I purchased a used Trailblazer in October and less than 5 days later the brakes failed while I was driving home on 20, going 70mph. I had to use the emergency brake to stop on the side of the road. The mechanic it was towed to said the brake line was completely rusted out and needed to be replaced. The manager at JT Chevrolet told me I bought the car 'as is' and they had no obligation to repair it. They called me back a little while later saying if I could get it towed there, they'd fix it as a gesture of goodwill. Fine, the brakes are still very soft, but I'm at least able to stop. Last month while changing the battery, I found that instead of a metal super connector, there was a literal piece of lamp cord that had been stripped on both ends. Additionally, I had to replace two tires due to slow leaks, the washer fluid reservoir is completely cracked, the belt was cracked and worn, and I had to replace the headlights. There is a oil pressure error on it now and it leaks slowly. I've probably spent more on it than its worth at this point. I would never recommend buying a used vehicle here. They clearly just washed it and threw it on the lot without opening the hood or checking under it, at all. These are things that even a Jiffy Lube would notice but apparently their service department cannot. If I could go back to October, I'd buy somewhere else. I just don't feel safe in the vehicle, but also don't feel comfortable selling it to someone else, because unlike John Thornton Chevrolet, I have principles. read more

When you hear about those dealerships that really make you take it up the arse when buying a used car.... this is one of them. Nothing but a bunch of liars including the sales person Tyler and the service manager Derek. 1. I bought a certified preowned camaro there. They never did the inspection to begin with...they just checked the boxes falsifying documents which is against the law. 2. They lied on Carfax saying they did repairs when they didnt do that until I was there buying it and I could see it wasn't done.... again falsifying documents. 3. Took it to another dealer because it was still vibrating after John Thornton service looked at it a 2nd time and said "oh its probably just a bent wheel". Didn't even fix it. The other dealer told me all 4 wheels were bent and that it would be $3k to replace them. 4. John Thornton told me they would replace all 4 wheels with new ones to bring it in. I get a call from Kurt stating the front wheels weren't bent and that they were only going to refurbish my back ones. 5. A week after driving it the AC stopped working on this CERTIFIED PREOWNED CAR! 6. Let's not forget about the financing girl who told me when I came in her office that my payment would be X amount of dollars which was double what it should be without telling me she had added in all the warranties and service without ever asking me if I wanted them. Just said this is your payment OK. Had I not questioned why my payment was double the price and just signed for my car I would have never known she added all of that in. I asked her to take it out and she then gave me another amount that still had things rolled into it and did this a 3rd and 4th time after repeatedly telling her NO and to take everything put! Most dealerships show you a paper asking what you want to add. Not this dealership...they just take you for all your worth hiding it all. Wrong person to try that with when I have bought 20 cars! 7. I saw an ad on Facebook and reached out to Amber for help getting a car. I explained my situation, and Osha also assisted me. I was hesitant to let them run my credit due to my obstacles, but I decided to proceed. Initially, the service was good, but it declined after they ran my credit. I had to contact them multiple times for updates after being told they were checking with the finance department. Eventually, I was informed that I would need to put down $14k for a $23k car, which I find unreasonable. I was promised a callback and alternative solutions before my credit was checked, but that didn't happen. I expect the same courtesy as those with good credit. Overall, I'm very dissatisfied with the service I received at this dealership. What a waste of a hard pull on my credit. What can improve is being honest and keeping your word. read more

We brought our car to Meineke, got the same service, it was $4000 less and was ready in 2 days. Thornton was going to be a little more than $7000, would not have been ready for over 2 weeks and they tried to upsell us to a new car instead of fixing the car we have. On November 27 2023 @ approximately between 1100-1120. I arrived to John Thorton Chevrolet from an hour and a half drive from Buford GA /Suwanee area. Apon arriving to the dealership and exiting my vehicle, I was complemented and asked multiple times if I was interested in trading in my vehicle (1500 Chevrolet Badlander custom a 98k truck) I stated No! But during my interaction with the sales associate I let him know that I would be trading in my C7 corvette.I then informed the sales associate my reasoning for visiting the establishment and asked for directions to utilize the restroom. Before even seeing the vehicle (BMW M6 2018), I was asked to give my information to the sales associate.. Might I remind you I have not even looked at the car nor have had a walk