I did like the oceanfront room. Since the ad stated the room was 'recentlly renovated', i did expect it to be new. Our room was probably redone in the 90s. (?) Also, for the price , i expected ice to be included. Not enough to fill up a cooler, but at least 1 bucket per day would be nice... Speaking of price, w/ taxes, my room averaged $314/night. Also, don't stay out too late - parking is VERY limited. Don't invite any guests, unless they are taking a cab. As for the Outer Banks in general, the water was FREEZING - in August! (the hottest month of the year...) We will be staying further South in the future .

    Once again bed sheets stains.

Way to expensive. Don't book online you will not get ur money back. Pics online about this place are deceiving. We wanted a room on the beach and taught that's what we booked not so.

Reviews here are accurate. We made a last minute decision for a short get away (4 days). We wanted to sit on the beach and do a bit of exploring. We chose here due to the reviews, beach/ocean access and the price. We were not disappointed! The location is perfect. Literally walk out the doors/down the hall and you are on the beach. Good restaurant choices near by (Owens, Sam and Ommies, FreshFit Cafe and convenient to Roanoke Island). Easy for walking and biking. Small, simple and clean accommodations. Bed was comfortable, newer TV, small fridge and microwave and coffee maker. Peking is tight as noted in other reviews but never had a problem locating a spot. It was hassle free and perfect for what we were looking for. It's pet friendly however we didn't hear them nor hear neighbors. We've done higher priced hotels and homes for OBX for years with family. This was great for the simple and cost effective trip we wanted for just the two of us. We recommend and will be back!

If you're looking for an affordable, pet-friendly room on the beach, this is your place. Yes, it's all pretty dated (i.e. Wood paneling and window unit air conditioners) but for the price, it's a good value. We walked right out of our sliding glass door to the beach and even had an active turtle nest nearby that we checked on which was really cool. Right by Jeanette's Pier and many other conveniences. We enjoyed the little pool for quick dips after days on the beach. My only complaint would be that the fridge is pretty small if you're bringing food to stay for a few days, so we just kept much of ours on ice in the cooler. (Also, if you don't have dogs, I'd find another place, as you might not be so tolerant of all the dogs barking of yours isn't one of them.)

This is a comparatively inexpensive place to stay in nags head. Rooms are clean, staff is friendly, steps to the beach, and pet friendly.

The staff in the office once you arrive are so patient and welcoming, so checking in was so easy !!! If you have any issues in your suite or questions about locks, they will gladly come over and assist you. The excellent cleanliness of all the suite and the attention to detail to making your stay comfortable is outstanding !!! The rooms are spacious, very clean, full kitchen, large bathroom, very very comfortable bed, living room, dinning room, a nice balcony and chairs for you to enjoy view of the water, sunset and sunrise, easy access to boardwalk and gazebo on small pier. Also with access to a large swimming pool and hot tub for relaxation... Another plus is it's located between Manteo and Kitty Hawk, so you have plenty of options of places to go for drinks, a good meal, sight seeing, or for a good time in the water. If you are planning to come out here do keep them in mind for a great and comforting stay. Do inquire about specials for special events and specials rooms. My husband and I had a wonderful experience just two years ago this month at First Colony Inn,…read morewhich prompted us to book another visit this past Saturday 3/21 through this morning, Tuesday 3/24. What an incredible disappointment it was. The comparison was stark. The entire property is in need of attention. The porch swing we enjoyed outside our room (#11) two years ago was sitting on the deck this year (picture attached). The afternoon social advertised for Saturday afternoon did not happen. The boardwalk to the road was unusable and while cordoned off for safety didn't have any repairs during our stay. The beach walkway is a joke, and dangerous. The hot, made to order breakfast we'd enjoyed in 2024 was an embarrassment. Sunday morning's breakfast consisted of two small round store-bought waffles and a flaccid, microwaved piece of something unlike bacon. We chose to skip breakfast on Monday and Tuesday mornings and pay to eat elsewhere. In general, the inn appears to be falling to ruin. The bathroom floor was sticky and clearly unclean. The mini-fridge froze our sodas. We never saw any innkeeping staff on premises other than the nice young man who brought us our breakfast on Sunday morning. The quality of the food was not his fault; clearly, the days of having a cook make special breakfasts of the day are a thing of the past. What in the world has happened? First Colony Inn deserves far better than the lack of care and attention it is currently getting and so do its guests. Kirsten S.

Break fast was nice but hot food was just reheated premade items. As in picture. Not the quality we got last time. Pastries were held over each day for the next day. By day 3 ? The big thing was you couldn't get coffee until the office was unlocked at 8am. We are early risers and like coffee in am. The other thing was the toilet in our bathroom , room 3 was very low and hard for older people to use. The room was not as clean as I remember in the past. Would I stay again ? I don't know. There are absolutely things about this TownPlace Suites that I would like to see changed or that I…read moredidn't like, however I'm still giving 5 stars because of the location and the setup they have here and because I personally would go back without a second thought. First, some of the issues I have: The room layout puts one bed very close to the air conditioner and because they have the old-fashioned hotel style AC units, that leaves at least one person getting directly blasted with cold air all night. Using pool towel clips to put a towel over one side of the vent did help but reduced the efficacy of the AC and made the room warmer for everyone else. Breakfast is nice (and free) but the setup of it seems to be done as if this is a business hotel and not a beach front hotel. The cereal choices were all boring adult cereals, the bread for toast was VERY whole grain (as in it had pieces of grains in it), and the only milk they had was white milk (for example). Adding a small amount of more kid-friendly breakfast elements would go a long way. The outdoor pool is sheltered from the wind by the sand bank and gets really hot in the sun, a lightweight shade over the whole (or part of) the deck would probably be a welcomed addition by most people. As for what's great about this place: The location includes a beachfront pool + small snack shack with beach access which is directly across the road from the hotel itself. This gives the best of both worlds with beachfront access as well as having better parking and more room on the hotel property. On non-weekends the price is super affordable for a beachfront Marriott property. Not to mention the only Marriott property on the Outer Banks. It's very close to great food options, many walkable. Stuff for both adults and kids is easy to access. It's also not far to many interesting sightseeing or cultural things to see. All-in-all, I would love to see some minor changes but even with some flaws this is definitely a 5 star option.

The breakfast buffet was OK not well stocked missing a lot of items and there was litter on the property with cigarette butts and that was reported and never cleaned up there were bins of trash in the lobby that were there for hours on end and never should be in the public view. The air conditioning was broke in the main lobby, where the breakfast buffet was the room temperature thermostat was on the fritz and the unit rattle loud the cleaning service was absolutely horrible.
