It's a shame I was told Dr. J O'Brien is a top notch surgeo and while it may be. His people skills are down the drain. I went to see him because I was interested in several surgeries and not one was offered to me not even did I receive a phone call giving me a quote to at least one surgery. I was honest about my back issues I have from a vehicle accident and bad back surgeries as a result I can't stand straight so the extra weight I have from my breast and belly make it more challenging to stand straight. I have to have my back fused there is no choice if I want to walk straight again. So to make my back recovery better and faster I have to have some weight taken off from my belly and beast this is why I need to get that done before the back fuse. Well he said he would talk with his team and see how he felt about doing the surgeries. I have no problem with anesthetics I am always getting different procedures done regarding my back. I told him I can provide rec I have no illnesses it's just the back issue well he concentrated more on my piercing than the real reason I was there I was humiliated and judged over my piercing just because he thinks it's disgusting it was so bad he made me cry right there in his office never have I been so humiliated in a so called professional place. His assistant was so much more respectful and at least showed care while it was probably fake at least she did her job. I was treated as if I went to beg for charity for my surgeries or as if I was someone off the streets. Even after all the humiliation I felt, to this day I never received a phone call to at least say "No" that he would not do it. Maybe my money is not green enough however I will NEVER RECOMMEND a place or Dr like him to place and trust a life in his hands. if he can just judge and humiliate someone because of personal preference then he is not the one. I wonder how many people he has done this to? I only have two piercings on my face. The Maryland Monroe above my lip and it's a very small diamond and another by the side of my left eye also very small diamond. Just for that I was taken for granted, disrespected and judged as if I was truly off the street. and if so they are also human and regardless deserve respect. it's a shame how some doctors once they have a name built they forget the oath and reason they choose that career in the first place. I had booked a consultation with O'Brien last week. I paid $250 for some period of time to speak with the individual. After a recent spa experience that did not go well at another establishment I wanted to talk to a plastic surgeon about options re: facial aging. This consultation cost $250, non-refundable. After a ~5 minute conversation in his office during which he rapidly discovered I was probably not there to discuss surgery I was shuffled to a clinical room to discuss my options. As we had moved on from discussing surgical options to really discussing possible fillers, etc. we spent another 5 minutes together where upon I was shuffled out the door. I actually returned with 2 additional questions I was told I would have to wait 30 minutes. After I stated that was not going to happen, the "Dr." acquiesced to see me almost immediately. I was left a voicemail from Dana and immediately called back and spoke to a HORRIBLE RUDE OLDer woman. I didn't even have a chance to make the appt! This dr's office wins the award of the worst managed, hands down. Contacted them to inquire about a procedure and they replied few days later stating there is a $100 consult fee. I replied and waited 3-4 days, no one got back. Then, 2 days later, I got a call from a different assistant who transferred me to Erin's desk where I had to leave a voicemail. A full 10 days later, no one called back. I sent an email to her, to which she replied that she assumed the other lady assisted me (why do you have an answering machine?), and apologized. I replied asking a question about the consult fee in case the dr recommends something else. 5 days later, no response. I am kind of ready to get a procedure done, and all I know is that it's been delayed due to pure negligence. So now I'm turning to another doctor. Now imagine if you get a procedure done at Dr O'Brien's and no one gets back to you for a more serious matter.... as for the consult fee, I have never seen a surgeon charge $100 to get your business. I was having problems with my sciatic nerve locking, felt like I pulled a muscle every other week. I decided to get some fat off my waist and back. I'm fairly slim but was afraid of bending in case I pulled a muscle. 1300 grams of fat from my waist and back taken out some 8 months ago. I was a patient of Dr. John O'Brien's 12 years ago and to this day, I am still suffering physically, mentally, and financially from the absolute nightmare of an experience I had. He performed a rhinoplasty, neck/chin lipo, and a chin implant. Not long after the surgery, I noticed that my nose appeared to be bulging on one side. He ended up performing another procedure to correct it, saying it was just extra scar tissue that had to be removed. However, even after the 2nd procedure, it continued to get worse, until it was apparent that the problem wasn't just a bulge on one side, it was that my nose was literally falling over to the side, picture a train falling off the tracks. That was my face. The tip of my nose no longer had enough support and was basically collapsing on my face and just hanging over to the side. It was unbearable to have to look at myself day after day. I finally had to have a revision done, though it took me SEVERAL YEARS to save up enough money to cover the cost, and I was no where even close to paying off the first surgery partly because I was misled about some of the details of the Care Credit account I had to open to cover that! So now I had doubled my debt, and doubled my monthly costs - on a teacher's salary. Speaking of teaching, part of the reason I got the surgery was to help my self-esteem before going into the lion's den which is middle school, but NOTHING is missed by those students, and instead of me having a confident and assertive demeanor, it was a constant struggle to not let everyone know how embarrassed and timid I actually felt because, due to the appearance of my nose, they said it was hard to take me seriously because I looked like SHREK, and I was called Mrs. SHREK for the entire year. Needless to say, my nose is not the only thing that is permanently scarred. So, there I was having yet ANOTHER surgery done on my nose. The doctor who performed the revision had to remove cartilage from my ear and put it in my nose to provide support and