I got Dr. Thanh Nguyen-Dinh, and now this 2.9 Yelp score makes sense. Usually, I take a lot of these reviews with a grain of salt, but no, the reviews are pretty accurate for Dr. Dinh. He basically said toes can be badly bruised without a fracture. Yes, in the condescending way other reviews have described. I spent maybe 3min talking with him. He sent me to x-ray, and I asked what I do then? He said, the results should be back in about an hour. To go home, and if I have a fracture, to put a band aid on it to stick it to the other toe. So yes, it's true, the other toe serves as a splint, but I went to CVS and bought some medical tape. I looked up on ChatGPT to learn how to tape my broken toe to the good toe. I cannot stress what a waste of time it was to go to this UC. I could have saved myself a co-pay and an uncomfortable drive and just gone to ChatGPT. I don't even remember being asked if it was painful or asked about the 1-10 pain scale or to describe the pain at all. Just asked how it happened. I didn't get any tape or gauze to put between my toes, not even told how to do it beyond the band-aid comment. The AVS only provides RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevate, which, duh) instructions. I had to dig in the appointment notes to find any *mention of "buddy-taping" but no instructions on how to do it. If John Muir UC is seeing all these reviews of patients saying Dr. Dinh is condescending and dismissive, maybe they should reconsider their relationship with him. I don't think Dr. Dinh believed me when I said I thought I fractured my toe (I've fractured both hands, so I know a thing or two about what a fracture feels like). Then his tone changed completely when he saw the x-ray report and gave me a call back. Then he was "so sorry." Hire more Dr. Buckleys. It's the Dr. Buckleys that will make people want to continue seeing a human instead of relying on AI. I certainly won't be going back to this UC in case there's a chance I get Dr. Dinh again. The x-ray tech was was alright. Not personable, but I didn't need him to be. Did his job, and that's fine - that's why 2 stars instead of 1. Getting an x-ray confirmation was the only thing that didn't make this trip a 100% waste of time.

My family member coming off the ambulance was immediately put into a room to be assessed. A nurse came right in to check on her. The doctor was there soon after to talk to us. Recently, on a Sunday evening, after our daily walk, she complained of unbearable pain in her lower left back. We called the Moraga-Orinda paramedics and they showed up in 3 minutes! She was given pain killers and rushed to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, the closest location for us. At John Muir Emergency Department, she was attended to immediately. The physician, Dr. Kessler, after examining her, immediately opined that it looks like kidney stone! He ordered a CT Scan and a medium to large size kidney stone was confirmed. Dr. Kessler prescribed pain killer, necessary medication and admitted her since the pain was unbearable for her to handle at home. Krystal and Kamala was the first nurse-team we had. They were both excellent, caring and compassionately attended to my wife as often as needed even during the night. After seeing the excruciating pain, they arranged an urologist consulting and a decision was made to do a Ureteroscopy and blast the stone into small fragments/dust. Since this procedure was done only at the Concord location of John Muir, my wife was transported by an excellent ambulance team to Concord location. In Concord, she was given excellent care by RN Mary and RN Emmeline - they were really amazing! My wife needed help often, and the nurses never ever complained (even at night) and helped my wife with a cheerful smile every time! The next two days, she was given outstanding care by Dr. Khan and the nursing team of Sarah and Benjamin. Sarah is very knowledgeable, competent, very compassionate, cheerful and friendly. She followed the protocol strictly for every care-activity and her attention to detail was amazing. For example, she had to check my wife's blood glucose regularly. Every time, Sarah would poke the finger, remove the first drop of blood the comes out with a gauze (since the first drop was in contact with the needle), press the finger to get the next drop and use it to test blood glucose! And, Sarah was training a student nurse and she was painstakingly describing every step of every procedure in great detail to the student while taking excellent care of my wife. The urologist, Dr. Chang, was very friendly, and explained to wife the details of the procedure. His attention to detail was also amazing. Since the kidney stone was in the lest ureter, he used a marker on my wife left leg to highlight that it is the left ureter! The Nurse practitioner from his office, Vivian, scheduled the surgery and communicated with us daily. She showed real concern and empathy for my wife's ordeal. The procedure was successful and the excruciating pain stopped almost immediately afterwards. Dr. Chang had written a detailed description of every step of the procedure in my wife's My Chart - it was comforting to read the detailed report. She was discharged the next day. The care my wife received from the Doctors and Nurses at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and Concord was consistently excellent - the quick/initial diagnosis at ER, confirmation through CT Scan, excellent execution of the procedure by the Urologist and the awesome care she received from the Nursing Team after the procedure - all outstanding! We have lived in Contra Costa County for over thirty years and have had treatments at John Muir Hospital a few times and we experienced excellence every time! We highly recommend John Muir Hospitals and their outstanding team of Physicians and Nurses.

She ordered X-rays and thought it may be a bacterial infection.. she wrote me a prescription for antibiotics. I do appreciate her. She was awesome. They do not have xray here. You must go elsewhere. X-rays came back clear. I started antibiotics. Good news! It seemed to work! My foot was getting better! I was already writing my 5 star review! Now for the bad, Then, after I stopped taking them, pain started getting worse again. Just need a refill so the rest of the infection goes away. To be clear the meds I am speaking of are used for acne and the like (bacteria). They are not pain meds or anything someone would want too much of. The app they have you use is not connected to a human and has been very frustrating. The app also allowed me to ask for a refill automatically with no response at all. They are not returning my phone call. I find this very unprofessional. It appears they won't help me at all until I make another appointment! Which of course costs $$$. I shouldn't have to make another appointment even virtual and pay you more money to show you the same thing. All that does is waste my time and money and double your profit. They were quick and convenient but not effective. I will go John Muir urgent care from now on. Rounded up to 3 stars because Madison figured it out.

There was staffing shortage so that created some delays. Shea Gillan PA-C was a wonderful clinician - warm, attentive, efficient. I would use this facility again, however, one thing is they do not have imaging capacity. So if you think you might need x-rays, might want to seek elsewhere for purposes of a consolidated visit in the already difficult situation.
