My wife was recently treated for kidney stone at John Muir Health in Walnut Creek and Concord. I…read morewould like to describe the outstanding care she received at both locations. Recently, on a Sunday evening, after our daily walk, she complained of unbearable pain in her lower left back. We called the Moraga-Orinda paramedics and they showed up in 3 minutes! She was given pain killers and rushed to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, the closest location for us. At John Muir Emergency Department, she was attended to immediately. The physician, Dr. Kessler, after examining her, immediately opined that it looks like kidney stone! He ordered a CT Scan and a medium to large size kidney stone was confirmed. Dr. Kessler prescribed pain killer, necessary medication and admitted her since the pain was unbearable for her to handle at home. Krystal and Kamala was the first nurse-team we had. They were both excellent, caring and compassionately attended to my wife as often as needed even during the night. After seeing the excruciating pain, they arranged an urologist consulting and a decision was made to do a Ureteroscopy and blast the stone into small fragments/dust. Since this procedure was done only at the Concord location of John Muir, my wife was transported by an excellent ambulance team to Concord location. In Concord, she was given excellent care by RN Mary and RN Emmeline - they were really amazing! My wife needed help often, and the nurses never ever complained (even at night) and helped my wife with a cheerful smile every time! The next two days, she was given outstanding care by Dr. Khan and the nursing team of Sarah and Benjamin. Sarah is very knowledgeable, competent, very compassionate, cheerful and friendly. She followed the protocol strictly for every care-activity and her attention to detail was amazing. For example, she had to check my wife's blood glucose regularly. Every time, Sarah would poke the finger, remove the first drop of blood the comes out with a gauze (since the first drop was in contact with the needle), press the finger to get the next drop and use it to test blood glucose! And, Sarah was training a student nurse and she was painstakingly describing every step of every procedure in great detail to the student while taking excellent care of my wife. The urologist, Dr. Chang, was very friendly, and explained to wife the details of the procedure. His attention to detail was also amazing. Since the kidney stone was in the lest ureter, he used a marker on my wife left leg to highlight that it is the left ureter! The Nurse practitioner from his office, Vivian, scheduled the surgery and communicated with us daily. She showed real concern and empathy for my wife's ordeal. The procedure was successful and the excruciating pain stopped almost immediately afterwards. Dr. Chang had written a detailed description of every step of the procedure in my wife's My Chart - it was comforting to read the detailed report. She was discharged the next day. The care my wife received from the Doctors and Nurses at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and Concord was consistently excellent - the quick/initial diagnosis at ER, confirmation through CT Scan, excellent execution of the procedure by the Urologist and the awesome care she received from the Nursing Team after the procedure - all outstanding! We have lived in Contra Costa County for over thirty years and have had treatments at John Muir Hospital a few times and we experienced excellence every time! We highly recommend John Muir Hospitals and their outstanding team of Physicians and Nurses.

My family member coming off the ambulance was immediately put into a room to be assessed. A nurse came right in to check on her. The doctor was there soon after to talk to us. I was debating if I should leave a review from Monday night when I came!…read moreI came in an ambulance because I literally thought I was having a stroke! I had a heard time breathing and was throwing up water because I couldn't eat all day, I felt so sick! I had a high fever and pain in my chest and head. Ambulance ride there was hell all they had to do was make a right and take me straight to John Muir ER but took me all over downtown couldn't even get my temperature because "their equipment was not working properly" blood pressure cuff from both the ER and ambulance just stayed squishing the my arm felt like it was cutting circulation off! The nurse with long brown hair looked Hispanic or middle eastern I don't know argued with me because she asked me if I wanted dollotted pain medication. I told her no they gave it to me already she argued nobody gave it to you. I said yes the man who put my IV in did. She said no. Not once swabbed for Covid someone else had to ask them to do it! Told them I had a hard time breathing. Nothing- put an IV in hella rough then the same nurse towards the end put the blood pressure cuff from one arm to almost cover my IV with it which I ended up ripping off because it was digging my IV in more. I was in so much pain I ended up passing out from the pain medication which I hate taking I never take but that night I couldn't stand it! When I fell asleep and woke up hours later the same nurse I asked if I could have soon medicine told me I offered you dolotted you said NO I told her because SOMEONE ALREADY gave it to me! Then she finally decided to look at the chart and was like oh they did! Damn nightmare! This is why I hate the ER too many bad experiences- I had some good and bad at concord which my dr told me to go in an ambulance from my drs appointment which I replied no because of the last experience and told her I would go tonight if it got worse (12/12/25) which I doubt I want to go after this last time. There were like two ladies that were nice and the last nurse but I don't know what was wrong with that lady arguing about pain medication are you trying to overdose people? I saw the notes they put and I'm like I had way more symptoms than that They told me I had rhino virus at first then the next day turned into the flu- definitely do not like the ER and passed on going today because of the horrible experience Monday I had pain in my whole right side head, could barely walk because I had shooting pains in my leg the guy in the ambulance said we witnessed her move her limbs and walk like nobody said I couldn't walk I said I had a hard time pretty sure my neighbors heard me screaming EVERYTIME I had to get up to use the bathroom from the pain I was in I see why all the other bad reviews

While in the ER once the baby arrived, several nurses even offered to take pictures with my phone so I could capture more cherished memories of that magical day. While in recovery awaiting transition to the Mother Baby unit, a nurse stayed behind the whole time after the whole ER team had moved. Ensuring we were monitored and had support the entire way. And never felt alone for a single moment during the entire process. We really appreciated all of the nurses who aided us during our 4-night stay in the Mother Baby unit. Although it was a bit tough to get them to come back to the room sometimes during scheduled check-ups and medications, we recognize that had less to do with the nurses themselves and more than likely a scheduling issue of too many rooms assigned to too few nurses. We did have a slight hiccup during discharge however when we were incorrectly informed that our pediatrician at Sutter would have access to all of our baby's medical files through their MyChart system. This turned out to be false as Sutter stated that they do not have access to that shared system. Thankfully however, my wife had stubbornly insisted on being able to get access to a pdf version of all of the files through her MyChart app before leaving the hospital.

