Fun & Clean spot for ice cream, What a joy to visit Joey's Custard and have a cold treat after dinner. The friendly staff were giving us multiple tastings with their unique flavors, we each took our perfect combination and enjoyed our ice cream utilizing the indoor seating. Our trip was too quick, the next time we're in Sanibel Island, we'll be stopping again to Joey's Custard.

This sweet tooth sanctuary has it all! Whether you're craving a midday treat or an epic dessert, Joey's Custard offers an array of sugary snacks for the whole family. Ice cream addicts with food allergies are in luck. During our stay on Sanibel Island, we ventured into JC after dinner one night during the pandemic. Both staff and customers followed social distancing and mask mandates accordingly. The line felt a tad long but friendly staff gave everyone their full attention, offering samples and helping make that big decision. I went with a traditional sundae with espresso chip ice cream. My partner in crime tried a milkshake topped with candied pecans. Babylon at first bite! One of the best ice cream shoppes I've visited while living in Florida. A must visit while vacationing on Sanibel Island. Thankfully the island has many walking trails to help with the poundage influx!

We visited Joey's for a second time on our latest visit to Sanibel and it seems they've gotten even better! Lines were consistent but we always felt safe and socially distanced. Our party had a wide range of desserts including smoothies and ice cream, and everything tasted great. I especially loved the bourbon pecan flavor and thought it was also neat that they used edible pasta straws for their smoothies. They provided masks and sanitizer for those clients who needed it, which was also very thoughtful. Overall, a great place to satisfy your sweet tooth! A must visit at Sanibel.

I'm always on a quest for dairy free ice cream wherever I am. I was so happy to hear that Joey's had a dairy free selection. When we arrived, I was super impressed with both the variety and the measures they take to avoid cross contamination with dairy - keeping it in a separate case! I landed on mocha chip and it was phenomenal! Alongside the ice cream, the atmosphere and the employees were also great! Everyone was so kind and we loved that they had games outside to play. Super fun place with delicious ice cream!

5+ stars!! Omg so good and HUGE portions! It was the perfect sweet treat after a fantastic day at the beach. I was really impressed with the quality. You can really taste the love put in :) I ordered pistachio ice cream with their signature vanilla custard and I couldn't get enough of it! The real flecks of vanilla bean were just beautiful to look at and even better to eat. Can not say enough good things. A must try!

This place is a wonderful treat stop for kiddos. It's colorful and has cute signs and a floor piano they can step on. The ice cream is not homemade but the custard is and it's delicious. I highly recommend if you have small children.

My 1800th review deserves to be Joey's Custard. I've been to Sanibel so many times and I can't believe this is the first time here. It's like being a little kid in a candy store. I love love love this place. There r so many frozen options for everyone. I picked the rum raisin which has a little bit of rum in it and it was so good and refreshing. But I couldn't make up my mind. It took forever. This is such a fun place to hang out too. I loved everything about it, and I will definitely make it a must stop when I'm back in Sanibel.

I tend to avoid ice cream because it upsets my stomach... but then I found ice cream worth being in pain over, and that was Joey's Custard. Oh my. The ice cream here is so freaking delicious and good and pure and lovely. My family returned here multiple times during our vacation, which we never tend to do because we like to try new places. I live across the country from Joey's and I still kept our free ice cream punch card because I know I will return one day. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was really cool to see Joey himself working and interacting with guests. And I was a big fan of the worship music! Overall, this place just rocks. It simply rocks.

A place like Sanibel needs a great place to grab a cool treat to take a break from the heat of the beach. Thankfully, on Tarpon Bay Rd there is a shop in the Bailey's shopping center that does just that. I am surprised I never found this spot, but we always went to an ice cream shop on the other end of Sanibel. With that closed and the heat intense, it was time to start a new tradition! I got the twisted vanilla and chocolate custard cone, while my fiancée got vanilla and key lime custard. All were rich and creamy and hit the spot on a hot summer day; I think the key lime was unique and very much worth getting another cone! We never got to try the ice cream flavors offered, including the exhausted parent flavor with bourbon, but they should be great to try if they do this well on custard! There's a reason this place averages 5 stars; it's that great for dessert! Try for yourself next time you're on Sanibel!

