When I was the executive director of the Hotel Association, I used to recommend this county park to those seeking a campground (instead of a hotel or motel) in Fort Lauderdale. It is the closest one in the area to Fort Lauderdale Beach. And they offer "primitive" camping, i.e. in a tent, as well as RV/Camper camping plus all the related facilities. But it's been quite some time since I actually visited this park. Located just west of Powerline Road, you wouldn't have any idea that this 40 plus acre park exists unless you were looking for it. There is no entrance fee during the week, so we were able to come and explore for free. The driving road is one way in a big circle around the park. The park is packed with so much to see and do. For nature lovers, it is part of the Birding and Wildlife Trail. The woodland trail entrance starts from the road. It had been raining a lot recently. We decided it might be a bit muddy to walk as we hadn't come prepared to do so. There are lush green grass areas and shady trees in the main area of the park. For the sports enthusiast there is disc golf, volleyball, horseshoes, basketball, and shuffleboard. For the kids there are wide open areas to run around in and playgrounds. We know a family who lives locally who recently visited here one weekend for a mini vacation with their new RV and had a blast here. And one of our fellow yelp elites visits often for disc golf. It's a place that can be enjoyed by locals as well as tourists -- whether you're looking to relax or for recreation. We had a lovely leisurely visit here. When the weather is nice, it is a quiet and peaceful retreat from the traffic and city distractions. read more

One of the best disc golf courses in south Florida. I was at John Easterlin park again just last weekend. A group up to throw 18 holes. I arrived right at 8 when they opened. After checking in its a a small drive around the whole park to the parking for the 1st hole. I was there before the others so I was able to get some practice throws in on their practice hole first. once everyone was there we started the round. There is about 3 water holes, and they are all at the beginning. They arent hard though, it's really about going around the lake. We made it through there fine. after that its a mix of open field joles and others that go through the woods. Almost every hole is doable. I'm not good and I can par most of them. In fact I had 2 birdies that day. The whole course is well maintained. Nothing too fancy but it's taken care of. There are other amenities like a playground, camping, basketball court, and more. But the central attraction to me is the course. Oh, and they have a bonus 19th and 20th holes! Can't beat that. read more

We had taken one of our cats to nearby Blue Pearl for a procedure and had to fill some time while waiting for her to be ready to take home. Easterlin Park seemed like the perfect way to fill an hour on a beautiful spring day. It was a weekday, so there was no charge to enter the park (it's $1.50 per person on weekends and holidays). They have a disc golf course and a nature trail. We were interested in the nature trail, so after parking, we went into the park office to inquire about accessing the trail. My 5-star rating is for the park staff. We were assaulted (bombarded? deluged?) by friendliness! There were two park staff inside who could not have been more upbeat, happy, positive or helpful! Unfortunately, there had been some serious flooding and the nature trail was closed. The guys seemed genuinely upset that we wouldn't be able to enjoy a short nature stroll. They suggested an alternate park (which we didn't visit due to time constraints) and spent a few minutes laughing and joking with us. Honestly, I was a little worried and distracted with concern over my baby cat, and these guys just wiped that all away. Well done, Broward Parks! read more

Great park tons of shade and a disc golf course challenging because the trees. Dog friendly with a nice lake in the middle

I went to walk on the nature trail. The path is one way and doesn't loop around. When I got to the end of it, I walked back on the paved road. It took me through the camping area. The nature trail was a little more than 3/4 mile in length. It was very muddy in some sections. It is shaded. The path starts to the right of the visitor center. There was a pond in the middle of the park with very brown murky looking water. read more

For the disc golfer, Easterlin Park has plenty of variety for both long open shots, water hazards, and short game through the woods. A solid 4 star for south Florida. So Easterlin Park was the first disc golf park I ever went to when I first moved to south Florida. This south Florida 4 star for disc golf would be a 3 star if it wasn't for the marketplace. Namely, south Florida in general lacks a good solid foundation for disc golf courses aside from a couple of well known outliers. Easterlin opens up on hole 1 with an across the water shot which weaves back and forth into and out of the woods up until about hole 5. A couple of bold across the water shots and a few open terrain shots, Easterlin has no shortage of places where you can lose your disc in the water, woods, plants, or any of the wandering wildlife present at the park. Aside from the technical aspects of the course, it has a solid foundation. All of the holes have signage posted and each hole has one, if not two cemented pads for takeoff. All that said, the course itself could be a wee bit better maintained. Apart from disc golfing, the park is solid for families and sees a lot of traffic for parties, grill, and general festivities. A little shady part of the neighborhood before you get in, but once you arrive a great place to bring friends and the fam. 4/5 (rated for disc golf) because: 1: this place gets a star on handicap, mostly because south Florida has a shortage of good disc golf parks. 2: a good balance of challenge, ease, water traps, and general woodzieness ensures to keep you on your toes when throwing a disc, trying not to lose it. 3: the course itself has a good foundation, proper signage and tee off pads are cemented. 4: the park is in high use, telling that it is of value to the community. 0: losing a star here, because of general messiness of some parts of the park, and it's generally average feel. read more