I Got screwed again. Big big surprise. Once again it was…read moretime for refills on my two blood pressure meds so I don't die. Not narcotics, not anything fun, not anything sellable on the street... just regular-ass blood pressure meds to keep my heart working. I called it in five days in advance of running out. 5 days. When calling it in I was given no push back or any notion that my meds would not be filled. Not a single hint. So after the five days when I'd run out of such meds I went to the pharmacy to pick up my refill. And turns out only one of the refills was sent. They had to give me loaner pills so I don't drop dead. What the hell is even going on with this office? Ever since they became Muir medical group I can't get my medicine refilled ever without some kind of giant hiccup! These aren't narcotics. These are blood pressure pills so I don't croak! This is so insane. The doctors here are very good. I love my doctor! But this office is so screwed up and unorganized, unethical, and doesn't care someone could just die without their meds.... I'm looking for a new dr now after several incidents regarding refilling my blood pressure meds. Enough is enough. Again these doctors rule! But the office has ruined their practice and made it completely terrible. I have family members that go here that have had the same bad experience with trying to get their meds. I have had multiple situations where I need blood pressure meds and they've been so nonchalant and just "they will get refilled when they get refilled" with zero worry about my physical safety. I'm done. Everyone in this office should be examined for termination. This place is a cesspool for garbage and unethical employees. Everything is about dollars and healthcare means nothing at all. If you work here You should all really reflect on the type of person you are and really analyze what you're okay with. Are you okay with a normal guy dying from cardiac arrest over a mistake you made involving med refills? You are all just cool with a dude dying of a heart attack. This office is the worst thing of the worst. I urge you not to go here. Again, the doctors here rule!!!! But the office is run by nimrods.

Dr. Carrie McCloskey Plastic Surgery…read more I am not one to write many reviews but this is one I have to do! I had my surgery with Dr. Carrie McCloskey, a surgeon at Walnut Creek Kaiser Permanente, and I honestly couldn't have had a better experience. From the very beginning, she really listened to me. Every concern and request I had was taken seriously, which made me feel so comfortable and confident in my decision. Dr. McCloskey truly cares about her patients, and it shows in her work! My surgery turned out beautifully it was exactly what I hoped for. I'm so grateful for her skill, patience, and attention to detail. I would absolutely recommend Dr. McCloskey to anyone considering plastic surgery. She made the entire experience smooth, reassuring, and positive. I'm so thankful for having such a supportive surgeon like her. I highly recommend Dr. Carrie McCloskey for anyone looking into plastic surgery.

Weeks went by, multiple calls, emails, and I could not get access to care from them. I ended up walking into the ER several times until I was finally able to move my referral to Oakland, where I was seen roughly a week later. The injection clinic has a habit of not scheduling or informing you of secondary vaccination shots. Often you'll leave and have no idea it's part of a set unless you Google it and follow up with your primary on your own for them to order the shot. I was re-matched with a provider I'd made a complaint against a couple years before. This pushed my appointment out 6 months because the appointment was then labeled a "second opinion" - I switched to Oakland and saw someone immediately. With Kaiser CA, if your primary is out of office no one else can or will refer to you a specialist. The receiving department can forward along an existing referral to another office, but that's your only option outside of simply switching to another provider. You're out of luck until your doc comes back from Hawaii. This year I finally started paying cash to see John Muir specialists where I can schedule in appointments without a referral and see someone within days. I can't even describe how much it has improved my overall health. So as of January 2026 we are leaving for a different insurance company - Bon Voyage Kaiser.

I fully understand why healthcare executives get shot. With literally EVERY procedure, even on the same day, it's the same paperwork. Take a lesson from Kaiser on how to do paperwork that's good for more than one procedure (even though Kaiser can't do the actual healthcare part very well). What would be perfect is the administrative part like Kaiser with the healthcare part by John Muir. Also, I had surgery at John Muir Concord 5 months ago, and even though I'd already completed all of the forms online to get the paperwork done, I got harrassed 3 times the day before the surgery while I was at work: one phone call to ask if I followed the pre-op procedures who spoke to me like I was 5 years old (not all persons in ther 70s are senile!); one call to ask me yet again about other insurance money sources (dialing for dollars) and to remind me of my financial obligations on paperwork I'd already completed (so I then just paid it upfront to get them to leave me alone but frustratingly I was again asked about money the morning of the surgery AFTER I'd paid it); plus a separarte email about paperwork and $. For God's sake! I was already losing a lot of work time with the surgery itself and now I'm hassled while at work while trying to get things done before the surgery!
