Pre-op selfie with my loyal surgery buddy Jerome (appendectomy on 7/27/2023)
    Laura E.

Although I am no stranger to John Muir since moving to Walnut Creek 3 years ago, I went to John Muir Concord Campus for the first time to have my appendix out on 07/27/2023. Given that my previous John Muir surgeries were in WC, I was curious how my experience at JMCC would compare. When I was first called back, I was impressed with how big the rooms were in the Short Stay Unit and that the rooms have private bathrooms. Given that I didn't have to stay overnight, I wasn't expecting this type of room at all. The people who took care of me there were Linda, CNA, Sequoia, CNA student, Diane, RN, and Shelby, phlebotomist. Both Diane and Shelby were able to poke me one time each to start an IV and draw blood, respectively. I have small veins so anyone who doesn't have to poke more than once is a winner in my book! I had no idea I was in Short Stay until Denise came to take to pre-op. She was so funny and energetic, which decreased my anxiety a few hours earlier. Once in pre-op, I met with Elena, RN (pre-op), Monica, RN (OR), anesthesiologist Dr. Leung, and surgeon Dr. Lo. Everyone walked me through what to expect and made me feel relaxed. Dr. Leung also called me the day before, which is a first for all of my JM surgeries. Once in the OR, I meet techs/RNs Jonathan and Gabe as well as see the robot (first robotic surgery as most of my previous surgeries were ENT). Thats all I remember in the OR, thanks to the anesthesia. :) Before I knew it, I was in recovery and Dr. Lo said the surgery went well. I was quite sleepy so the only nurse I remember was Myra. I think there might have been one or two other RNs whose names I unfortunately didn't get (my apologies!). My surgery buddy Jerome was quite popular! The doctor I work for operates a lot at JMCC and now I know why. Although I hope not to need surgery anytime soon, I hope I can come back next time I need it. Thanks everyone for taking awesome care of me (and Jerome)!

Shout out to all the amazing and caring staff here at John Muir. From their ER staffs to their in room staff to their food nutrition to their cafeteria staff. They were all on point to provide phenomenal experience. Shout out to their security staff with their quick checkin. I also appreciated they had a full cafeteria with grill and fresh veggies. There's also a coffee kiosk with a barista on site that made my delicious cappuccino. I'm very impressed with John Muir's excellent service. I can't thank you enough. Cheers!

I've reached the age of maintenance. This means I received by first mammogram and have had many rounds of blood tests. I was referred by my regular physician and the scheduling was made very easy. For the blood tests I go through a different website but once you're scheduled its very easy to get in and get out. Make an appointment for blood tests. Do not just show up. As to the mammogram part. I scheduled over the phone with radiology. My first appointments was at night after 7pm. Which is really convenient. It was easy enough. Staff was very helpful and nice. I had to come back for a second mammogram that resulted in a biopsy. That review will be for a different medical facility The second mammogram was more intrusive and reviewed by the radiologist the moment it was completed. They gave me all of the information to schedule the biopsy and what it wall entails. This medical center is conveniently located to my home and office. I can go to get blood taken as early at 7:30am and be at work right at 8:00am. I've had multiple good experiences here and would recommend.

I'm having some severe abdominal pain do I need to make an appointment to go to the ER? And do you guys accept CCHP insurance?

You do not need to make an appointment to go to the Emergency Department. How quickly you are seen may be based on the level of severity of your condition relative to other patients. Our medical centers do accept CCHP.

I had previously made an appointment at a different imaging center and quickly cancelled due to my fear of feeling claustrophobic. I researched open MRI machines and found Medical Insights Diagnostics (Inview Imaging). I scheduled my appointment for a few weeks out and had it today. My appointment was at 10am and I showed up a few minutes prior. I filled out three quick forms and was taken into a changing room where I was able to store my phone, keys, wallet, etc. I was taken into the MRI room and was immediately put at ease with how roomy the open MRI is. I did not have to change into a gown for my scan and I even got to keep my shoes on. I laid down on the table and was given a cushion to go under my legs and two smaller cushions to go next to my head. I was also given ear plugs. I inquired about headphones to listen to music, but because of the scan I was having I was not able to listen to music. Since I was having a brain scan I had to wear a coil over my head, which was comparable to a football helmet. I was handed a "panic ball" that I could squeeze if I needed to be pulled out of the machine and they sent me inside. My scan lasted 20 minutes, but felt much faster. I was able to remain calm the entire time and even opened my eyes a few times. I cannot describe the relief I felt upon finishing my scan and exiting the machine. I grabbed my things, paid, and within 5 minutes I had the CD of the scan. If you have anxiety or claustrophobia I highly recommend coming here for your MRI. The open MRI is spacious and the MRI techs made me feel comfortable. I will be coming back here for any future MRIs.

