We had a wonderful stay at the John Hotel. The front-desk staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, and after a long, frustrating travel day, that meant so much to us. Our room was comfortable, the air conditioning worked great, and the keys worked every time (you don't realize how important that is until you've had a horrible key experience!). Having a kettle and tea available was also especially appreciated by my mom. The location was fantastic for us--right near Chinatown and surrounded by an endless supply of amazing food. We had one of our favorite meals of the entire trip just steps away. It may not be located in downtown Manhattan, but for us, that turned out to be part of the charm. The John Hotel gave us exactly what we needed: comfort, reliability, great service, and genuinely nice people. We would absolutely choose the John Hotel again. read more

After flying the plane, riding an airbus to catch the train and then hopping on the subway, we finally arrived in Flushing, Queens. Check in with no issue. We are off the Main Street close to Chinatown. The flavor of the people is very mixed. We felt safe and even have a nice view of Manhattan. The room is spacious, above average in facilities. This was an unplanned stay due to a culmination of issues due to delays on a tarmac , a 45 minute wait for the other half of our international flight's luggage and, an extremely long line through TSA and global entry being closed. Yes, even with a 3 hour layover. Delta put us up in this hotel. It's about a 30 minute or so drive from JFK. From JFK you can take the air train to where the bus stop is for pick up where their shuttle arrives. It can take about an hour for pick up. Just make sure to call the number at the hotel or the number provided so they know to pick you up. I'm not sure if shuttle rides to the airport to JFK are included in the hotel price. I think so, but just confirm with the hotel. Be sure to check at the front desk to ask what times and availability they have for a ride back. They have limited seating in their shuttle van. Our room was huge,spacious and clean. There's a small mini fridge and a microwave in the room. Breakfast is included and it does offer some (deli) meat options as well. It's located close to where the U.S. OPEN is held and located in Flushing's Chinatown. When we drove down the street to the hotel there are plenty of restaurants and it smelled so good. read more

Very nice, clean and spacious room. Conveniently located close to JFK. They offer a shuttle between the airport and hotel. The room is very clean and comfortable, surprisingly spacious. They have a coffee maker, fridge, and microwave, and hairdryer, so nice to have those conveniences! The only issue was the smell of smoking affected our asthma, otherwise it was a decent stay for missing our connection. Good for an overnight stay! read more

I had to stay in this hotel as my American Airlines flight got delayed until the next day. The accommodations were OK nothing crazy but I was still able to have a good night sleep. No crazy view as there was construction being done across the street. The morning breakfast was nothing to be amazed at, I only ate a banana. Great little find close to the US Open Tennis facility. Super clean and comfy room. Bed was surprisingly comfy for a mattress only bed. Great hot water and pressure. Monogrammed towels, mini fridge and microwave gave us what we needed. Friendly front desk staff. Parking around the corner is separate but reasonable for NYC. $28 for 24 hrs. This hotel is on the edge of Chinatown and next to lots of great shopping. Only complaint was a kinda yucky breakfast that was included. We went to a diner instead. 3/5 stars until my wedding band went down the sink, 4/5 because of how quick and efficiently I was helped. The hotel was just fine for the price (one of the cheapest I could find with good reviews). We came to visit Citi Field for a couple of games and ventured into Manhattan and were able to get there and the Brooklyn bridge in 55 minutes. Citi Field is less than a mile walk. Not the most updated, but it's cheap. You have to watch the step from the bathroom as it's a step and it got me a few times, but I have poor memory thanks to a brain injury. Continental breakfast was ok. No alternative milk options so I had to walk down to target to get my son non dairy milk so he could have cereal. I ate sausage and a hard boiled egg. The breakfast wasn't appealing to me at all but I guess at least it's offered. I did not love the beds, ok but I really dislike that you get a thin sheet duvet thing and the beds weren't the most comfortable as someone who has a bad back, but again for the price, I didn't expect much. We are checking out today and of course my wedding band went down the sink. I called the front desk and the maintenance man came up and was amazing and so quick and got my ring out. So grateful and if you stay here don't leave your ring on the side of the sink, it might go down! read more