Amazing I had the tired parent in waffle cone fantastic!!!! Definitly something to check out if you want ice cream. Its also in great spot next to Bailey's general store and the movie theatre so on crummy day or the islands so crowded it better to stay in one place for a bit its a great location. Going to grab a movie, ice cream and possibly shop for food or other necessities is pretty nice. Not have to run over the whole island specially during traffic hours. read more

The place is so fantastic. It feels like home and their ice cream and other deserts are amazing! I would definitely recommend getting a desert waffle, they are huge and soo filling. The staff is very polite and helpful. In general, everything in Joey's Custand is always delightful, including their staff. The owner is very friendly and a people person. Delish ice cream/custard. You know this place is good given the long line. Concerning that in the new world of covid they didn't enforce the 6 ft distance among customers. There were quite a lot of people packed into this small place and only about 4 customers not including the staff were wearing masks. read more

While the custard was excellent, the hospitality by the manager (?) stunk. He wanted to close so that an activity of personal nature could start. We did not understand the entrance/exit signals and got attitude for that also. He obviously wanted to close shop for the day. The other staff were awesome! read more

Delicious ice cream! Peach ice cream was available and my companion enjoyed his cone with gusto! We asked for cafe con leche, and even though it was not on their menu, they were happy to make it happen for us. The shop is a delightful and comfortable "hang out" with tables and games and a conversation area furnished with a sofa and chair where we enjoyed our treats. A totally unexpected find was a selection of vintage candy - my favorite "real" red hots and several other seldom-seen confections a happy surprise. We didn't try the frozen yogurt (with many available toppings) or the frozen custard but if the ice cream we had was any indication, we definitely would try them next time. read more

We are so glad we stopped in at Joey's! Nice shop owned by a long-time Sanibel resident and his mother. Joey is very friendly and charismatic, not surprised he runs a thriving business. These are the types of businesses that make Sanibel such a special place. I had the Red Velvet Cake (from Bubble Room!)with vanilla custard, husb had the Swirled custard with chocolate covered pretzels and caramel. OMG! Never tasted anything like it, absolutely divine. We were also expecting to pay a lot more for the size we got. Do NOT go DQ while you are here, you have got to go to Joey's! read more

Love this place. So much to choose from! Lots of options from custard to sandwiches and breakfast! The custard is fantastic, the atmosphere is adorable and comfy. Pull up a couch or a bench and tag where you're from on the big ole map. Joey was very friendly and quick to answer all my goofy questions. We will be going back! read more

Compared to all other ice cream places on the island this is by far the best place. They have gf vegan options which are not just sorbet based and actually delicious. All my companions raved about the dairy ice cream so much we went back two nights in a row. The owner is also very down to earth and personable. Great place! read more

Staying on Sanibel Island for the week and my family stopped for lunch here. Got a great cuban sandwich and a milk shake. I was amazed at the selection of ice-cream, milk shakes, and coffee. Great family run business, they also have cake from the Bubble Room to mix in the ice-cream or shake! Overall a great experience and even got a chance to talk with the owners. read more

We went here practically every day. The waffles are the best! Custard is good but the clear winner was the freshly made Belgian waffle. Fav was waffle with banana and candied pecans. Kids demanded waffles for breakfast before our flight out. We will surely miss this place. read more

Try the bubble room based kings crown red velvet cake mixed custard. Better try the bubble room based scotch bonnet which is the orange crunch cake mixed into custard. These were excellent. Well worth a 3 mile bike ride and a very sore backside from the seat! Those that don't know, the Bubble Room is on Captiva and is a quite quirky little restaurant filled with kitschy decor and with spectacular cakes. read more

This seems to be the only place on the island that serves frozen custard. Custard is far superior to ice cream! Too bad Joey doesn't offer more than chocolate and vanilla custard. Many ice cream flavors are available. Joey's custard is overpriced and not as good as available in the civilized world, but Joey has a monopoly on a product that should be available everywhere. read more

Don't let the name fool you! There's more to this place than frozen custard! My family and I had just spent 45 minutes biking in the hot Sanibel summer sun when we stopped at Joey's Custard to have a late lunch. My daughter had read some great reviews and wanted to check it out. Joey himself was minding the store and he was very friendly and welcoming. The space was large and comfortable with inside and outside seating. We opted to sit inside because it felt like it was 150 degrees outside! There's also a nook off to the side with some comfy couches and chairs to hang out and drink coffee. This place offers frozen custard, hand scooped ice cream, soft serve ice cream, soft serve frozen yogurt, smoothies, panini sandwiches and coffee. Everything we had was delicious and hit the spot. My husband had a San-cap panini, my daughter and I shared the Caprese panini, and my younger daughter just had the panini bread toasted with a little butter. All the sandwiches are served with kettle-style potato chips. We followed it all with birthday cake ice cream, chocolate brownie ice cream and an affogato (espresso with vanilla ice cream). We all loved this place and highly recommend it!! read more