Not narcotics, not anything fun, not anything sellable on the street... just regular-ass blood pressure meds to keep my heart working. I called it in five days in advance of running out. 5 days. When calling it in I was given no push back or any notion that my meds would not be filled. Not a single hint. So after the five days when I'd run out of such meds I went to the pharmacy to pick up my refill. And turns out only one of the refills was sent. They had to give me loaner pills so I don't drop dead. What the hell is even going on with this office? Ever since they became Muir medical group I can't get my medicine refilled ever without some kind of giant hiccup! These aren't narcotics. These are blood pressure pills so I don't croak! This is so insane. The doctors here are very good. I love my doctor! But this office is so screwed up and unorganized, unethical, and doesn't care someone could just die without their meds.... I'm looking for a new dr now after several incidents regarding refilling my blood pressure meds. Enough is enough. Again these doctors rule! But the office has ruined their practice and made it completely terrible. I have family members that go here that have had the same bad experience with trying to get their meds. I have had multiple situations where I need blood pressure meds and they've been so nonchalant and just "they will get refilled when they get refilled" with zero worry about my physical safety. I'm done. Everyone in this office should be examined for termination. This place is a cesspool for garbage and unethical employees. Everything is about dollars and healthcare means nothing at all. If you work here You should all really reflect on the type of person you are and really analyze what you're okay with. Are you okay with a normal guy dying from cardiac arrest over a mistake you made involving med refills? You are all just cool with a dude dying of a heart attack. This office is the worst thing of the worst. I urge you not to go here. Again, the doctors here rule!!!! But the office is run by nimrods.

I want to acknowledge the people who were wonderful: the intake nurse was kind, Kimberly was absolutely amazing, and the security officer was very helpful and compassionate. Unfortunately, one nurse, Megan, completely changed the experience. Megan was passing by and told me I had to wait in the waiting area. I understand that there are policies, but there is a right way and a wrong way to communicate with people. A simple explanation and a little empathy would have gone a long way. I waited 3 hours in the waiting room. My daughter was in pain, on crutches, and crying. She asked to go to the bathroom and couldn't even open the door. Megan, why didn't you help her? Isn't that exactly the kind of basic assistance and compassion a patient should be able to expect from a nurse? My daughter was vulnerable, hurting, and scared. It is absolutely not okay to treat a patient in that condition like she's an inconvenience. Then I had to take an Uber to the hotel to get her medication and come back. I asked security if I could give the medication to her. Megan came outside, asked what medication she was taking, and then said, "I'll order them." Seriously? If you had simply listened to me and explained that from the beginning, I could have avoided making an unnecessary trip back and forth. I also went to the front desk because I wanted to file a complaint and was told they didn't have a phone number for me to call to make a complaint. That is unbelievable. And then Megan told my daughter that her mom could come inside but couldn't be mean to the staff. Megan, we didn't come to the ER for you. We came because my daughter needed medical care. Your attitude, lack of empathy, and the way you spoke to us were completely unnecessary. A nurse is supposed to provide care, comfort, support, and advocacy for patients when they are at their most vulnerable. Unfortunately, Megan was not that at all. My daughter was there because she needed help annot attitude or judgment. Shame on you, Megan. Thankfully, Kimberly showed us what compassionate nursing actually looks like. She listened to my daughter, helped her, and made her feel heard and seen as a patient. I will always appreciate her for that. This isn't about expecting special treatment or asking staff to break rules. It's about basic human decency, empathy, and patient care. You can enforce policies and still be kind. You can set boundaries without making patients or their families feel like a nuisance. My daughter came to the ER because she needed help. She deserved better.