around to determine if I'd like to proceed further. After being baggered into giving my information (DL, photo I.D. Name, address) I came to the realization I'd have to present this information anyway to obtain a test drive as I have many times with other dealership given such information to test drive the vehicle. After entering my information into the computer and making a copy of my D.L. the sales associate processed to get the keys asked me to meet him out front (car was already for viewing infront of the building in a secured lot but you were able to walking around it ect). The associate arrived with the vehicle, parking it by the side entrance door. As I await, I approached the vehicle and started looking over it (inspecting exterior and underneath the hood engine compartment, rear exhaust, and listening to the motor). The sales associate called another associate out to help him put the vehicle in the park. After asking some mechanical questions and giving him information to put the vehicle in park, etc. I then wanted to proceed with the test driving of the vehicle. The sales associate proceed in asking me questions , which I felt had nothing to do with the sale of this vehicle. Such questions like "have you ever bought or owned BMW before ect He then stated he'd have to check with the manager to see if a test drive was possible because it is a high end car (48k with 48k miles +, BMW M6). I felt racial discrimination against during this process. As the associate went in to ask, I got up set and left to my 98k truck. As I was leaving, he ran after me along with the financial manager and asked why I was leaving. I told him because yall were full of shit. Grabbed the keys, brought the vehicle around, and prepared me for a test drive, asking me questions that had nothing to do with the sale of this vehicle, etc. When the accounting manager asked the associate why I leave he told them that I did not like the vehicle and I was not interested. I immediately stopped my vehicle and corrected him, letting me know that his associate just lied. I LEFT BECAUSE I WAS RACIALLY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST as if I could not afford the vehicle or steal it. Later I received a call from the GM trying to clean up the situation saying taking my information down before viewing the vehicle and asking questions like that is protocol and he was just trying to get to know me. After that the phone hung up and I have not heard anything back. So yes, I'm going to sue them for Racial Discrimination ect. I served this country with honor with 17 years of active duty, 4 combat tours, disgusting service awards, and metals. I HAVE NEVER FETLT LIKE THIS EVER IN MY LIFE! We purchased a car here in February. I currently own a Chevy from another dealership and never had any problems as much as my brother is having. First after purchasing the car, two weeks later he went back because there was a odd smell coming from the a.c., it is covered because the car is still under warranty and gm certified but he was asked to prove it. * we got the car from them, so I didn't understand why it wasn't in the system* So he had to return with the original paperwork the following week on his day off. Next, he had to go up there MULTIPLE times on his one day off to sign paperwork. Which I think was a waste of his off days, since it could have been said from the start what was needed. FYI the customer service at this location was very rude each time speaking to my brother. * Not everyone was rude, I will mention the names of the rude personnel before* Then there was a tag issue. The written tag expired on March 30th. And the new tag never came in the mail. *They turned in the paperwork with the incorrect address* The two people ( Larry Hydrick and Daniel Ramsdell ) were EXTREMELY RUDE. There is always a certain way you can talk to the CUSTOMER to explain why the dealership can not write a new tag, so that we are not driving on a expired tag. But Larry Hydrick and Daniel Ramsdell were more in their ego instead of LISTENING to what was needed and not treating my brother as a random person off the street. I'm big on customer service and believe it's the back bone of every successful company. But after dealing with Larry Hydrick and Daniel Ramsdell, I will not be referring any of my veteran friends to this location. I should be excited to finally have my 2024 Corvette C8. I put down a deposit just to order the car 14 months ago. The car finally came in 10/6/2023, I picked it up from the dealer 10/10/23 traded my 2023 C8 added $2400 from my bank card drove home radio not working, took it back to dealership 10/11/23 got it back 10/14/23. On 10/23/23 I received a call from Justin Scott in the finance Dept who said they had miscalculated the payoff on my 2023 C8 & that I owed an additional $460 immediately or he would report the car stolen to Douglas County P D., so after hearing this I pulled out my paperwork to do my own calculations and not only did I not owe them $460 they owe me $540 and they want me to wait to get that. I asked Bernie to have Justin apologize to me face to face he said he would. Justin called to ask if I was coming strapped with a weapon( I replied this is not a joking matter). When my wife and I arrived at the dealership Justin told us he was sorry for doing his job, he treats all