Had a minor job installing 2 Rings, a shop light, 2 smoke detectors and a wafer light. I have all…read moreof the equipment except the smoke detectors and wafer light that were less than $100.00 at Home Depot. Their tech said it was a two or three hour job. They wanted to charge me over $1200. When I asked for an itemized break down of the job, they refused. I would be extremely wary of doing business with a company that won't provide a cost breakdown of their work. Here are the emails that went back and forth with Others Electric. ME: Can you provide an itemized quote for the work being done, including cost of labor? We already have all of the equipment except 2 smoke detectors and 1 wafer light, and all of the wiring is intact. No new wiring needs to be run. Thanks. ALYSSA: Thank you for reaching out. The total price for the scope of work is $1,229.00. This reflects the full scope of labor, materials, NEC requirements, scheduling, and warranty provided, regardless of existing equipment or wiring. At this time, we do not provide further itemized breakdowns beyond the quoted total. The pricing is based on the work as a whole and the standards we follow to ensure the job is completed safely and in compliance. Please let us know if you'd like to move forward or if you have any other general questions. Best regards, Alyssa Kaplan ME: I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but an UNitemized estimate is not an itemized estimate. Your material cost is minimal, as I stated and you have the CHutzpah to tell me you charge for CODE COMPLIANCE? That's hysterical. You charge for SCHEDULING? The only reason NOT to offer a line by line itemized estimate, is you're trying to screw us over. Shame. I can only hope your karma catches up to you. ALYSSA: We're going to stop the conversation here. The estimate provided reflects our standard pricing structure and the scope of work requested. We are transparent about how we price our projects, and that structure is clearly communicated upfront. We do not provide further labor or internal cost breakdowns beyond what is shown on the quote. Code compliance, scheduling, liability coverage, and warranty are not add-ons, they are baseline requirements of operating a licensed, insured electrical contracting business and are built into every project we take on. It's clear our pricing model and service standards are not aligned with what you're looking for, and that's okay. We respect your decision to move in a different direction. Alyssa Kaplan ME: So, let's try this: What is the actual cost of code compliance? You must know, if you factored it into the cost. What is the cost of scheduling? You must know, if you factored it into the cost. What is the cost of liability coverage? You must know if you factored it into the cost. What is the cost of the warranty? You musy know if you factored it into the cost. Sounds much more likely that you've been gouging people on the labor costs, and Athat you are starting to believe your own BS. Enjoy the Yelp review. ALYSSA: At this point, the tone of this exchange is no longer productive or professional. We've clearly explained our pricing structure and our position has not changed. We will not be engaging in further discussion or debate regarding internal costs or labor rates. ME: Well, you're certainly not professional. That's about the only honest thing you've said.
