My son went to get a haircut yesterday. He had an appointment and was on time. A coworker highly recommended the Moose (we are from Texas so trying to find / discover a new place is a real treat), he even made an appointment for him. Such a shame.... my son said the facility is real nice and close to his high rise. He walked in and not one person acknowledged or said a single word to him. He asked where to check in and they just pointed for him to have a seat. Five minutes later another customer walked in he was acknowledged and greeted and taken back immediately. My son waited for a long time. When the barber finally came to get him, no greeting or acknowledgment from him what so ever. The year is 2026 correct or did we go back in time? A statement on your website says "no BS" well I beg to differ. My son has never felt more uncomfortable or alienated before. It was a crash course for him about what you need to "look like" in order to get service. We are from Texas so southern hospitality is a main staple in our households. Short and sweet review to shout out the team at The Moose! My husband has been coming here for almost two years, and finally feels like he has a barber who understands how to cut his hair. Savannah consistently takes great care of him. I've even tagged along once or twice while we were out running errands, and the vibes inside are rustic and cool. The location is basically just a little house on Music Row, and the decor is all on-point with the outdoorsy, moose theme. There's even free street parking, which is such a rarity in Nashville these days that it's worth calling out. I did not have a good experience but the owner is a good guy and made it right and that is why I gave 3 stars and not 1. So I just moved to Nashville and I am looking for a new barber and I found this place and I was really excited to try this place out. Unfortunately I did not get a good haircut or bread trim. My appt was at 345 and I showed up early. Her appt before me ran 20 mins late. And she rushed through my hair cut and beard. One thing I was really looking forward to was the scalp massage and hair wash. She literally got my hair wet put and little soap and then rinsed my hair. It was maybe a minute long. The water wasn't even warm. You could tell she was trying to get me out. My beard wasn't lined up correctly and the razor shave was really poorly done. My neck was not smooth. I currently am recovering from a total shoulder replacement so I go to the barber to keep my beard clean and nice so when she almost ruined my beard that was really annoying. The owner fit me the next day to fix her mistakes which was great and I am sure this is a great place and I just caught her on a bad day and I am not gonna say her name but I don't know if I'll be back. read more

I had such a great experience at The Moose. I was on a work trip from out of town and really needed a cut. I didn't have an appointment but they were able to get me in as a walk-in. Tami Lee was my barber. She was great to talk to, worked with me on what I wanted for my hair(High fade, slight trim on longer hair up top, and hair shampoo). The vibe in the waiting area was awesome, with tons of instruments and cool things to look at. I couldn't recommend the place more. read more

Worth every penny! This place is top notch and Johnny is the best craftsman I've experienced so far in my 30+ years of getting my hairs cut. I have to be honest I was a bit hesitant going here for my first time. This is usually the case when finding a new barber or hairstylist. It's similar to finding a good mechanic. When you find a good one you want have them for life and tell everyone about your new secret weapon. Beyond trying out someone and somewhere new, I also had some reservations because the higher price point and the fact that I was getting my beard trimmed up (which I've been growing for 7 months now). I was looking for someone who would ask the right questions, personalize their approach, and not just give the same hair cut,trim or, hack job that they give everyone else. I decided to book with Johnny because I figured I'd be in good hands when i saw that he was rocking a beard as well ( have you seen it? Well done good sir!) The great communication started with the online booking where I was prompted with a question and given the opportunity to share note with my barber. I thought to myself, well, "I'll give this a go but they probably don't even read them." I was wrong. Upon meeting Johnny and sitting in his chair, he addressed my comments immediately and i was immediately set at ease. I could go on and on about all the little and important details of my experience but I've rambled enough. Johnny is the real deal. The moose is top notch. Overrated, overpriced, no client value. Below is an e-mail I sent April, owner, and stylist that I saw this past week. I should make note that I have not received a response from her; however, the salon later contacted me (via text) for feedback. From that, I also have not received a response. In my e-mail to April, I mention leaving the salon with a wet head. I'll post a picture for reference. I'll say that if I were an owner/stylist, I would be embarrassed to let my client leave in the shape I left The Moose. E-mail to April: April, You cut my hair just a little while ago. I was so excited to try out The Moose, but sad to say that I left very disappointed. I didn't realize it until I left, but my hair was still so wet that it was dripping down onto my shirt, leaving a stain from the product you used in my hair. You seemed quiet and reserved in the moment, but looking back, I don't feel as though I was valued as a client. My visit was extremely rushed and impersonal. The Shave That Time Forgot -or- Don't 'Sweeney Todd' me!! I called around 11:30AM to make an appointment for a classic straight razor shave, they set me up with an appointment at 1:00PM that day (Wednesday 8/12/15). The area in which the place is located doesn't really do justice to the business itself. So don't judge the business by the area. If you park out behind the business make sure to park on the LEFT side. The right side is reserved for another business, and they (the other businesses) will not hesitate to have you towed. Walking in you feel like you have stepped back in time, in the best way. After telling them my name and that I had an appointment, they pointed to the wall behind the front desk which had a list of various high end whisk(e)ys, and asked "What would you like?". Almost immediately after sitting down in a comfortable leather chair I was handed my glass of Gentleman Jack on the rocks. (They do also have water, beer and, I believe, soda) I waited for only a few minutes before my barber (Kevin) introduced himself. Very nice guy, very cordial. Just the right amount of pleasant conversation. The shave itself was nothing short of excellent. For those who have never experienced a classic straight razor shave, its less of a service and more of a full blown experience. From the lemon essence, hot lathered shaving cream and hot towels, to the bracing burn (or no burn, YOUR CHOICE!) of the aftershave and refreshing ice cold towels, everything works together and builds each layer of the experience upon itself to give you a shave that you will never forget. While the price ($65 plus tip) makes this more of a special occasion treat than a regular thing, it is more than worth the price. As I was walking back to the counter to pay I saw the resident chocolate lab (Titan) walking around like he owns the place and without a care in the world. While I cannot comment on the other services offered at The Moose, I CAN say that if they are even close to the level of service and quality that I received, then you owe it to yourself to visit. You will not be disappointed. P.S. While I was in the middle of writing this review I received a text message from the business thanking me for my business and asking if all was well with my appointment yesterday. It's not hard to explain what to like about The Moose. They are a high end barber, they cater exclusively to men, all the barbers are gorgeous women, they have leather chairs in their lounge, they offer you a complimentary adult beverage, they have a cigar lounge and poker room, every barber chair has its own tv, and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting! I've been a client of Laural Deh since I first sat in get chair. If you're like me then finding "that barber" is important to you. I'll miss her when I leave Nashville. Do yourself a favor and spend the $$$ and go here at least once. read more

