This place has been our go to for 2 years in a row- we love it here! The rooms are always clean, the staff friendly, and the location is perfect. The beachfront access is perfect.

Stumbled upon this hotel when planning my trip. Stayed here back in March. When calling to inquire about fees prior to reserving the front desk person that I spoke with over the phone wasn't able to answer my question about how much incidentals were. The room was spacious and pet-friendly. I do like that the hotel has pet-friendly rooms and areas. Breakfast was good. Parking can get crowded quickly. The pet area was convenient and we enjoyed the little boardwalk/gazebo area. The downside of the visit was the neighboring hotel room. They were VERY loud and inconsiderate of others between slamming doors, yelling, and being entirely too extra late at night.

    Epic sunrise!

I totally forgot to leave a review about my experience this time last year! I assume the best signal that someone has a good hotel experience is a return visit. Well I'm currently packing my bags for another visiting starting tomorrow. Super excited! The only hotel I could find that's truly "on the beach". Well maintained and clean rooms. I love the fact that I feel like I'm already lounging on the beach from my balcony. No complaints what so ever. After my upcoming trip I'll be sure to update with some pictures.

    Gorgeous sunrise from our patio!

Always a five star review for John Yancey...we have been coming back for many years with our pups. We love it here!

Wonderful stay and would definitely stay again. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The room itself seemed to be recently updated and was clean and spacious. The view was awesome. The beach access was beautiful and convenient. The location is perfect as it is centered between many tourist attractions in the outer banks (only 30 minutes from Roanoke island). Many great restaurants nearby that are walking distance. Amazing find.

Loved John Yancey. William and Courtney were great. Clean room, comfy bed and pillows. View was ocean and we loved it. Great weekend of knocking boots. Restaurants close by and dirty dicks crab house just down the road. Will def come back

The room is very pleasant a whole kitchen with 1 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 living room and a marvelous pool side view. You have a tv this year we watched the FIFA World Cup. You also get a free beach access you have to bring your own chair. Or you have to pay for the beach. The ocean had no jelly fish. And the waves were massive I got knocked down twice. I will really recommend this place for people in the east.

That said, the property is showing its age. The units still have outdated Dish TV service, and the curtains are faded and dated. Most of the furniture is cloth and overdue for replacement. The area rugs are also a concern--they seem a little smelly and retain sand, which makes them feel less than clean. Maintenance and management have noticeably declined. It's frustratingly hard to get in touch with someone when you need assistance. In short, you're paying for the location and ocean access, but the interiors and upkeep need serious attention. With some investment in updates and better guest service, it could return to being a top-tier beach property.

Plus there's a dining area and living room. Nice full balcony outback with a great view of the ocean. Wonderful breeze out the front but none of the windows worked to let the air in from the front. Only one of the elevators work. Some of the lights don't work. The living room TV has gone bad and often displays the programming as a negative image or mostly green in color. Side of the refrigerator has good amount of rust. The icemaker didn't work. The showers had decent water pressure and they have nice soap products. The food at the restaurant was good. The crabcake was good portion and tasty and the vegetable medley had excellent flavor. I was overcharged when I arrived for what my confirmation said. Hopefully that has been straightened out with my bill when I check out. There was an issue with the elevator the one morning as the employee said it wasn't working. This other lady who looked like a manager, was asking other guests about the elevator. When I told her that is your employee with the supply cart and he's been standing at the elevator and it's not working. She's responded to me saying "I don't know him. I don't know what's going on. I don't know about another elevator. I'm new here. This is my first day." Really? You start your first day on Easter Sunday and you had no training? There is another elevator, but apparently that's been out of order for many months. Thankfully, the employee with the supply cart was able to get the elevator back working quickly Lots of available parking in the open lot We consider staying again, but likely will try another place

Of course the ice machine is out of order. I was awakened to construction men right outside my balcony repairing the patio of the restaurant. There are signs directing you to the elevator and then you get there it says staff only. The best part was the bistro, but even then the construction men were right on the other side of the wall from my table tearing apart the outside wall. I paid nearly double for a room "on a higher level" and got the second floor out of five. Just another typical tourist trap.

