I was disappointed with the MONEY FIRST, HIGH COST approach from this dental office. I had a root canal done there and it was not cheap, but even worse, the root canal became infected they said, and had to be extracted. The worst part was that I had to take out a loan for what I thought was going to be an extraction and then to be given a dental implant. I felt misinformed because I apparently paid thousands of dollars just to have the root canal extracted and to have a temporary (very uncomfortable) flipper (temporary partial denture) or a temporary bridge put in, but no real tooth! I did not feel my health was the priority but rather just collecting the money for what felt like an incomplete process. I asked the financial office manager for a callback but never got one to explain the situation. I get calls from them about needing a teeth cleaning but I explained I still felt I was overcharged and have a missing tooth gap still over a year later and feel very sad about it. The team and Dr are very capable but it feels that the balance sheet is still more important than customer health. I found another Dentist who was shocked at what happened to me and he said he would give a credit to any of his patients for the cost of the initial root canal if it goes bad (apparently 10% do) but I got not such offer from this office and no callback to explain the thousands of dollars spent just to take out the bad root canal and provide an uncomfortable temporary that I was supposed to place in my mouth every time I ate. read more

I have been a patient with Dr Chavez for only a few months now, but I've seen such better results than with any other provider. He is attentive, friendly, and makes office visits feel relaxing. I found out about Dr. Chaves by happenstance and wasn't actively looking for a new dentist due to the hassle of the process alone. A podcaster I had listened to over the years and knew to be well informed, with high standards when it came to physical health had mentioned Dr. Chaves by name. Didn't think anything of it until the other podcast co-host mentioned he took his advice a month or so down the road, and went to see him. Clearly didn't seem like an advertisement (because his name wasn't mentioned that second time). These two are very clear about their sponsorships and they're almost always written by said sponsor as a common business practice. Needless to say, 3 years+ later now as a patient, and my negative preconceived notions and experiences from past dentists have vanished. Any time there's been a potential cost to me as the patient, Dr. Chaves discussed the options, without trying to sell me. Strictly informational and genuine advice was given. Even if your decision is to go against immediate treatment, he and his team accommodated and reassessed the best path taking the patients wishes directly into account. You won't find an office front end or back end that communicates better with one another, along with patients when it comes to scheduling. They're in constant radio contact in the office and I've yet to encounter miscommunications as for the purpose of my visits. Since I mentioned scheduling, a previous general pet peeve of mine is arriving (early even)only to sit and wait well past your appointment start time. Never has been an issue here however. A rarity. The intent of this review wasn't necessarily for general dentistry, despite it being the best I've found. This is an Invisalign review. This was my second attempt at it, the first resulting in me quitting mid treatment, fault being my own (and at a different orthodontist completely). I was dreading it nonetheless when I mentioned it to Dr. Chaves and did so reluctantly, looking for a reason not to pursue it. He very quickly put my concerns/hesitation at ease, and promised me it would be done in 3-4 months, if I did my part. This time it was on me to hold up my end. As funny as it sounds, the staff and doctor(s) make you want to be a better patient by offering genuine encouragement without being obnoxious or infantilizing you. When improvements have needed to be made, they were expressed, and I felt zero judgement/embarrassment. Having said ALL that, Jenni is the in-house all-star when it comes to Invisalign, and handled mine with care and professionalism. As of now, it's been nearly 4 months and I just had them removed last week. Couldn't be happier with the results. I held up my end, and they held up theirs. How it should be. Even if you aren't looking for a new dentist/orthodontist because you're indifferent and it's an occasional unpleasant inconvenience, it really doesn't have to be. I wasn't going to write a review but due to the recent calls and messages, I am. I have incredible dental insurance. My insurance covers 80% of in network PPO providers. Around Feb 2025, I contacted this office and confirmed they were in my network and they said they are. I needed a replacement crown. I asked them to share with me the estimate BEFORE I come in for my appointment. They said sure. I come in on the day of my appointment and of course they're telling my I need to pay $1200. Ridiculous. They tried to charge me the full price of a crown despite my repeated clarifications that my insurance covers 80%. They received the letter from my insurance clarifying that I only pay 20% of the total cost of a crown and they seemed to reject this explanation and refused to call my insurance for some reason? Like they didn't believe me? They're literally contracted at that rate with my insurance. They were trying to make me pay the full price by putting me on the spot the day or my appointment. I refused and rescheduled. I didn't get my dental work done until the following month because of this constant back and forth. All they needed to do was call my insurnace. The office made me feel like I was a problem or being difficult when this office tried to make me pay the entire cost of the crown when I only needed to pay 20%. I know woodland hills is an affluent area and it might be chump change for some, but that's a lot of money to me. I work very hard for my money. I kept the big fat I TOLD YOU SO to myself when I paid $154 for the cost of my crown. I just want to state that Dr Nikita Shams (who did my crown and fillings) and the dental assistant who helped were very nice, accommodating and down to earth. I have nothing negative to say about them. The overall business-y money hungry atmosphere of this dental office is extremely off-putting. They keep contacting me to schedule an appointment. A couple weeks ago, I finally answered and told them I'm not returning to this office for future dental work and the person on the phone was like "Ok I need to let my manager know" Like what? Leave me alone. I get another call and text today to let me know they have "open slots for appointments" despite my very clear message that I won't be returning. I know this office focuses on cosmetic dental stuff so maybe the business approach works for that specific clientele but definitely not for the normal people like me that go to the dentist because they are unwell/in pain. Maybe I just chose the wrong office but that's why I won't be returning. read more

I'll give you pros first. Amazing dentist. The office and the staff are experts at what they do. They really do take care of you. They know what they are doing and for a nervous dentist patient, I felt at ease. So no problem there at all. I can't say enough good things about their dentists. The cons. Their accounting. Multiple times over the years I felt uneasy. The latest, and the reason I will not be going back, is being told "to not worry about it" walking out of the office ready to pay at that time and then getting slapped with a $900 bill 2 months later when I wasn't able to pay then. Claiming insurance didn't cover it. Would have been nice to know sooner. And would have been nice to have been given the choice of how much it would have cost. And getting threatened to be sent to collections was also beautiful being a loyal customer of 20 years who did promo videos. SO if you do end up going here, make sure you pay attention and ask. read more

I came to Dr. Chaves after a few years without visiting a dentist. I had been sitting on a temporary crown/filling after a root canal for 2 years when I first arrived. Dr. Chaves and his team were extremely helpful in getting a permanent crown made, placed, and shaped. He took such amazing care when shaping the crown to make sure my bite felt even and there were no jagged pieces, even offering to have me come back if I notice any issues with my bite to shave it down as needed. After having the crown placed I went ahead with Invisalign, which also went without a hitch. I have never been more confident in my smile! read more

A lot of weird things happened when I had been going here. From them telling people my personal medical details without my permission, to putting on my crown in such a way that I had to get it replaced in under a few years, and even when it was replaced, they weren't able to do it properly as I was told the dentist who put the previous crown on took part of the neighboring tooth off, causing even more issues. The Dr was always very kind, but looking back at it, I regret going there. Giving it a two start because they were kind and I feel bad giving them a 1 star. read more
