There is a reason why John Paul designs is five star. It all begins when you walk into the store, sweetly greeted by the lady, Amy. She gives nice direct eye contact, friendly, beyond a pure joy. "The master" could not have a better representation for him and his almost cult like followers. When you buy John Paul you will always be going back for more. Be it for jewelry. Modifications, and/or of course, the real bonus; the Charmingly stoic, John Paul. When meeting the Desiiiiigner, John Paul, well I am not sure his horn could be tooted any louder. You might not get to meet him personally right off and there is good reason. Being a perfectionist certainly works to our favor, the customer. He takes his work very seriously, very personally. The finished product has always been beyond what I had envisioned. I've said to others "Its almost as if I'm a driving hazard after I pick up my new beauty. I can't stop staring at it. It's something special. Always different. If one can be so lucky he will add a little personal touch. These last two weekends I've gone to parties. I've never ever had so many compliments on a ring. (It's new) Lots of men which generally is not the norm, however, this ring has been a huge conversation piece. One gentleman asking me to take it off. Proclaiming he could care less about jewelry TISK TISK And said how pretty it was while putting it on his pinky. The shop certainly is not centrally located for me. And parking downtown is amazingly fun, however they always make it worth my while one way or another. Some sweet cheap (not really cheap in the long run) entertainment and many laughs. There are many other nice jewelry shops in Bend, however for this born and raised incorrigible lady there can only be one top jeweler. The Bravo channel should do a reality show. JP has made custom pieces for us on two occasions. Five years ago he made our wedding rings, incorporating an heirloom diamond into mine. JP listened to make certain he was incorporating all the elements that were important to us, gave great recommendations and explanations about materials, and then let his creativity take it from there. More recently I dropped off another heirloom ring when I was in Bend in September (we live in Homer, Alaska). JP created a modern piece, that matches my style while honoring the original design. My husband and I went into the store mid December with a special design request for a pendant for our daughter's soon to be completed masters degree in forestry. John Paul had a brilliant idea for a meaningful piece. Even though it was the middle of the holiday season he created it and personally inscribed it within one week so we had it to give to her on her important day. She loved it! I have used John Paul Designs for many projects over the years and he has always been so easy and fun to work with, has great ideas and is able to create amazing pieces that other people have said were impossible. My latest project with him was to re-make my wedding ring using old family diamonds and gold from my mother-in-law's wedding ring. While walking toward Deschutes brewing my wife uttered "A jewelry store let's check it out !" The smell of IPA had me in a daze and I quickly agreed hoping it would not take long. Upon entering I quickly realized this was no ordinary jewelry store. The jewelry is very unique and it's crafted with artistry, ingenuity, and inventiveness. John Paul has a style of his own. Nothing in the store looked mass produced. As a chemical engineer I found his work with metals truly impressive. For example, some of the rings are turned on a lathe giving them a industrial artistic look that captured my eye from a distance. We purchased a necklace for my wife and it set the mood for the whole trip. She can't take it off ! I'm positive we will return for another purchase in the near future. The woman who sold us the piece was very professional and did not push us to buy. Instead, she explained how the jewelry was made and made us feel as though we were in a museum looking at artifacts. She seemed very knowledgeable and showed us pictures of past designs that were very impressive. I ordered a custom pendant using one of my own stones from John Paul Designs after coming across his shop while visiting Bend, OR. The pendant is perfect in every way and I have not gone a day without wearing it. Everyone was courteous and professional at the shop. I have almost the exact same story as the previous reviewer. We were just starting a 2 week vacation on our way to the Hood, walking by John Paul Designs while waiting to eat at Deschutes Brewery. But this is where the story changes because they were closed. In his window was the most gorgeous, completely different necklace I ever did see. It was 33% bad ass, 33% sweet & 34% THIS IS GONNA LOOK SO GOOD AROUND MY NECK!! Since they were closed, my husband & I returned the next day after riding Phil's Loop. John Paul was in and was very nice and professional. I tried it on and was immediately in love. Now this is saying a lot considering I own 4 pieces of real jewelry; my wedding ring, a ring & necklace from my grandmother and a watch.