The oceanfront location and easy beach access are fantastic, and the outdoor pool area is amazing with plenty of comfortable seating. She went above and beyond to make my son and me feel welcomed and cared for, and her genuine warmth made our experience so much more special. Kira is truly an asset to Shutters! Samantha at the front desk was also incredibly kind and helpful. We were so impressed by the beautiful property and, most of all, the people who made us feel so welcome. We had a ground floor room with two queen beds. There was a "back" door leading to a small sitting area looking at the dunes. We could hear the water from there. We did go up the stairs to see the water view, but it was way too cold to sit outside. There is also an indoor pool and jacuzzi. We didn't use it but it was good to know it was there. My only complaint was the shower. It was very difficult to route the water from the faucet up to the showerhead and the water was only lukewarm. If we had stayed longer, we would have asked for a different room because of that. We could tell the hotel has been updated within the last few years. It wasn't faded decor, but had a clean, classy vibe. Not a high-end resort hotel, but certainly worth the price and it's conveniently located.

Great location too! A couple things worth mentioning though. Our room was very damp. And not just a little humid (we lived in FL for 15 years so we understand humidity), but like our clothes felt wet when we put them on and paper gift bags were soft. We actually turned off the air and opened the slider to air the room out a couple times. If I had to take a stab in the dark, there's likely a serious mold issue behind the walls. There was mold growing on the AC unit. Another thing about the area in general (not just the hotel)...flies. Be prepared to have them tag along with you EVERYWHERE. They were in every restaurant we went to, by the pool, at the beach, in the gym, in every store. It was the most bizarre thing. Just everywhere. Also, I didn't realize how dog friendly this hotel was. We have two dogs and love them, but our room clearly had a dog in it previously with signs of hair on the AC unit and in the carpet. I wish we'd have brought our own pillows as the ones in our room were down pillows and even with 2 of them, they still fall flat. Overall, the location, price, service, and amenities were totally fine but those things like the room being super damp, the flies, and pet hair were just little nuisances that I think people should be aware of.

It was beautiful and very relaxing. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were warm, which we really enjoyed. The only downside was that there were hardly any towels available at the outdoor pool. We booked the last available room for the day and were pleasantly surprised with complimentary breakfast vouchers. Unfortunately, after using the vouchers, I checked my account the next day and noticed I had still been charged for breakfast, which was disappointing. The room itself was comfortable. The pillows were soft, the blankets were warm, and we slept well. However, there was one large bug flying around the room, and I have no idea where it came from, which was definitely unpleasant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay because of the pools, beach view, and comfortable room, but a few issues--especially the breakfast charge and the bug in the room--kept it from being a perfect experience.

There are absolutely things about this TownPlace Suites that I would like to see changed or that I…read moredidn't like, however I'm still giving 5 stars because of the location and the setup they have here and because I personally would go back without a second thought. First, some of the issues I have: The room layout puts one bed very close to the air conditioner and because they have the old-fashioned hotel style AC units, that leaves at least one person getting directly blasted with cold air all night. Using pool towel clips to put a towel over one side of the vent did help but reduced the efficacy of the AC and made the room warmer for everyone else. Breakfast is nice (and free) but the setup of it seems to be done as if this is a business hotel and not a beach front hotel. The cereal choices were all boring adult cereals, the bread for toast was VERY whole grain (as in it had pieces of grains in it), and the only milk they had was white milk (for example). Adding a small amount of more kid-friendly breakfast elements would go a long way. The outdoor pool is sheltered from the wind by the sand bank and gets really hot in the sun, a lightweight shade over the whole (or part of) the deck would probably be a welcomed addition by most people. As for what's great about this place: The location includes a beachfront pool + small snack shack with beach access which is directly across the road from the hotel itself. This gives the best of both worlds with beachfront access as well as having better parking and more room on the hotel property. On non-weekends the price is super affordable for a beachfront Marriott property. Not to mention the only Marriott property on the Outer Banks. It's very close to great food options, many walkable. Stuff for both adults and kids is easy to access. It's also not far to many interesting sightseeing or cultural things to see. All-in-all, I would love to see some minor changes but even with some flaws this is definitely a 5 star option.

You do have a easy access drive up area to dispose of your trash. Overall nice accommodations. Not a gated community and as I was loading up to leave , a older van started up next to me in the parking spot. It was loud( no muffler ) and the fumes were pointing right at me from the exhaust pipe. As I was coughing, I went up to the window to ask if they could turn off the engine till I was finished. Too my surprise, I seen two guys smoking, not pot but crack. They were startled and I asked them to turn off the engine it was choking me out with the exhaust. They must have spent the night in the van because I did not see anyone get in it while I was loading up my SUV. They did turn off the van, it had a name of a Church from VA on the side. Then they turned it on again and too off. Good. Like I said it was not a gated community. Also a problem with communication: No Phone number for company , no answer for the number on Yelp and no voice mail. I found and cleaned black mold from the bathroom. The gas grill did not light, the HVAC filter was filthy, should have been changed a few months ago. No number to communicate with owners, unable to resolve any problems.
