone conversation, I was ultimately told by her supervisor that I was responsible for paying the full amount, which I did. I truly like the medical staff and the care I receive here, but this situation felt unprofessional and unfair. At a minimum, patients should be proactively warned that charges may appear under a completely different business name to help avoid unnecessary fraud disputes and late fees. The professional thing to do here would be to give me those late fees back.

I want to update my review of Dr. Kirk, after receiving more care from two other ophthalmologists…read more Where Dr, Kirk first failed was in not listening to me, especially to my descriptions of symptoms. When I first told him about my blurry vision (Jan. '25), he said that it had to be from Dry Eye because that was the only thing that would come and go. I tried to explain that it wasn't on and off - but like looking through a cloud or fog, with patches of lightness and darkness and varying degrees of clarity. He interrupted my description (and wrote "blurriness comes and goes" in my chart). Dr. Kirk did diagnoses of Glaucoma and Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO). He treated the glaucoma with some (though not lasting) success. He did not treat the CRVO, but recommended observation. And he continued to state that the blurriness was not due to either of those conditions, but solely due to Dry Eye, and that I should increase my use of lubricant eye drops. Now I have been to two other opthalmologists, the second one being a retina specialist. I have received more extensive diagnoses, including scans and pictures, and more extensive treatments. I have learned that Dr. KIrk erred in two ways: While he did diagnose CRVO, he deemed it only necessary to observe it. Not a good call. And he continued to tell me that my reduced vision was not related to the two conditions but solely to Dry Eye. THIS WAS NOT TRUE. While I continued to increase the lubricant drops at his recommendation, my vision continued to worsen. My new docs say that they will probably be able to stop that progression, but damage has been done that will not be entirely reversed. I repeat: Do not trust Dr. Kirk with your vision.

It has excellent docs IF and WHEN you can get an appointment to see one. The existing docs are tied up in more financially lucrative surgeries rather than maintaining a balance between surgery and eye exams for patients, despite having four locations in northern Colorado. I read the reviews and the management responds to bad reviews by leaving a note and asking reviewers to call the main phone number, which I am guessing is pretty useless but makes them look responsive to negative reviews. My family of five has been patients of this practice for over 20 years. However, the ability to schedule actual eye appointments in the past two years has gone down to almost zero. I had been seeing Dr. Mayer after my cataract surgery in 2021 and 2022, but last year, I experienced the beginnings of a macular hole in my right eye and could not get an appointment with him within six months. I was referred to a retinal specialist, Dr. Korotkin, who said my macular issue wasn't severe enough (October 2024) and dismissed me when I said I needed a new eyeglass prescription because "he didn't do that", like it was beneath him to spend another minute or two addressing or even empathizing with my concerns. I wasn't able to get an eye appointment with Dr. Mayer until March 2025 (they tried to put me off until May), and he immediately noticed that I actually had a severe macular hole. I then scheduled a visit with Dr. Gange (never going back to Korotkin), who I was able to see within a week, and had eye surgery within a week. Dr. Mayer suggested that I schedule an eye exam with whomever was available, so as I still needed a new pair of eyeglasses, I scheduled an eye exam with Dr. Poznic for August. I got a voicemail on Tuesday June 10th that he was not available that day but there were plenty of appointments the following week. I called later in the afternoon and the earliest I could get in would be October. So despite having 23 doctors on staff, there is not a single doctor who could give an eye exam at any of the four locations before October. I tried to leave voicemail for the person who canceled my appointment, but her voicemail said it might take five days for her to return my call, and directed me to NOT call back and leave multiple voicemails. It's unconscionable to cancel existing appointments and not immediately reschedule, then follow up with the patients who lost their spots. They should be prioritized on a waitlist, but none was available. In short, I have a follow-up for my macular hole repair in July but I will not be returning to the practice for any other services.

Inconsistent, unprofessional, oddly expensive. Since this involves something as important as…read moresight, I highly recommend getting eye exams elsewhere. There are much better options who do not try to cycle through as many patients as possible to generate revenue. In my opinion, their priority is making a buck; not improving your eyesight and eye health
