Over deliver, ahead of schedule, exceeding expectations, didn't have to become my own project manager, trust worthy crew,  over and beyond are some ways I have to describe John J Contracting and this blows my mind because every contractor who has done work to my house over the last 15 years in most cases not one of those descriptive words apply to any of them! To say that I'm blown away by John J contracting who checked off every one of those boxes is mind blowing to me Project was to convert my garage into a utilizable living space  I 1st met with Paul who listened to what I wanted done and put together a plan to help me convert my garage into a dance/music studio for my kids.   His ideas were better then the previous 3 contractors I met with, he took a day to create my estimate and from a price perspective he fell in between the high and the low bids I already had. Paul's professionalism kinda sold me, he was very focused and has a great personality. I wanted him to win the job and he fell in my budget so it made my decision very easy to choose them A day before the projects start date I met with John Joyce the owner who came to my house with Paul. We went over some last minute details and ideas and he had a lot of offer from a design and practicality perspective.   Day one of renovation went amazingly well, Joe was over seeing the demo, he was great and didn't cause any collateral damage to my house. Demo guys sometimes can. He didn't , Framing was overseen by another Joe. He was meticulous and had great foresight to the project. Engaged me with any concerns and we worked through all unforeseen obstacles my garage presented. The electrition and plumber were top notch. They were specialist to there perspective fields. My last contractor had one guy for everything but not certified in anything. Unlike any other contractor I ever had they showed up every day. Everyday there was progress being made to my renovation. Most importantly to me was that Paul and John both stopped by my job site every day and sometimes 3 times in a day. But on average probably twice a day to oversee the progress and make enhancements/adjustments as necessary as the project developed, at no extra charge in some cases, they definitely wanted to do what was best for me and not beat me over the head In the process with additional costs. The project called for 3 weeks from start to finish. They completed it ahead of schedule.  All the workers were trustworthy and personable I felt 100% comfortable to leave my young kids home alone for a short time while the guys were working.  At no point did I have have to act as my own project manager as I had to in the past with other contractors. At no point I had to chase them around just to get confirmations on simple things like "are you coming today? " like I had to in the past Paul picked up the phone I would have to say within three rings 99% of the time. Even on Sundays.  To give an idea of who I used in the past  Allure to do my upstairs in 2018.  They had missed a lot of days and a the PM Chris would never return my calls and once the job started he Just went MIA.  I give them 4 out of 10 stars and would never recommend them. Refused to use them again. I paid 30% more and for 50% less I'm my opinion  CCP contracting Who did a renovation downstairs in 2019.  Owner would not return unless I had sent a scathing text message begging for a call back, and when he called me back he made me feel like I was bothering him. Started my job in mid April needed it done by my birthday mid May and commited to that time frame, and did not end up not finishing till mid June. After the job was done things that needed to be touched up and they ghosted me pretty much.  ( John J actually fixed some of their issues for me) I can't say enough good about John J Contracting, I will only use them going forward, I recommend them to the highest degree.  Do not start a project without giving them consideration James read more

This construction company is fantastic. We've used them for 2 big projects so far, couldn't be happier and will never use anyone else! The entire staff from the owner to the manager and all the workers we encountered were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. All companies work on multiple projects yet they were always checking in personally and made us feel like ours was the only project they had going on. We first used them for a full conversion of a sunroom, bathroom and laundry room. Our 2nd project was last spring when they basically transformed our backyard to what now feels like a resort with a beautiful pool deck and masonry. This job was post-Covid and they took all the safety precautions so I felt completely comfortable. Home owner beware!!!! Horrible experience. Watch out for lies like" it's all included in the carpentry package". " We will fix it" They subcontract everything. They beat up their subs on the price so johnJ can tack on 25% ,then the home owner is stuck with an inferior product and JohnJ contracting doesn't take responsibility. As They did with my horrible 20k paint job (done by Paint Man) with cheap paint. That's when they start trying to convince you its perfect and you start getting the good guy bad guy act from johnJ and his office manager Paul. They had someone install a direct vent fire place, the interior stone walls were missing, you can't run the fire place with out it. Never finished. In the end he thought he wasn't going to give me inspection paper work so I couldn't get my CO. I reported it to the town and I ended up getting it on my own. I'm finishing all the shoddy work myself. Horrible. read more

I had a dormer extension done on my home 3 years ago by John. When we did the dormer the chimney was removed and a new heating unit venting out of the side of the house was installed. When I called the plumber I normally used to look at it (because the pilot kept blowing out) he told me the unit was not for a residential home and that it was sucking the heat out of my house. He wouldn't touch it. I had to rip the whole thing out and ended up with what I asked John for in the first place. A tankless system. That was the first major repair of his work ( there are countless other minor repairs, including electrical, and wood floors they damaged). I'm now facing the second major repair on the roof. I called John to let him know that the water was getting behind the gutter and into the soffits. He sent guys over to look at it but they were not successful at fixing the problem. I had 3 professional roofers come give me estimate and they all tell me my shingles are to short, there is no ice shield, the shingles are hanging over the side of the house and water is getting under to the wood roof. Oh and they used 3 different color shingles to finish my roof. I guess I got leftovers. John was never here when the work was being done. There was no general manager. I doubt the work would have been done right even if he was around. It makes me sick after paying to have work done, and I'm now paying to have it all fixed the right way. Update... I found out after having the roof repaired that all my very expensive azek trim was nailed in with pin nails and they are all starting to rust. I'm also getting prices on finishing the rest of my siding and found out that the trim around my window should have gone on the house first, not on top of the hardy siding. If the siding fails Hardie won't warranty it. Good grief. What next! read more

On April 3rd Ron came to my home to provide an estimate for a small bathroom renovation (40' sq ft), to include the removal of the tub and replace with a walk in shower, tile floor and replace the toilet and vanity. I texted him on April 4th asking if he could expedite the estimate. On April 13th I texted again asking if he had forgotten about me. He replied "very busy here. Your estimate is being worked on. I will check on it first thing in the morning." On May 3rd I texted telling him it was a moot point but I thought him and John J to be very unprofessional." He responded that he would have the estimate ready by the end of the week. As of today, 5/26th I have never received the estimate or any further communication or explanation. The bathroom is currently being renovated and so I, yes, I was ready, willing and able to proceed with the job. John J lost a customer and if asked by friends, family or neighbors I would say don;t even bother. John J is a hugely unprofessional company. read more

Last year John and his team did a renovation, as well as an extension of my kitchen. His staff were extremely conscientious and did a beautiful job. I began receiving compliments from contractors on the quality of John's work even when only the framing was completed. The compliments have consistently continued one year later. While a project manager was assigned to me, John was always available to answer all my questions and made time to come over if necessary.
