Great cuts on the cheap, done in no time! I know $23 seems pricey to some, but there aren't many cheaper options in Nashville unless you go to some strip mall chain hair place. Joe's is a real barber shop. He cuts hair and is damn good at it. No frills, and he gets you in and out very quickly! I'm always impressed how good it looks when I've been in a chair for 5 minutes! Thank you Joes Barbershop on Granny White (or Draper Jewelry, though I'm fairly confident it was Joe's) for making my life way more difficult than it had to be this morning. You can be sure that my family will no longer be giving you business... and might I suggest that if you plan on having people towed when your sign has fallen down, you temporarily display it in a way where someone pulling into the parking spot can see it.... or just don't tow until your sign has been fixed. If the sign was even there when I pulled my SUV in, it was obviously not in a visible position (see pics), and while I appreciate that after you saw me taking pictures you moved it to face the street side instead, it is still on the ground and I wouldn't be surprised if more people today miss it. I'd like to note that at 8:45 AM your parking lot was half empty. The book store and Copper Kettle were not even close to being open yet, and your customers were clearly not hurting for parking spots. I could have parked across the street in an open spot, but being that I had my 4-year-old daughter with me, I chose what I thought to be the safer route. I would also like to point out that the other spots that had signs also had yellow poles holding them up.... and plenty of spots had no signs and no poles. When pulling into your lot, I saw this spot as one having no sign and no pole. It was not until I came out and realized my car was no longer there that I saw your sign on that spot upside down on the ground facing your storefront. I can only assume you were sitting there waiting for someone to park there since my time with my friend at The Well lasted under an hour and when I called the tow company, which is located all the way off Briley Pkwy, my car was already there... not still en route. Not good business, my friend, and not a kind thing to do. Aside from the unnecessary expense you are costing me, and the possibility of damage to my car, you have complicated my day to no end as I can't just uber over to Briley to get my car since I have a child who still needs a car seat, which is in my car. You are heartless and I will forever encourage my friends and acquaintances to take their business elsewhere. read more

I just happened to be staying in Nashville for the weekend & was about a month over due for a haircut. Living in a remote area good barbers are hard to find so I figured why not get it taken care of in a more densely populated area like Nashville where I knew there would be an abundance of barbershops. I tried 4 different barbershops to be told they were appointment only before stumbling on Joes. I waited in the parking lot until they opened and Joe (the owner) took me in right away. Communication was excellent. I told him what I wanted and he triple checked to make sure. I'm in the military however I like my hair longer on top so I get the sides clean with a nice fade & keep some natural flow on the top. The haircut took 10 minutes, yes 10 minutes for a fade and trim on the top. I was eery when he said it was done so fast. The haircut was incredible. If your looking for an old school fade or gentleman's cut this is the place. When I first sat down I told him how I had stopped by 4 other places but they were appointment only, he said "those kind aren't barbers they're beauticians". Then I started thinking about all of the different barbers I had been to having traveling so much over the years and he could not have been more accurate with that statement. This place is fine if you're a regular dude who likes to get a regular old buzz-cut. Joe is a great guy and means really well... but if you're like me and have gotten used to having a professional, fairly sophisticated $30-$50 haircut that looks as good the day its done as well as two months later this place is not for you. I was amazed to be "all done" about 6 minutes after I sat down to get my mid-length, wavy/messy hair cut into something more presentable. I paid my $17 and headed home to finished cutting the long hair left sticking out around my ears and the random long ones hanging down in my face. I hate to give this place a bad review, because its locally owned and Joe is rad, but you should stay away of you want anything remotely sophisticated done with your hair. Sorry Joe! read more

I've been 3 times now and i was almost reluctant to go back after my initial visit. I first went on a weekend and got a cut by a gentlemen other than Joe. I was happy enough with the haircut, but nothing too out of the ordinary, especially after having to wait around for a bit. I decided to give the place another shot and went on a weekday afternoon and got my hair cut by Joe. This guy really knows what he's doing with clippers, no scissors involved here. I've usually gotten my haircut with a straight razor, but Joe does a damn fine job with clippers. i always opt for the straight razor neck shave as opposed to the machine. I've since been back twice and I'm in and out within 15 minutes. And the best part about getting a haircut at Joe's is that you can go across the street to Dulce Desserts and get a killer brownie. $15 bucks gets you a cut, $25 for shave, and don't ask Joe to color your hair. read more