I never even knew this county park existed until I passed a sign for it and decided to make a side trip to check it out. What I found was a 46.6 acre park with cypress trees, some of which are over 250 years old! Like other Broward County Parks there is a $1.50 admission charge on the weekends. There is a large lake in the center of the park with the road circling it. The park offers a playground, over 45 camping sites, basket ball court, volleyball, disc golf, a one mile woodland nature trail, picnic shelters, tables, and grills. The park is on the Great Florida Birding & Wildlife Trail so it offers refuge to many kinds of birds. Unfortunately it was pouring rain on my visit but I still managed to see many birds, lizards, and a really large iguana. The rain didn't seem to deter the wildlife or the disc golf players. I was surprised to find so much to do in a park I had never even heard about it. I plan to come back and spend some more time in the future. read more

We camped here for two nights. The campground is not well-maintained. The bathrooms are horrendous! There is a shelf above the sink that fell off in my hand when I went to put something on it. the big draw is Disc golf. I suppose if you're going there for that everything would be fine. Camping there sucked. The train is pretty loud and if you are in a tent would absolutely keep you up. read more

First of all this park is very calm, always clean, and has a nice location. Except for the fucking geese which have tried to attack my family and I on numerous occasions. Please be aware of these dangerous animals. And by the way the park rangers don't do anything about this situation. Better off not going. read more

Beautiful hidden park here in Oakland Park. This is a campground and it's also a great place for disc golf. There's shelters, volleyball, horseshoes, basketball court, playgrounds and shuffleboard. It's one of the few places in Fort Lauderdale that has a forest. It's great for photos and a nice picnic. We even brought our dog on a leash here to wander around and explore. read more

While the park may not be within the best area of Fort Lauderdale, and while the GPS may lead you astray (mine did, it took me to the Oakland Dog Park), the park looks huge (I was there at night, for what it's worth), there were plenty of lakes, some nature trails, camping sites, and disc golf. The main reason for coming was for the hayride and the s'mores. It was quite a schlep from Miami, and after spending nearly $7 for the northbound I-95 express lanes toll, you could say it probably was not worth it, considering I spent more money to get there than admission itself, but for some reason, no park in Miami offers such things. I wish Miami would get its act together and do so. There would be a higher park attendance, more interest and awareness of local parks, plus, a greater sense of community. Anyway, I had never been on a hayride, had never even touched hay, nor had I roasted marshmallows in my life, and truth be told, my daughter also wanted to experience these things. The hayrides at Easterlin were not labeled, making it difficult for a non-local to surmise where they started, so that is something they could improve on, as I found myself wandering around in the dark with my child trying to find out. I ended up having to do something I rarely do -- approach and address a bunch of people wandering around and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I eventually found out that you were supposed to check in and get a wristband at the place labeled "popcorn" -- as I said, things were a bit confusing -- and that the hay ride started in an adjacent parking lot. The volunteers helping people on and off the hayride were very talkative and friendly. They even walked me to my car at the end of the night. The hayrides were slow, so if you or your child are expecting to ride around at 45 mph or more, that isn't happening. They do last quite a bit, and you're free to take more than one. I was getting all worked up because the woman on the phone when I signed up had told me that the hayride started at 7 and would leave promptly, and while trying to figure out where to go, it was past 7. I thought we missed it, but in actuality, there are hayrides all night long. It was probably around 10, or later, when we got off the last one! There is a bonfire by the shelter burning for many hours, so you can roast your marshmallows for as long as you like. You can start roasting marshmallows and then get on the hayride, or you can first get on the hayride -- it's your choice. If you register and pay on the phone, this ensures your entrance on the hayride. You cannot purchase a hayride admission at the park, so it is important to call and do it over the phone, and the sooner the better. Once you pay over the phone, you get a baggie with a marshmallow, a chocolate Hershey's miniature bar, and two graham crackers to build your own s'more. It was fun! I think this would be a fun activity to do with kids (although believe it or not, there were more adults than kids on the hayrides), especially if you live in Broward. As I understand, there is more than one park doing this in Broward -- and zero in Miami...so if you're a Broward local, take advantage of these opportunities! Don't take them for granted! With the cooler, crisp weather, it makes for a fun way to end the week! read more

