The gas is only 5-10 cents more than a pump-yo-self station too, so its worth getting my windows washed, my gas pumped and they take my payment. The service here is TERRIFIC! We were travelling up to Oregon from Eureka when my car began sputtering, running rough, and the check engine light came on. There aren't many places in this area of northern California to get mechanical help, so we pulled in to Joe's Chevron just before 5 pm and asked if they could scan our engine to see what was wrong. I didn't want to get stuck in the dark with a breakdown. At first, they apologized because they were just closing, but when I explained the situation, Domenic told me to pull over and he'd scan the engine for us to see what was wrong. When it turned out to be something with two coils and the Oxygen sensor, he told us he could fix the worst one right away, to avoid any further damage, and that although he didn't have the rest of the parts we should be able to make it to our destination. Domenic did a great job! The car runs much better, we know exactly what still needs to be done, and we really appreciated his willingness to help us even when he was trying to close. He really went above and beyond, and I'll be sure to use Joe's Chevron every time I'm up in Crescent City. We did make it to Portland without further incident, and the mechanic we saw there confirmed the diagnosis and replaced the remaining coil but suggested we wait a while to see if that fixed the O2 sensor. Joe's has been a long standing favorite in Crescent City. Rickey and the staff do a wonderful job of making sure all of their customers get the best service possible in town. As far as I know this is THE only real service station left in California! Yes, I said SERVICE STATION. They actually come outside regardless of the weather, with a smile and kind greeting. We happened by yesterday, Sunday; and were greeted outside by a young lady who pumped our gas and CLEANED front and back Windows (I think bugs off headlights too) at about 12:30 midday. She and inside staff all Smiles. We both got to use the dual bathrooms without waiting for each other, clean and well stocked, and were greeted and thanked as we left. My Grandfather had a station in the 50's & 60's and haven't had Service like that since then !!! Exceptional, can't compliment them enough. If I lived there, they'd have my Business exclusively ! Go see Dominic at Joe's Chevron if your diesel is having issues! This guys is the real deal. My friend and I were traveling through in our 1995 Ford E350 diesel van, on a camp trip, when she started having a really hard time accelerating up the grade out of town. After pulling the codes and replacing the vehicle speed sensor on our rear axle, and consulting with a transmission shop and an electric shop, we were referred to Dominic at Joe's Chevron, who agreed to take a look later in the day. We came back a couple hours later and Dominic jumped in our van with us and took her up the grade, hooked to his diagnostic computer. The issues were I intermittent, and the codes werent pulling consistently though they indicated transmission issues. Dom wasnt convinced, based on the evidence, that it was the tranny, so he persisted, did some research, drove her again - clearly he is very familiar with diesels and with electrical issues. Finally after some testing, research, lots of patient time spent, it turned out that the ground to one of our starter batteries was loose - a quick fix to an issue that seemed much much larger (even the computers were reading transmission issues). Dominic was very fair in his cost to us, and did everything with a good attitude and sweet smile, treating us professionally and respectfully. In short, this guy is the real deal - professional, expert diesel and electrical specialist, and a smart, grounded guy. Got my ac recharged, blew two compressor seals within two days.Took vehicle back was told the seal was leaking and a new compressor was needed because the seals could not be replaced.I told the service person to order whatever parts needed, I was assured they would do so and call me back .After two weeks I called Joe's seems they lost my number.They promised to get in touch, again,didn't happen. I finally went to another shop, They replaced 2 seals, recharged unit.. On the road in a few hours. It only cost me a little more than Joe's charged me originally. My family has dealt with Joe's since moving here over thirty years...If Joe were alive this would never have happened. Needless to say I will be trading else where. read more

We were visiting Redwood National Park and staying in Crescent City, CA when we started hearing some serious grinding coming from the rear axle of our vehicle. We called AAA and they suggested a mechanic but our lodge concierge recommended Joe's. We were not disappointed. The service was phenomenal. In 10 minutes they had diagnosed the problem and fixed it - a rear brake dust cover had come loose. Simple, easy and they didn't charge me $300 to repair something that wasn't broken.