I stay at hotels almost every Friday. This was my first time staying here. I've stayed in similar style hotels in the area. I usually use different apps, to book the rooms. Sometimes, the hotel is not revealed until, you enter payment info. Sometimes, you are able to guess which hotel it will be. However, in this instance, I wasn't expecting to get John Hotel. I was expecting, Feather Factory. Both hotels have similar ratings... I was disappointed, that I got John Hotel. But, most of the ratings are really good on Hotwire. So, I knew it wouldn't be awful The outside is sketchy looking. It's almost the very end of the block. There's a few larger , chain hotels on the same block. So, I'm compassion , I thought it was sketchy. The front desk employees were not too welcoming. When I arrived,, I had to do all the talking.. They didn't say, hello. They didn't say, welcome or "how can I help you.... They first thing they did say was, I need a credit card. I knew that it was for incidentals, BUT, they shouldn't assume everyone would .... I did see something about Breakfast on Hotwire. But, they didn't mention it.... I had to ask. The front desk is such an important position at a hotel. It's sets a tone. The guys weren't nasty, but I didn't feel like a welcome guest. The room was a large room, it was comfortable. The room was clean. However, their was a lighter underneath the bed. I imagine, it was from the previous guests. So, they didn't sweep or vacuum. The towels were nice, and embroidered. I have forgotten the brand of their toiletries The beds are lower, than most. , I liked their breakfast , It was on the first floor in the cafeteria. They had hot & cold cereal, They had breads. A limited amount of fruit. Hard boiled eggs. Luncheon meat,. Coffee & Juice. Their cafeteria reminded me of a meetup room in a Euro or Asian Hotel. Their ice machine was more like a large freezer. Which I kinda like. (Hotel Ice machines are very dirty.). Inside the freezer, there were bags of ice premade. The TV HAD GOOD channels, BUT, it was in an odd spot. I would think it would be best to be in front of the beds (in between the two). The actual spot was to the right of the second bed.... Heads up, this hotel is extremely inflexible and uncaring about circumstances out of your control. I booked this hotel for a quick getaway to see a Mets game but due to multiple weather related flight cancellations (and after spending 15+ hours at the airport)was unable to get into NYC for said getaway and game. I contacted the hotel and explained my situation and their only offered resolution was to come in the next day (and spend yet another night at the airport). Otherwise I was SOL. Sorry no.... I would understand if I just wanted to cancel for S&G but this is Mother Nature not allowing me to get into town. read more

BUGS everywhere you really have to look and I'm glad we did and ended up not staying the night but very disappointed since it was so last minute and had to drive all the way back home restless ... I'm hesitant about the number of stars to give. I actually loved this hotel, but there were some negative points, First off, I booked through a third party site. I confirmed my reservation the day before directly through the hotel. Not to be rude, but it is slightly hard to communicate with the front desk staff. We had to go to the hotel front desk to understand where the parking was located. The room itself was very clean, neat. The sheets were wrinkled though. The room is very minimal, which was fine. This just means no closet or extra mirrors. There was a rack to hang clothes though. The room was SO HOT, the thermostat did not seem to work, but luckily we were able to open the window. We did not have an issue with noise outside the hotel. The breakfast was OKAY. It had the basics (bread, boiled eggs, cereal, coffee, juice). They did pass out water bottles, which was nice. There was a bathroom there. This hotel offers the basic essentials. I am giving four stars because we were solely here to sleep, not hang out in the hotel. The front desk person Amy (estimate late 30 year old) was very unprofessional and was unhappy that I had asked for the exchange and I told me that I shouldn't have booked that kind of room online. I was not given the option of the placement of the room on the website when I made the reservation, however, she still giving me the option to change room but could have done so without fact checking and her rude comment. I was told to sign a form for checking in which I did but didn't have time to read all the verbiage so I asked to get a copy and she assured me that when I check out I could get a copy of what I signed so I waited till checkout. When I checked out Amy was there again to help me and I asked for a copy of the check in form and she denied a copy to me saying that that's only for their in-house record and proceeded to insult me and ask if I've ever stayed at a hotel before because this is a regular process at any hotel. The answer to that is yes I've stayed at plenty of hotels before but I was never denied signed copy of anything. I then got to take photo of that doc but again she should have kept her insult. Amy seem to be a supervisor from what I could tell but she's a bad example of what customer service should be. I hope this message reaches the management team to improve the hotel's service quality. Everyone else at the hotel was very helpful, kind and pleasant, like the gentleman in the breakfast room and other front desk associates. The rooms were okay for the price point and our tv didn't have any channels at all the 4 days we were there. Room was small but clean. read more