We camped at Easterlin park in December and were very pleased. This was a beautiful well maintained little park with full hook ups. If you are into disc golf this is the place! Everyone was friendly and helpful. The only downside is that it is right next to the train tracks so you have to get used to some noise. We were exceptionally pleased to find a really cool city dog park across the street. We would definately go back. read more

A real jewel in the heart of Broward County, convenient to everything.Recent improvements have made the park better than ever. I stay in the RV park here whenever I'm in the area, they have about 40 RV spaces that are reasonably priced with full hook up. (Yes there are frequent trains on the nearby tracks)If you play disc golf they have a complete course for that, Nice lush vegetation, hiking trails,wildlife that includes birds,iguanas,alligators etc. There are plenty of picnic shelters and group sites, as well as special events. I have had issues from day one .. they told me I would have one spot .. only to get a different one. Even when we had hurricane Irma I ask for my spot back which was paid for and I did not get it .. almost every week they say one thing them ask me to move to accommodate others . When I ask Fiona why ..she threatened me by saying she will take it up with Kevin the manager that I should know on page 3 of my agreement that I can be ask to move on a dime or immediately .. when I ask her to tell me what that means she again tells me I should look for a different park. Apparently, you don't get what you pay for at Easterlin park or they can't tell you anything without being rude to me and saying it is I who are rude to even ask the questions. A pretty park for picnicking and day-use. Has disc golf course and a nice pond for walking around children's play area. If you are camping be prepared for small tight sites, low-hanging branches and noise from Planes Trains and Automobiles, sites to have picnic tables and fire rings. read more

One of my favorite places to clear my head and surround myself in greenery. The nature trail here is a great way to feel like you're in the forest even though you're surrounded by the Ft Lauderdale chaos. They have a beautiful lake where you can see turtles, swans and plenty of birds. Bring a tapestry and book and sit in the grass near by. It's so relaxing. Bring a volley ball or frisbee and spend an afternoon here for a quiet lunch. There's a fee on the weekends but who cares, it all goes into maintaining the parks beauty. Enjoy friends! read more

Camped here and glad we won't be coming back. Gooood luck with a big rig. My hubby can park on a dime and he was cursing me for picking this place. He yelled out the window "be sure and leave this a horrible yelp review!!!!!" So here I am. The camping hookups are really not intuitive - lol our sewer station was up hill from the pad. I mean really? Doesn't take a degree in physics to figure that one out. Anyway still give it two stars because the kids loved all the lizards... tons of em! I also liked the frisbee golf. Although we lost a disc in the water so if you're not a really really good disc golfer then don't do the water shots. Bathrooms were disgusting btw. Camping in back but there are regular trains, not a camper... This park is mainly a disc golf course. Course located partially in a cypress preserve, chain star baskets, tee signs, and concrete pads. The disc golf course here is awesome and definitely offers a good change from the Tradewinds course. It's a lot more woodsy and although the drives are shorter they require more skill to work around the trees. The course doesn't really flood and never seems to have many issues with insects. BBQ areas are nice and the park is clean. I have not done it yet but people camp out there all the time. There is also a disc golf store and mini mart conveniently on the corner of 38th and Powerline. The discs there are reasonably priced and the staff knowledgable. The mini mart next door has all the basics you might need for a day at the park. read more

Great park in the middle of the city. I think there are 30 RV spaces which are all private and well kept. For the city- it's full of nature with a pond, iguanas, mosquitos and ducks. I stayed here in my Airstream for several months. Others stayed that long as well. I highly recommend. read more

Little park tucked away in the middle of the city. I come here to play disc golf. This park has one of the best 18 hole disc golf courses in the tri-county area. All holes are well marked and always very well maintained. That also goes for the rest of the park. Lots of wildlife in here. Most of it can be found around the centrally located lake. All sorts of birds, reptiles and small critters have been spotted by myself on many different occasions. There is also a small campground in the back of the park if that's your thing. Just keep in mind that train tracks run right along side this otherwise peaceful park they run all day and all night . There is nothing like being woken up every half hour throughout the night by whistles bells and train horns. I know from experience, having camped here several times. Come check this little park out. This is a very nice park and campground..kept very clean..personal nice and helpful. Sites very private and homey. Only has one drawback and that is the railroad tracks/train going day and night. Weekends not too bad but weekday/nights the train will drive you NUTS! Can't beat it for the price..if you like trains! read more