structure to the tip. The surgery came out ok. It was a HUGE improvement, but there is only so much you can do with what you have to work with, and it's clear that my nose is definitely permanently botched. It is still crooked, it still leans slightly to the side, there is still a slight "bulge" to it on the side right above my nostril, one nostril still sits lower than the other and they will never ever be even again. There will never be anything symmetrical about my nose ever again, and sadly, another revision is just not an option for me since I have now had THREE surgeries on my nose, and I would never be able to afford it anyway. My nightmare doesn't end there, however, because around the same time, I started noticing a lump in my gums that continued to grow until I eventually started seeing a blue color. I kept calling them about this until they finally said ok come in so we can look at it. Well, when they looked at it, they realized that it was the actual implant that had broken through and was sticking out of my gums! It was obviously placed wrong, but it was only poking out of my gums on one side, because it was also CROOKED! To remedy this, he did not go back in and reposition the implant correctly, he just had me come to the office where he cut the piece off that was sticking out and stitched up gums - while I was wide awake. I can still just barely feel a tiny lump at the very bottom of my gums, which the dentist also confirmed was the tip of the implant. I now have gum recession occurring along my lower teeth and I am scared to death that this big blue plastic thing is going to break through and start sticking out of my gums again! All I can say is I decided to get surgery in the first place in pursuit of increased self-confidence, but if anything, it has led to decreased confidence, extreme embarrassment, physical pain, discomfort, and near financial ruin. It was SO uncomfortable writing this review and sharing all of these humiliating details with the world, but the story is true and people deserve to hear it so they can make more informed decisions. So, yeah, one star because negative one isn't an option. read more

I would just like to let Dr. John J O'Brien know that his office staff that answers the phone are highly unprofessional. I called because I wanted to make an appointment for a breast reconstruction consult. I made 3 calls in total to his offices yesterday 10/21/19. Call #1 The woman who answered the phone was chewing her food while trying to speak to me. I was then told that he doctor doesn't take my insurance. I told her that was ok I can go out of network for the right doctor. She insisted that she could not get Bay Front Hospital to admit me or schedule a procedure without the doctor being in network . I called both the Hospital and my insurance company and they both told me she was incorrect, I called her back in between these calls to let her know, She sad she didn't want me to waste my money on a consult Call #3 to her, She states the doctor no longer does breast reconstruction. I told her that the doctor should probably correct his website and remove the page that states that he does, What a waste of time and energy with the rudest person imaginable. Do bother calling this office if you are in need of a breast reconstruction after having a Mastectomy. Apparently he is too busy to correct this website and his employees. read more

I am no stranger to plastic surgery, and have had several procedures done on my body over many years, both invasive and non-invasive (breast reduction, augmentation, liposuction, botox, coolsculpting, etc.), but I was afraid to do anything to my face. I'd had an accident in my 20s that left one eyebrow much lower than the other, and my eyelids both looked heavy, prompting people to ask me all the time if I was tired. I started looking into what I could do to improve the tired appearance and level out my eyebrows in November 2018. I met with Dr. O'Brien as part of that, and he made several suggestions about what I could do, such as a brow lift and upper blepharoplasty, but he also did not pressure me to do anything. In addition, I asked about ultherapy, another non-invasive treatment. Dr. O explained that I was not a candidate for the treatment because I have a pacemaker, and he would not even consider it (which I respect and appreciate). So I stuck with Botox for the time. I did look into a few other local surgeons in St. Pete. I was frustrated that their websites lacked information about the most modern ways to perform the procedures, and when I tried to reach out to some of them, I either could not get through, didn't get a response, or if I did get a response, it was like I was an inconvenience. It was no question that I was going back to talk to Dr. O'Brien. My husband had been very against my doing anything to my face, and when I told him I was considering the brow lift and blepharoplasty suggested by Dr. O'Brien, he agreed to at least come with me to the 2nd consult (mostly to try to talk me out of it). Once we got there, Dr. O explained the entire process to both of us, and answered all the questions my husband had. One of our concerns was that I would look overdone or have that "duck face" look. Dr O'Brien explained how I would really look like myself, just more awake with better symmetry, and that is exactly what happened. I had a brow lift and upper blepharoplasty in his beautiful and comfortable surgical center in St Pete. I had laser resurfacing at the same time, and my skin looks beautiful. The follow-up care with Dr. O'Brien and his staff was spectacular. They are all so friendly and welcoming, and the entire staff works together to make sure I can maintain my results. This doctor is very good for small procedures-but I would steer clear from any kind of face lift. He tried to convince me I needed an eyebrow lift even though my face had other problems. I'm beyond disappointed with Dr. Obrien. He did my breast revision and upon hearing that I wasn't happy with the size and results he said he could do another surgery and only charge the OR and anesthesia fees. After a few months he did not keep his word and said he would do the surgery but at full price again! Now I'm unhappy with my breast and took me a long time to save up for the surgery in the first place. I was referred by a friend who had fantastic results on her face and eye surgery by Dr. O'Brien. His office staff and on site nurses are great and the anesthologist group he uses is top notch. I was offered a tour of the onsite surgery suite and recovery area and was very impressed with the cleanliness and state of the art equipment.