If this was the last hotel on earth I would stay outside on a park bench. Absolutely horrendous. Do not stay at this hotel. It smells musty, small room that looks more like a closet. There was no doubt in my mind there are definitely rodents, roaches and bed bugs within the hotel. There are no amenities other than a shuttle from the airport. It looked more like a homeless shelter than a hotel. I guess if you are not considered with feeling welcomed and comfortable where you lay your head to rest then I guess stay here. But this place is by far the worse hotel I have ever encountered. I knew from the outside that I was not going to stay here and I only went into the room to take pictures to submit to Delta Airlines as proof of my concern and my unwillingness to stay there. There as a man outside the front door going through the trash and the trash area is located directly outside the front door. Loved my room! It was clean and cozy. Fluffy towels, had a fridge. Front desk service was pretty prompt and friendly. Breakfast available for all guests. Loved the fact the hotel was walking distance to a convenience store and restaurants. Had a nice view from the 6th floor. Love having the door bell. I loved my bathroom as well. Only thing, walls are thin so you can hear everything going on in the next room. There also wasn't an iron available in the room. I Would still recommend anyone to stay here. Very bad service. Front desk is very rude. I called a few days before my trip to see if I'm able to check in early. I come to the hotel the front desk guy gives me attitude tells me I cannot check in until 12 and if I want to check in early he's gonna charge me $1,000. Later comes other people to check in and he lets them in and I've been waiting since 7 am and no update. Bad bad service. Later they go in our room to supposedly clean. We come back and our bathroom is not clean and my makeup was all over the floor. read more

Due to the horrible weather in the midwest, our flight was cancelled twice. We booked with John Hotel while we waited out the storms. It was the perfect place for us. The staff was friendly, polite, and very professional. They answered a bajillion questions we had. The hotel was in my budget and provided us with a large room and everything we needed. The hotel is in an Asian neighborhood so we were able to eat at some really nice places that were close by. My grandson is studying the Japanese language and their culture so he was excited to use his new knowledge at the hotel, shops and restaurants. Our two day flight cancellation turned into a mini educational field trip. read more

The hotel is clean, great location, and good customer service. The breakfast is decent. The main issue for us is the water pressure in the shower. We made a complaint and they supposedly fixed it but didn't help much. So if you want to have a hot pressured shower then this hotel isn't for you. The bathroom door lock wasn't working but it wasn't that big of a deal. Who would give this hotel anything less than a one-star rating in their right mind! This room was small, stale, missing amenities like an iron or ironing board, and there was no parking. On top of that, it was expensive and parking was extra down the block. The carpet was stale, and the Asian guys up front had no clue about anything. The hotel is located in the heart of the ghetto, maybe Chinatown or Koreatown, and barely noticeable from the street. There was no room to park and unload bags from car. Let me start by saying that my stay at this hotel was due to my Delta flight being bumped to the next day. My original stay was at a hotel in SoHo, so there was a difference. The area for this hotel is very sketchy and I was not excited about staying upon my arrival. It seems to be an older chain hotel that's been taken over by an independent owner. Not that it matters, but the hotel is Asian owned. The front desk staff was very nice and accommodating especially based on our situation. We stayed in room 502. The room was extremely clean and the beds were very comfortable. The shuttle was there the next morning at 4 am to get us to our flight. Even though we were there for only 4 hours, this was the bright spot of our travel nightmare. Absolutely the worst hotel I've ever stay with. Unprofessional staff and poor quality in everything. Room doesn't have a close nor iron and ironing board. I had to ask for them at the front desk and was told to return them them right away. The iron was also broken. The worst part is that they insisted that I get on their free shuttle at 3 am for a 6 am flight. Not knowing the airport situation', I believed them. The airport was literally 5 mins away. WTF! This hotel was able to accommodate us last minute. The process was easy and the staff was nice. Check out is at noon which is really nice when you need to catch a later flight. It's not far from the airport and the pricing was moderated compared to most. The hotel is in an Asian neighborhood so there was a lot of diversity which I like. They have a strict no smoking policy but our room smelled like smoke but I opened a window and it was fine but that might not work if some one was more sensitive. There was a free continental breakfast with all the basics including hardboiled eggs and sausages. I would recommend staying here if you need a basic room near the airport. read more

We stayed in 101c ( so never book that room ) When I booked this place I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is a great hotel in a prime location if you love Asian food this is the area. I was literally in heaven UNTIL I was woken ups to 5 am full construction going on outside of the room and I mean literally when we opened the windows we could look at the workers We were standing so close i was essentially on the site I couldn't put on a vest got to work myself. I have no gripes about the hotel but the construction is by far a huge downfall I'm sure the entire basement was unable to sleep after 5 am. I truly don't write long reviews but if you say here you really put the risk of not getting any sleep or worse. read more