customer the same we are no different. We purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox from John Thornton less than a month ago. I'll share two aspects of our experience with them. SALES: - Our appointment for the trade in was honored and everyone was timely. We were able to test drive the vehicle and asked TONS of questions about the conditioned of this "certified" car. We were shown the certification and assured that we were getting a great car. The manager even gave us this rehearsed...I mean... nice story about how they were a better option than Carmax although they don't offer 7 day returns on their vehicles. They also boasted on their 125 point inspection and compared themselves to Carmax saying Carmax doesn't inspect their vehicles as meticulously as they do. AFTER THE SALE: - After purchasing our "certified" vehicle, we didn't drive it for a few days due to various reasons. However, about 2 weeks ago, my husband began driving his car and was super excited. UNTIL, today. He realized the alternator was DYING (less than 30 days after purchase) and we were hit with a $700 price tag for repair!!! Mind you, our vehicle is out of warranty and even if we would have purchased the additional warranty, we were told we weren't guaranteed it'd be covered! We are people who give praise where praise is due and truly love referring customers. So hear us when we say... STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP!!! I contacted John Thornton in Lithia Springs GA to purchase a '20 Silverado Custom. I negotiated a deal with them over the phone and spoke with Dino the Sales Manager to confirm the deal. We all know how car dealers are regarding shady and shafty practices, but these guys sounded different. They were organized and responded promptly and they were very friendly. But, nevertheless, I asked for them to commit to the deal in writing and send it to me via email... which they did. The deal got off initially with a rocky start of sorts with the salesperson misrepresenting the equipment on the vehicle, but the sales manager quickly corrected the 'too eager to make a sale' salesperson and promised to get the deal back on course. On paper it was a good deal. They called me the day before I was scheduled to arrive to pick up the truck and 3 times the day of the appt to confirm my arrival at 6pm. They told me they would have the car cleaned and ready to go when I arrived. I called them at 5p to say I was on my way. They said no problem. Then before I got their I received another call stating they allowed someone to test drive my car and they ending up "driving off with it". I didn't understand driving off with as it sounded like they stole it. It was a more gentile way of saying, 'We sold your damn car!'. But they profusely apologized and said don't worry we will have another one for you by Monday. We do dealer trades all the time and we will honor the price and the build lol. So, why am I writing to tell other folks about these guys? You guessed it. They had no intentions of honoring their screw up or shady shafty promises. They advertise 'family' owned big name road named after us, family owned, long time employee population, blah blah blah, but in reality they are your typical 'cigar smoking' shifty slick used car dealers. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT and took my car for a diagnostic on Nov 28, Tuesday for an engine light and for a tire noise I was hearing, so I left my car for them to look at. I called the next day they said tires needed replaced but they are still looking into the engine light. Called again on Thursday they said they were still working on the engine light. Called Saturday no one answered the phone and it went to voicemail all day long. They were closed Sunday. When I called Monday I found out they lied to me and said they were "working on it and that it's in the shop" finally I got fed up and asked for service records of what they did...THEN they told me the truth..THEY HADNT EVEN LOOKED AT MY CAR FOR THE ENINGE LIGHT ISSUE AT ALL. My car had been sitting. They had my car for a WEEK. When I asked what's going on, they told me they were backed up but never explained this to me when I dropped the car off. If they had told me they would need at least a week I would have taken my car somewhere else but they didn't breathe a word to me. Apparently other service techs told their customers that it can take a few days but my service tech never told me this!! My service tech Ryan NEVER CALLED ME to explain that to me. I then asked for a service manager and a loaner car at this point, but the manager Kurt told me they only have 5 loaner cars and none are available. I needed my car that week for work and they had it and didn't even do a diagnostic for the engine light!! It's a diagnostic for goodness sake it should take an hour, at max, a day to look into. On top of all this they had my car from Nov 17-22 and never diagnosed the engine light issue even then!! I even scheduled an appointment at that time too! Now all together it took them 13 days for a diagnostic that they never even did. I picked up my car and I will not be back! Do yourself a favor and go to anyone else but them and check the reviews. In what planet would I purchase again the same truck that's 5 years YOUNG and requiring $8800 in repairs?! Also, the