Moved to Sanibel in 1998. A family dedicated to service and very passionate about our customers. Debi (left) Joey (right). Debi handles all business end and behind the scenes, while day to day operations are run by Joey. With over 15 years experience in the industry and as a veteran of the US Army. Joey is passionate about the food and service industry, and giving back to the community. I just had to try the mimosa and despite not being a huge fan of white chocolate (usually hit or miss for me) their white chocolate was definitely a hit! I loved how creamy the chocolate was and while eating it you get a tang of an orange flavor. The Cherry Pie was interesting as it was extremely sweet but in a good way! The dark chocolate is delightfully rich. Lastly, was the Shot in The Dark Coffee Truffle. This was possibly my favorite. If you're a fan of coffee ice cream it tastes like that in a rich chocolate form! I know next time I'm buying more of those. The actual store is spacious and extremely clean and wonderfully organized. The chocolates here are delicious at great prices. I will be coming back for a bigger box next time.

So we ordered appetizers which probably would have been enough to feed us. But we also ordered entrees which included a salad, vegetables and a starch. Now definitely more than we needed. We ended up taking some home with us and made a meal of it a day or two later. The second time we went we knew better. So we only ordered an entree again with the salad, starch and vegetables. This was perfect. Jerzy was our first night server, and he was very energetic and helpful. Turns out he had just had a baby the night before, but we did not know that until we saw him the second evening. Our server the second evening was Mike. He was very frazzled due to a large crowd and not enough waitstaff. But he did a good job of taking care of us and even comped our dessert. This place has a very nautical theme. So fish on the wall and boating gear as well. The only negative was screaming baby. Why do people bring young babies to a place like this. Kind of wrecks the atmosphere for everyone else. Oh well.

She talked up the chocolate chip cookies and let me tell you, it was worth the hype. I am not sure what kind of chocolate they use, but it is delicious!! We also sampled the honey caramel chocolate piece for $1.50. Melt in your mouth yumminess. I would definitely stop if you have a sweet tooth. It's in a little strip mall, worth visiting. The shop itself is pretty simple, but the star of the show is the homemade ice cream. They offer an incredible selection of flavors, and there's truly something for everyone. I ordered the Brownie Batter and Gator Tracks, and while both were delicious, the Brownie Batter was my favorite. If you're a chocolate lover like I am, it's rich, decadent, and full of chocolate flavor. We also tried one of the sorbets, which was good, but it didn't stand out quite as much as the ice cream. The only suggestion I'd have is to include descriptions next to each flavor on the menu board. With so many unique options, almost every customer ahead of us had questions about what was in each flavor. The employees were incredibly knowledgeable and patiently answered every question, which was impressive considering how many flavors they offer. Having descriptions posted would help keep the line moving while making it a little easier to choose. One of my favorite touches was something completely unexpected. They have three-ring binders for each of the 50 states where visitors can sign their names and leave a note. Our group represented three different states, and the kids had so much fun finding our states and adding our names. It's such a simple idea, but it made the experience feel personal and memorable. Great homemade ice cream, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and fun little details that make you smile. It's easy to see why Love Boat is such a popular stop on Sanibel. We'll definitely be back the next time we're on the island.

They promised that this would be the best guacamole in the world, and it was. It was absolutely amazing. They also had a native plant garden to look at, which amazed me on which plants are native to here versus back home. They still had available parking space even though it was very very crowded. The paths were nice gravel and they even had sea shells in them to give them an extra tropical touch. As well as a LOT of palm trees. Good for people who want a tropical holiday feel.

Literally downloaded this app just to give a good review because this place is absolutely amazing! When you walk in it's not you don't feel crowded or rushed, very comfortable setting. Now to the food which is equally amazing! They serve paninis with chips and they are very savory and filling. I also had one of their ice creams in he flavor "The Everything". All I have to say is that it is a very great place that I will definitely stop by next time I am close. read more

This place is amazing. No competition. We like to call it the Dairy Queen killer, because there should be a Joey's Custard on every street corner in every city in every park of the world. Customer service has always been 5/5! Every flavor is unique and diffrent, with most house flavors having a perfect mix of sweet and creamy and some even have some salty flavors. A little family owned and operated business in the Bailey's Center. Serving ice cream, custard, frozen-yogurt, paninis, coffees, espressos, and more ! The staff is all local kids and they are very friendly. They offer free wi-fi and deals all over the island to help you save.