Solid, well-deserved 5 stars. Finding a barber (or a hairstylist, as some prefers to be called) is one of the more daunting tasks upon moving to a new city. I am a fan of all the retail development in Villa Place. I stopped in to Joe's one time for a haircut and was pleased. I definitely don't have many style requirements, hair wise. Something close to a high and tight works for me. Even then, though, it can be a bit dicey going to a different barber. Yes, ladies, it makes a difference for us as well. Joe got it just right. He also was a friendly guy. I didn't have to wait which was nice since at my normal barber shop there is always a line. Always. If I remember correctly, he takes credit cards which is good news. There's some things I don't understand about Nashville ever since I came here. The first is left turns. I've been in less danger walking through South Central at night alone with two shiny Apple Store bags filled with medium sized "He spent the big bucks" boxes and no free hands to defend myself/call the cops/karate chop than I am here in Nashville turning left at various populated streets near Vanderbilt or West End. The second is how much people pay for hair cuts. $23 is not "cheap", by any means. If you want to give this place 4 or 5 stars for being a great cut or having a good atmosphere or because you like the owner, that's great. I even applaud it. But designating a business as "cheap", is not something you do because you like them and feel like their work surpasses the fee of entry. You designated a business as cheap when the price is on the lower scale for what people expect to pay for that service or product. For example, I can say Dunkin' Donuts is one $ sign and three stars because their coffee is in fact, cheap, and also rather mediocre. I feel lied to when I find this business after filtering one $ sign because I'm looking for a cheap cut, and finding out that I could go to the movies, see Mission Impossible in IMAX with 3D glasses and buy a large Coke for the same price I pay for a haircut here... Before tip. Maybe Joe's is a great place to get a haircut. Maybe it isn't. But I wasn't looking for a $23 haircut when I found Joe's in the list, which takes away from the places that truly deserve the one $ sign. read more

Had my hair cut here once a long time ago. Nothing wrong with it but nothing special either, especially for the price. The other morning I was at the coffee shop next door and Joe called and had my car towed. I parked there at 7:30 that morning when he wasn't even open yet. Time got away from me and a few minutes after 9:00 is when he towed me. Could have stuck his head in the coffee shop and asked me to move it. I would have apologized to him for the inconvenience and moved my car out of his spot ASAP. Instead, it cost me $155 and the trouble of getting my car back. When I stuck my head in his shop to ask him about it he told me to leave immediately or he would call the cops on me. Now I will most certainly never give my business. With a little searching, you'll find this old school shop with three barber chairs and six seats for those waiting. It only took 35 minutes for the seven guys to get groomed before me. Joe flys when he's buzzing or scissoring. He's chatty and warm, but he's focused on cutting. It's great that he can cut and talk at the same time. I stopped in for a beard trim. Sloppy haircut. Just went in for a buzz and neck hair trim and the results were uneven and spotty. He went extremely fast which I don't have a problem but which probably explained the poor results; especially the razor burn on my neck. Also, a buzz cut is the same cost as a normal haircut, other barbershops give a discount. Would not recommend. read more

I checked this place out after hearing from a couple friends that had been, but unfortunately it was extremely sloppy. I was very nervous to look in the mirror after my cut was "done" 3 minutes after hitting the seat... and sure enough it looked like it was a 3 minute haircut. I asked him to go back and correct some spots where there was obvious inconsistencies which helped a bit but even after that it was not a sharp cut at all. And yes there are random long hairs sticking out all over my head that I will have to go and cut individually myself. I could have done the whole cut myself... If you are just in need of a buzz cut same length all over, sure why not. If looking for anything beyond a sheep shearer, no. read more

So I don't really believe in leaving bad reviews. The owner was biker type guy and was cool. He didn't seem to care about the quality of his work. A $24 haircut felt more like a free prison haircut. No straight razor or razor of any kind except in the neck. I found hella stray hairs his clippers missed once I arrived home and it felt VERY RUSHED. Like here it is... pay me and see ya! Not bad for a quick expensive cut with ZERO FRILLS. Don't expect to be lined up or edged up by this shop it's not happening. I'd suggest new clippers or spending longer amount of time brushing off the excess hair to see if there are strays are. Just a thought. Nice shop Nice Guy. Shitty cut. read more

Nice guy, but I was disappointed with my cut. I said 'just clean it up and clip the ends; I like the length n wanna keep it as is'. I came out lookin as if I'd joined the Marines. To add insult to an injured ego - the cut was 17 bucks. I've gotten much, much better at Supercuts. Sorry Joe. read more
