I been going to Toyota for my service the last 5 years . My last experience I had with Toyota wasn't that great. The engine light came on , it was time for the 80k mile service. $169 was my quote . Yikes!!! I was told John was honest an will do better job than Toyota. I took my chance an ask if he can look at my brakes an if he can check everything . He assure me he was going check everything since I had a road trip to Vegas soon. He check everything call me an informed me I did not need brakes an recommend I get all the same four tires soon an explain your car will run smooth if you have all the same model an make of tires. He tells you before he start on your car what service your car needs . My service was only $60.17 I have never pay that for Toyota!!! Best Mechanic EVER: John Axt Automotive I took my 1991 ford explorer in to him and it drives like a champ now. I had several issues. First, my radiator fan had a broken blade, I had the part but it was stuck on the pulley and would not budge with the strength of two strapping young men (Eric Mahan and Brenton Henderson). Second, I had a power steering fluid leak I needed him to patch, but it turns out I fixed it myself when I put power steering fluid with stop leak action in it. Third, the motors to the driver and passenger windows were about as effective at rolling up a window as a pair of tube socks. Lastly, what I failed to mention to him but he informed me of, my brakes causing the vehicle to pull to the left when applied. Here's what he did/could do: 1. he applied penetrating lube (which he didn't charge me for) on the fan clutch in an attempt to free it from the death grip of the pulley after he realized it wasn't going anywhere without a little lube. 2. He told me how much the window motors were (60 each through a guy he bout the from) but informed me it would be cheaper to buy them online and they would be fairly easy to install myself as the track was not spring loaded and there was mostly bolts instead of rivets holding it in. I bought the motors online for 31 a piece, which saved me $60 and doing the labor myself (with Eric Mahan's close supervision) saved me another $281. 3. He found that my brakes were leaking fluid which may cause the car to pull to the left or right (Something I had forgotten to inform him of) and that the calipers and hoses were old and probably the cause of the leak. He replaced them but found that the Master Cylinder was original to the vehicle and half of it was not functional. Upon my approval he replaced it, only charging for the part, not the labor. :) He couldn't get the fan clutch to budge and told me it had seized up and could only be removed by being cut out. He gave me the card to the owner of a machine shop who he had called and found that the owner had run into this problem before. Overall I save about $400 dollars. I've gone to John before, he is personable and easy going but honest and hardworking. He won't swindle you like a lot of mechanics these days. I don't think I'll take my car or future cars to anyone else but him. So if you need to fix something on your car or find out what NEEDS fixed, you should take it to John Axt first. He'll tell you what needs to be fixed, he won't over charge you (in fact, he'll undercharge you) and if he can't fix it himself, he will refer you to somebody who can that he trusts.