tires along are worth more. How insulting! And, to think, we bailed them out! I had taken my volt to another Chevrolet and it was going to take them a month an a half to get my car in. I was going to have to tow it to John Thornton, but Bryon, having worked on my car before and actually listening to what was wrong with it, suggested I get the other dealership to charge my car so that I could just dive it to them since nothing was wrong with the battery, just the gas! Saved me about $200, and they are helping me work out a getting a rental car today even though my warranty won't cover my rental car until the problem is diagnosed, and it might be tricky to diagnose! I recently bought a used 2015 VW Passat tsi . I test drove the vehicle it seemed okay,it had a few flaws which they said they would take care of. I was told the car had been completely reconditioned.A few days later the brakes started scrubbing when I would do a lot of driving.So I took the car back and they said they would take care of it.They did a brake inspection and said the pads and rotors were in good condition.A week later the oil light came on, so I check the oil and had to add 2quarts of oil. I took the car back and told them that the car was burning more oil than usual.They said all it needed was to reset the oil light It's been over a month now and I am still having the same problems.Beware of buying a used car from them.They are saying they have done all they could do to repair it,and they really don't work on VW .They are suggesting I take it to a VE repair shop. I called earlier this month to have my car serviced. I wasn't able to keep my appointment. So I call today to reschedule the appointment after explaining this situation to Donna she transfers me to Dave and I explain everything all over again. Dave was cool at first then stated to me if he makes an appointment for me and I don't sit there they may or may not look at my vehicle. (Monday morning appointment 9am) like I don't work a job. So I State I can't sit there for you guys to service the vehicle and why would you not look it when I have an appointment. I requested a manger he give me back to Donna. Now I'm pissed. She gets on the phone with a bad attitude and I furious so she says change your tone. I tell her to change her attitude she hangs up. I call back and speak to the rude receptionist picking up the phone. She transfers me and I receive someone's mailbox. I leave a voicemail and I call back. I get voicemails 2 more times. I finally call and speak to someone else. He was helping and everything was fine till I stated there policy is dumb why would I bring a vehicle for an appointment and you not service it. He stated that he has a special needs son and I've offended him. Click phone hangs up. I'm livid at this point I call back and speak to the manager. He says you just have to know people make fun of special need kids and he's sensitive about it. I said sir as a customer how would I know he has a special need son. If he's that sensitive about words people use he shouldn't be answering the phone. The level of customer service is terrible and to tell a customer if they make an appointment an can't sit there. There car may or may not be looked at is ridiculous. Don't make excuses for the terrible customer service separate your home life from your work life. read more

I typically don't write reviews on companies but I must say Ricardo and Dino were both very helpful through out my car buying experience. Ricardo and Dino both stayed after hours to ensure that I received the ultimate customer service experience. They did not try to up sale me on unnecessary services. I have a 2017 Chevy Tahoe in beautiful condition... on the outside. I was so happy to have such a pretty vehicle, but I was deceived because it is (like my ex) ROTTEN inside. At less than 50,000 miles, I had to get new brakes, though they tried to tell me I didn't. It was a known issue on the internet and the dealer tried to hide it! Next the AC went out... another known issue, but I was just barely over the warranty and they didn't have to cover it. Cost me $1500. Now, at just over 60,000 miles, my transmission is shot. This too is a known issue. There's even a class action lawsuit on other years and models! They won't do anything to help and they want me to pay $5800 to get it fixed. I am a single mom. I support my elderly mother and my son, who has autism. This car has been like a handsome, cheating man. I have taken care of it. I get my tires rotated on time, my oil changed, and I've done every maintenance needed AT THE DEALERSHIP and this is the outcome. Chevy - the manufacturer and its dealers are liars and cheats. They have emails showing that they sold this car to Americans knowing this would happen. I will never buy another Chevy and I advise all of you... buyer beware! read more

Took my vehicle in for service in mid-September 2017 to double-check that there wasn't a problem with my brakes. I worked with service advisor Tim Yates. Tim was very professional and knowledgeable. He explained the diagnostic process and pricing in a clear, straight-forward way. Luckily, there was nothing wrong with the brakes. Tim was also able to give a comprehensive quote on some other work I want to have done soon. I will most likely return to John Thornton Chevrolet in the future.