Visiting from out of town, and needed a hair cut. Very cool location and space, very inviting and comfortable. Staff was super friendly, and I saw Eric for my haircut. He was so, so nice, but am giving my visit 2 stars because well...he simply didn't listen to what I asked for. I went in and asked for a skin fade. This is want I got. I suppose if I lived in Nashville I'd try this place again potentially, because I really wanted a good experience. Instead, I'm leaving disappointed and paid $50 for a cut that looks like how my hair normally looks after 3-4 days of growth. He did style the top great though, and gave me helpful tips for achieving more volume for my pomp. Overall--an okay visit but not what I was hoping for. read more

Then she took me to meet Eric the Barber, I showed him a picture of what I wanted, and he took it from there! We had a great conversation, and when he was all finished, I can say that he listened to every detail I wanted and executed perfectly! Wow What a place. Don't think I've been as relaxed as I was after my first straight edge shave. This is a real gem in Nashville. But you must book in advance as it's cozy and busy with regulars. My boyfriend has been on the hunt for an awesome haircut and I saw the great reviews so he decided to give it a try. I was a little skeptical at first, because of the heavy emphasis on drinks. My fear was that the focus would be too much on beverages and not enough on a quality haircut but I was wrong. Upon arrival you are asked what you would like to drink. The waiting room is very cozy almost like a living room or man cave feel. Kevin was his stylist/barber. Usually I'm the hair consultant but we liked Kevin's hair so we went with that. I was greeted as i walked in and offered an adult beverage of my choice. I chose an amber ale. Sat down for a few minutes as i was a bit early for my appointment. Eric was my barber and he called me and we began. He sat me down in the chair and asked me what i was looking to be done with my hair. After that it was hot towel and shampoo time. I have been having my hair cut at Moosehead by April for close to a year and I really like the way she cuts my hair and offers tips on taking care of my hair between trips. With other barbers, I always had an issue where the hair on the side of my head would not lay down flat. Now I do not have that problem; April does a great job. Moosehead does not smell or look like a typical salon and it is geared for the men folk. HD TVs and satellite TV all tuned to sports or whatever you want to watch. Plus, your choice of drinks. They offer other services I have yet to try; one being smoking cigars. Moosehead is located conveniently near Vanderbilt on Music Row with parking on 17th Ave S or behind the building. If you are not happy with the rush-rush of your typical barber shop and you want to be spoiled a little, you should try Moosehead. Finally, I would suggest making an appointment. read more

I called and made an appointment on Friday morning and Rebecca had an opening. Boy did I hit the jackpot with her!!! Absolutely terrific haircut and a really nice person to say the least! By far one of the most unique, upscale men's haircutting establishments I've visited. I stopped in traveling for work and it's truly an experience. It's a residence, that's been re-purposed beautifully for an amazing experience. Move over ladies, the men are coming in to be pampered! The entire process lasted nearly an hour, and I left feeling that (a) I received a great value and (b) refreshed and groomed impeccably. Ambiance: this place has a lot of it. It features leather, overstuffed chairs, dark wood flooring, a humidor stocked with cigars, several televisions tuned into ESPN and a moose with a clever necktie. An Abercrombie-catalogue-like, masculine spa. Most salient, the haircut is amazing. Two shampoos, a scalp massage with mint tree-oil, and a straight edge razor for pesky neck hair. Pampered experience. If there was a 4.5 stars, this place would merit it. As I said prior, however, it's very hard to find. It's located in a converted apartment-complex, with several other hairstylists; several signs adorn the building, but the Moosehead is the least-likely to be noticed; the door -which was closed - had but a single number (5), with no sign or "Moosehead lettering." For how much $$ they have manifestly put into the interior, I don't understand the lack of external advertising. Nonetheless, and as set forth above, the place is great.