Horrible experience here. Not clean, feels a bit like ginormous roaches will crawl on you if you close your eyes. Super noisy. Bed is hard as a rock. Layed on bed because of canceled late flight but immediately started itching. Not sure if bed bugs or something else in there. Lasted 1 hour and headed back to airport. Does not feel safe there. I like this place. It's close to great restaurants, the service is friendly, price is reasonable, it's been renovated and is extremely clean. How do I know this? When we checked in we saw the cleaning lady on her knees in another room. The room is simple but I appreciate the small details in the linens down to the tissue box. Shower head is good except both doors don't slide. No sectioned off closet only a bar but that wasn't a factor for us. Once we had an issue with our neighbors but managment resolved it to our satisfaction. I've read reviews about noise or the construction next door but we didn't have a problem with it. Breakfast is not fancy but is sufficient. They have a vending machine that has a variety of things and is cheap compared to most. But my favorite parts of this place is the mattress. It's memory foam and perfect for my back and the electronic door bell/do not disturb sign. It even alerts you if the door is left open. Yes! Every hotel should have this. read more

It is only 3 miles from the airport. We stayed here because our flight was cancelled. We booked through a third-party website so we paid up front. They take a $50 refundable deposit at check in. Check in was quick and the room was nice and cool when we got there. They was a nice digital pad on the wall outside the door with a doorbell. I had never seen that at a hotel so that was cool. The room was sparse but had everything we needed for a single nights' stay. The bed was very firm and almost uncomfortably so. There were long, straight black hairs all over the room. On the bathroom counter, on the toilet, on the shower floor and also on the floor in the room. The carpet was dark so I found that out when I dropped my phone and picked up a long strand of hair along with it. Occasionally we would hear the loud sound of water running through pipes above our head. It was unnerving because it sounded like water was dripping in our room. The shower was hot and the towels were big. This was the cheapest and closet hotel we could find near the airport so if that's what you need, I recommend The John. read more

Similar to the other review about the A/C, it's wack. We turned it to 50 degrees and put it to cool, the room goes warm/hot. Good thing it's kinda chilly outside so we can open the only window for some air. It was cooler outside in the elevator area than in our room but the thermostat read 80 degrees with auto on. So we decided to copy what was outside and somehow the room was a bit cooler at 80 degrees than 50.. ‍‍ The bed was OK, the room was very plain. No fridge no closet. There was a TV and a lot of clean white towels. The hotel itself was new and clean. The breakfast was nothing special- congee, oatmeal, juice, coffee, cereal, sausages, boiled eggs, bread, cup noodles and fruits. We only stayed here because it was free as we had points that were expiring. read more

Stayed here with my children for three nights on the 5th floor. The hotel is new, huge plus! Check in was fast and efficient. Our room was very clean and comfortable with 2 queen beds, TV, desk, and sitting area. The room had a really nice hairdryer, refrigerator, coffee maker, and hot water-carafe.The bathroom was spotless with the thickest towels I've seen at any hotel. Reception staff was both helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included. I had boiled eggs, sausage, ham, cheese, and coffee. Takeout coffee cups are available if you are in a rush. My kids had toast, cereal, fresh fruits, and orange juice. Perfect place to stay if visiting the city or watching a game at Citi Field. Great view of Citi Field from the roof too. To the left of the hotel entrance is a paid parking lot. You pay daily and take your car in and out as much as you like. To the right, the best Chinese food in all of Queens. If you love mango, for dessert, you must try mango pomelo at Kulu Desserts. It's just a quick walk from the hotel. Trust me on this! Target, BJ, and food court is in walking distance. My flight was cancelled very late so I booked the first room I could so I could get back to airport in a few hours. My morning flight was cancelled as well but this place is not somewhere I could make myself comfortable. First off there was no latch on the door which made me uneasy sleeping. The Direct tv went out within minutes of my arrival and never came back on. I called front desk and there was nothing to be done.the walls are so thin I could hear everything throughout the night. doors closing, coughing, talking, brushing teeth, etc and no tv to drown it out! The room was small and a little awkward. No closet, not enough lighting and you Can not control thermostat you must call front desk. Breakfast was not the best. Some fruit passed prime(no bananas) , oatmeal that looked more like water with floating flakes, congee, non-appetizing looking breads. I skipped it and immediately grabbed a Uber to airport to see what flight I could get on. Bottom line- if you need to crash by airport it's not the worst option if you get a good price. read more

Diamond in the rough! I pulled up to the hotel and there was construction next door. It was dark, raining and on a semi dark street. My wife mentioned the hotel receptionists were friendly and nice. The hotel room is modern and clean. It's located close to a lot of great Asian restaurants. One star off because of the construction going on next door (which starts around 7am). Also there's no hotel parking. I ended up parking at SkyView Mall for $24 a day. read more
