I've been dealing with this business for over 12 years 2 Mercedes and an X6 BMW. Oil changes , brakes minor oil leaks- I've always felt like they were very fair and upfront with my options. When I've needed repairs some has always called me and explained what was going on with my vehicle and told me what was most urgent to address. I've been driving around with a dark running light for a week, the day after holiday was the only time I had to stop by. Needing a new front wiper motor on an older Audi and the dealer wanting $1400 ($800 for part shipped from Germany and a ridiculous $600 for installation), I looked for other options. Enter John Holger. Dustin suggested that I look at car-part.com to find a used part, as these parts are rare to find new in the US. I found a part near Ann Arbor for $100, and a week later Dustin installed the part for much less than $600 that dealer wanted. We are fortunate to have this shop in the neighborhood. Just because you own a Mercedes (or an Audi, Porsche or BMW), there is no rule that says you have to be willing to spend double on service at the dealership when you have experts a few miles away that are just as good - or better. Yes, the little espresso bar with wifi at the Mercedes dealership is nice. Yes, I would be afraid to drink Bob's coffee. Or sit in one of his chairs if I was wearing light colored pants. But I'd rather take all the money I save (as in 50% of what the Mercedes dealer charges for an oil change and incredibly reasonable labor rates) and do my drinking out of wine glasses with my friends - - in a nice restaurant, not a dealership. As for the method of leaving keys in the trunk for after-hours pick-up mentioned in an earlier review: don't worry. If this concerns you... they have other methods and are very willing to work with you. I've never had an issue around scheduling or pick up. What I have received there is prompt service, honesty (if they can't fix something - as was the case with a few minor electronic things - there is no charge), and a very reasonable bill. Always on time. And although I joke about the waiting room I honestly wouldn't hesitate to hang out there if need be, simply because they are genuinely nice people. I recently purchased a Mini Cooper and was so happy to find out that the same service center I used to take my Mercedes and BMWs to back in the 1980s was still in business! I took the MINI over to have it checked out overall. Chris, the owner/manager, was exceptionally accommodating. There must be something in the water in that building that breeds great customer service, as it still is just as great as it was thirty plus years ago. This place specializes in VW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, and BMW's. So, I've had our 97 BMW in to this place about 5 times now, and every time, the service is great. They almost always charge LESS than they quoted, and the work is very good. I only wish they were open later; they close at 5:30pm. Solution: they take my CC# over the phone, then lock the key in the trunk and park it outside, and I can pick it up after hours. Bob & Chris run the place, and it looks like a small mom-n-pop autoshop, but they do very good work, and charge MUCH LESS than a dealership would. They're not big on the warm-fuzzies and butt-kissing that you get at the dealership, but hey, you're paying for the mechanical work, not their social skills. Their website is a tribute to minimalism, the waiting room is dark and uninviting, and the coffee is horrible. But as long as they keep fixing my car so well, I'll keep coming back. They will stare at your car and call it diagnose and tell you they couldnt find the problem and will charge you 80$ for pretty much telling you '' well you are wrong, ur car is fine'' even tho ur the one who drives the car everyday and know there IS a problem. So my experience for the 5th time, these ppl are just lloking for a quick brake job or air filter replacement so they can charge ppl a lot and dont really do anything. Its like valvoline but worse, these people will tell you they rotated your tires and they prolly didnt do shit. If you want to get ripped off chose John and Holger. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. I took my 97 BMW 325i to them to have a major repair done. I left a 500$ deposit. They were a bit backed up, so I checked back in a few months to see what was the progress so far. They had not even started the job. They told me not to worry. This went on for almost two years. They eventually towed my vehicle to the police impound without contacting me to come pick it up. Saying that it was abandoned. How could it be abandoned when I left a deposit. They say they didn't know how to contact me. But I had to leave my information to actually drop the car off. I guess they expected me to pay the amount entirely ? But when making car repairs you pay when the job is completed. Which in this case never happened. I lost my car to impoundment and they never gave me back my $500 dollar deposit. A disaster of an experience. I will never do business with them again or recommend them. They are complete scam artist.! DO NOT PATRONIZE!!! read more

I took my Porsche there to get a New Clutch and an oil change. They replaced the clutch and told me to come pick it up. I picked it up and it chattered out of first gear and by the time I got home the Engine was smoking. I checked the oil and they did not put even half of the amount required. I called them back and they said bring it in. I brought it in and 2 months went by finally called them and they said they would get right on it. Picked it up and had the same problems. Brought it back a final time. This time they had it for 6 months and left it outside in the snow. They didn't fix ANYTHING. Chris is a crock of shit mechanic. I was very interested in buying a 2001 BMW X5, with all used cars you do your own inquires. I really thought that the person selling the car was on the up and up. Got the car from in ad in the GP classifieds. The seller always had an excuse not to show the CAR FAX.... The car was really beautiful, but I needed to know some important facts about the up keep, etc.. So I called John & Holger's on 10/19/16 spoke with Chris, he gave me so much information that as a WOMAN we need. The one piece of great advice was to have the private seller bring the BMW for a diagnostic testing before the purchase. Which was only $80 dollars, compared to what I would've spent if I bought the car not knowing exactly what I was getting. While after I spoke to the seller, real fast...." HE TOLD ME THAT MAYBE THE BMW WASN'T FOR ME". He was pushing the purchase so, so very hard. In addition Chris told me that there service was excellent, and well known in the car industry.*** IF THE SELLER WON'T BRING CAR IN FOR TESTING...
