I am a tremendous fan of any town that embraces an unique identity, even for touristy reasons. Unlike Leavenworth, though, Mount Angel has a legitimate claim to its Bavarian roots, thanks in part to the Benedictine abbey atop the hill on the outskirts of town. But even more than that, Mount Angel has embraced the cuisine, music, culture and spirit of that beer-loving region half a world away, and we are all made the richer for it! In the "off-season", Mount Angel is a sleepy, out of the way village with rich heritage: it is the site of the aforementioned Benedictine abbey/monastery/seminary, a gorgeous Catholic cathedral, an enchanting Glockenspiel, and several other callbacks to its European roots. But during the festival months (mid-September, as well as Volksfest in the spring, a Christmas market, etc), the town swells by an order of magnitude, as myriad tourists from all over the region pour in, and myriad mugs and steins are poured into as well. Additionally, a handful of year-round shops and restaurants based in Mount Angel do the heavy lifting when it comes to the offering Oktoberfest essentials: Mount Angel Sausage Co, Touch of Bavaria, Angel Mountain Christmas, and the always exceptional (and recently revived from the dead) Glockenspiel restaurant! If you need a bratwurst, a dirndl, and/or some ornaments for the holiday season now looming on the horizon, these should be your erste wahl! I love this town, and I'm so very thankful that it's only a short hour's drive away from home (FAR more accessible than Leavenworth!). There's a lot more to Mount Angel than its Oktoberfest (although it truly is the best around!), and worth a visit just about any time of the year. This is a community that revels in its heritage, and celebrates in style (and plenty of beer), as often as possible. What's not to love?

All the years of growing up and now so many years being away. This is a great little town to visit. The Catholic church is at the center of town and you can't miss it. The catholic priests live at the abbey at the top of the hill. Every year they celebrate the harvest by having an Oktoberfest. Its a great celebration of food and fun. If you have a chance to visit Mt. Angel, you should. It's not very big. It won't take long to visit, but its well worth the time.

I have legimate walking challenges and cannot park far and bring my dog to park to exercise her. Fully capable able bodied High School students can walk to other parking lot for their cars. The High school students are too lazy to park in parking lot at Hazelia dog park. Why have a high school which students attend where you cannot park at the school of have permit parking makes no sense. So many students are fully able bodied capable of walking to big parking lot to get their cars yet they wanna take up spaces by dog park because too lazy to park in parking lot and take the spaces away from a disabled person who has walking challenges. Yes there's handi cap spaces in parking lot but its far to walk. Its very fustrating the High School students taking up the spaces by dog park.

As an education professional and someone with many friends in education, I offer some bold words:…read morethe opinion that Lakeridge may be the best public high school in the state. Recent scandals involving the football program notwithstanding, students continue to excel at Lakeridge. The school is filled with caring and knowledgable teachers and staff, and students know this. I truly believe that the positive mentoring relationship between students and staff is valued by both parties. A final note: if I had teenagers, I would move just to make sure they attended Lakeridge.

Males are usually treated with more lax standards along with shorter, less developed girls. Some people are very quick to make assumptions about students based on overall airs. I was on financial support, but tuition is pretty expensive. Not many students. Some of the students that grew up in a wealthy loving family can be very inconsiderate with words. Dress code is strict. Dress code enforcer has tried to tell me where MY mid thigh was. Also the dress code does not provide much room for religious wear. Hijabs and headwear are allowed, but certain holidays might include certain attire. It can be a challenging place for students with Social Anxiety on multiple different fronts. There is no special needs program to my knowledge. I personally think that this school is a bit too sensitive, but that comes from a middle class public school person until I got here recently. The school is pretty academically supportive to those who don't require help, but it skips a year of material. I was scared to say this till now but it was also pretty terrifying the whole time. And exhausting. Mental health is taken care of by most of the teachers that are trying to get their own job done. Kids have said slurs, done VERY inappropriate things and made noises to others, and it's never taken care of. It always kept happening. Bullying was not addressed. Most people are obsessed with putting labels on you. And people wouldn't listen to me. It was actually pretty deteriorating. And I had already went into this school with crippling depression. My only friends at the school were much more support than the mental health support system or whatever thing they had set up at the time. And nobody knows boundaries. I'm sorry. I hope its changed now.
