Went to sell 4 semi-rare date coins today. I had a pretty good idea what I wanted and what they were worth to a coin dealer. I was in no hurry to sell. Had a great conversation with John and could not quite come to a deal. We ended up $200 apart on $5000 with of coins. He was fair and I could completely understand where he was coming from. He even called a colleague to tell them about my coins. I left feeling valued and respected. I was not the least bit disappointed. Though, I think he was. He really tried to make the deal work. The customer ahead of me had about $20 worth of common date stuff. John treated him the same as he treated me. That was nice to see. We didn't have an appointment and my mom and I were walk in customers. Buz greeted us and helped us unload many years of coin collections of my fathers from our car. What I've been dreading for years, wasn't awful at all! I thought going through all these items was going to be very time consuming and painful. It was actually the opposite. Since this is his field of expertise, Buz could quickly identify what was face value money from collectibles. He listened to everyone of my mothers stories and treated her with kindness and respect. I walked today didn't know they where closed I should have checked Yelp first! There was a person inside but hours or days where listed on the door. I know security is always a thing with these places so I rang the buzzer like the only sign there said. The guy that buzzed the door said they where closed but asked me what I was looking for anyways. When I told him he said they had some samples but said they where to expensive. I told him money was not really a problem for me and I told him why the year was important due to my military service. He still insisted that what they had was to expensive. I guess I will go spend my 1,000$ dollars cash elsewhere lol. I would not go to this store and buy from them if they where the only one in the entire state that had one. read more

I had to sell a bunch of gold coins with numistic value. It was for an estate and I needed a printed receipt made out to the estate. We made an agreement that I would walk out of there with the receipt. We exchanged the coins and the check. When it came time for the receipt, he said I would have to go home and come back for it. That was not what we agreed to, but I guess he changed his mind after he had the coins in his hand. read more

I picked up a pre-'64 Franklin .50 cent piece from these guys a few weeks ago at a very reasonable price. You have to get "buzzed" in and they are not open on Saturday. The gentleman that assisted me was courteous, helpful and friendly. I would consider purchasing from John Franklin Coins again in the future. ...when you go out of your way and rush to get to a spot that closes at 4pm, make it to the spot BEFORE 4pm, ring the doorbell and see the guy come out of the back and tell you 'we're closed', it kiiiiinda confuses you a bit, maaaaaybe even pisses you off. ...when i questioned what time they close, the response was 'we close at 4 but we're closed now because we're going to a show.' I hope they raked in the $$ at the show, because to turn away a possible customer lookin to purchase coins with $$ in his pocket, during stated business hours, is....well; maybe its just their hobby and they dont care about making $$??? I dunno, but since theyre not open on weekends, i went to another closeby shop and spent $$ to purchase the coins i wanted! It wasnt like the dude was like 'what can i help you with? something specific?' No, he makes an X with his arms to signify 'closed'. Yea, thats how to run a business! Purchased two high denomination bills from this dealer which were doctored and over graded. I sent both bills to an independent currency authentication service which confirmed my fears. When I called the dealer to explain the situation, he actually accused me of switching the bills. Avoid this disreputable and dishonest dealer. read more
