Went to sell some silver yesterday at Blue Vault. I can't believe the way they treat their customers. I was never greeted with a hello or an even smile from anyone on their staff. I was told to sit and wait in line. An older gentleman came in after me and walked by the 3 of us that were waiting. One of the staff started hollering at him to stop. That he needed to wait in line and that people in the back needed their privacy. The same staff member then started to talk to the staff member at the front desk, cussing and swearing in a low voice about their customers... This place has no professionalism at all. If I was an owner I would be hiring some new staff, or at least give them some training. They have plenty of cameras in the place they can see for themselves how they are treating their customers. To top things off. I was quoted one price on the phone for my silver. When I showed up 30 minutes later the price was $5.45 less than what the quoted me. I'm not writing this post because of the price difference. I'm writing it because of the way they treat their customers. I'd love to talk to an owner about my experience. read more

I just made a phone call to Blue Vault to find out about prices and sizes of their storage units. I did not see their prices online; that is why I called. I am totally new to this; I know nothing about precious metals storage. Oliver answered the phone. From his first words, his attitude felt very cold. I think his greeting was simply "Blue Vault." He did not have an open, helpful approach in the least. I felt a distinct wall in our conversation. The coin dealers I have dealt with in the past few years have been very approachable over the phone; their attitude is immediate friendliness, professionalism, and helpfulness, readiness to answer any questions, etc. I didn't feel any of this with Oliver. Therefore it was a very brief conversation in which he told me the size of the smallest safe deposit box and the monthly cost. He did not invite me to come in to see the facility or ask how he could help me. I am really dismayed by this experience because from their online presence and other comments, they looked very good. But first impressions are very important with me and I think with everyone. At this point, I will look elsewhere for storage possibilities. read more

It was not the greatest experience. My dad wanted to come in person, to get his questions answered, as opposed to calling. He is old fashioned like that. Dawson was not super engaging or pleasant and was weirdly making zero eye contact. He also hung up on me earlier when I called, before I was finished with my questions. I don't think I would utilize their services in the future. Kind of a bust for me, from a customer service experience. I didn't feel that our business was really desired. Dawson was very blase about helping us or building a good relationship with me. He made it clear he gave no shits. I received the message loud and clear. I will be selling a bunch of gold eagles at some point in the future, so I was like f##k Blue Vault, I'll find a place that values my business and will be respectful to my dad and me. I'm brand new to the process of buying coins, bars and other physical investments. I needed a little extra guidance about the process and I let the person working today know that. I even visited the website before coming to gather info beforehand and there was no information about the building access or process. Not only does the website not inform new persons about the process but the staff is unprofessional, pushy and demanding. The man behind the counter was wearing a puka shell necklace and was rude to deal with. He demanded me to scan my hand without any explanation and then hurried me through the process. Without looking up from his phone he told me to look at the screen for what I wanted and acted annoyed when I didn't know what screen he was referring to- again IVE NEVER BEEN HERE . Then looked up to say, only cash or check no credit no debit, got it? I planned to invest $1000 today and hundreds every month after, but after this experience, will never be returning to Blue Vault. I sold (and bought) gold here a few times. The area is very safe. The first time I sold gold here (for non US coins), I was given just under spot prices. I was expecting at least spot. That's why this isn't a 5 star review. I expected to sell at spot and buy above spot for all gold transactions. That's just a fair way to do things. Businesses that sell gold always sell above spot to make money on a sale. Even on a buy, a business will make money, since gold always goes up in value over time. Even if the business sells that gold immediately to someone else, they are making money on it by selling over spot. So to not get at least spot seems petty and unreasonable. I will say the location is upscale and very secure. The 2nd time I came back to sell gold, it was for the US coins that I owned. For those, they gave me OVER SPOT prices. I was most pleased. They gave me cash immediately. It was quick and easy. If this company buys gold at spot prices, people will like it more. The small amount of money they make on buys under spot isn't worth angering people. Just some feedback. All in all, I love going here. It's the best place I know of to buy and sell gold. They are competitive, and there is a no BS, no haggle vibe. read more

I was looking to diversify our portfolio some; and have some reliable, tangible assets vice the mostly stock approach. I did my research starting at the source the US Mint. I was eventually referred to BlueVault. I called with questions. David called me back within and hour listened and answered my questions thoroughly. It was a pleasant conversation. A few days later, I called again with additional questions, and spoke to Michael. He was also pleasant and professional on the phone. I conducted the purchase via financial wire which garnered a small discount as well as a $5 per ounce discount for a bulk purchase. Once all funds had cleared the order was placed, received within a week. I drove down and sat with Dawson to arranged a storage box in the vault (at a military discount), and sign for my purchase. Which was thoroughly counted out in front of me. I received cash change for the unspent part of the wire transfer. I was given a thorough explanation of the facility, security and access procedures, biometric scanning and other requirements. I am completely satisfied with my purchase, the active engagement of each member of the team I dealt with, and communication from all parties. I have a lot of knowledge of gold and silver buying and selling, so here are my thoughts on BV. 1. The cheapest safe deposit is $19/mo. The banks I have used in my life either offer it for free to bigger customers, or for $60-100 a year. Not good. 2. Gold: The premium above spot price is $70/oz for the "low end" 1oz items up to $200 for 1/4 oz items. In both cases, that's too expensive, but it isn't crazy high either. I routinely have been able to get gold for spot price on eBay from major dealers after factoring in 1.5% credit card cash back. eBay is safe if you stick to sellers than have been on the site for 10+ years and are established like ApMex and JMBullion. 3. Silver: similar to gold. I won't say they are rip-off prices, but they are on the high side. 4. Sales tax rules: In California, you pay sales tax on precious metal purchased under $1500, no tax above that. This means it's CRAZY to buy less than 1500 at a time. Now if you just want a single silver coin, the 9% sales tax on $28 is no big deal. But spending $500 and paying $45 in sales tax is bad, don't do it. Save your money until you have $1500, OR buy the GLD and SLV etfs that have no taxes. Conclusion: Nothing wrong with BV, especially if you're getting started with gold/silver and want to deal with someone local. But better prices (meaning lower premium above the spot price) can be found elsewhere. read more

I had my first experience going to bluevault. I've recently become interested in purchasing gold and silver as gifts for my kids and grandchildren.I wanted to buy something in the 300$ to $500 range for my son and get some silver 1 ounce coins for the grandkids die Christmas. There wasn't as big of a selection as online, but the online deliveries were backed up so much that there was no way I could get these by Christmas which is in about 15 days. Both of the guys were very nice and went out of their way to show me everything they had under $500 and didn't make me feel cheap at all about buying $30 coins for everybody. This place is really cool! I was intimidated by it, but always wanted to go in. I met Nancy, one of the owners threw a mutual friend, and she gave me a tour. Just to walk in the door, they take your palm print, this is the best security to verify you if you are wanting to get into your safety deposit box.
