You know what stops being hilarious after about a month? Being a nice Jewish girl from Ballard with ridiculous nails. But whatever, I kept the nail design train rolling for, like, four pretty awesome months. Apparently, Johnny Nails (or Johny's Nails, or Johnny's Nails, or Jonny Nails -- they spell it differently all over the store) is the only game in town if you want really kick-ass nail design. A word of caution to the ladies who aren't willing to go all out and get the two-inch Super Curl nails: All your designs will start to look the same after awhile, because everything is kind of engineered for those insanely long nails. You know, the kind where you wonder how the girl who owns them manages to get anything at all done, ever. Anyway, the quality of their acrylics is...well, it's not great. I'm a waitress, so I need a nail that can basically stand up to a bandsaw, and I had a lot of problems with nails snapping off, and since I live in Ballard, the schlep all the way down to Rainier was something I ultimately wasn't willing to do. When Johnny/Johny does your nails himself, they tend to turn out a lot better in both design and nail thickness. Waxing services are modestly priced, generally pretty well-done, and ruthlessly efficient. They don't accept appointments, and you would have to be out of your mind to go on a Friday or Saturday. read more

I've gone to this place quite a few times. I usually just get acrylics with shellac polish on top, to last longer. Amy is usually always there and it seems like she's the only one that does acrylic. I was a bit skeptic on going because of the reviews on here. But she does a full set for only $25 and an additional $10 or so for shellac polish on top. I've seen other places want to charge an additional $15-20 just for shellac. I went a couple of days ago recently, and was only charged $31 to get acrylics on my real nail (overlay) and shellac on top. I'll admit that the space doesn't look the best. It's in a "ghetto" area, but she does a great job with my nails, so I don't mind all that much. She doesn't rush and she takes her time, always asking if I'm satisfied with what I got. Like most Vietnamese nail places, the workers are always talking in their native tongue. So that's another thing. But Amy speaks English with a teeny accent; still understandable. I have yet to get a regular mani and pedi, so I'm not too sure on how that service is. BUT, it's a good place for acryclics! If you're going on the weekends, I suggest calling and making sure they're free. There's usually quite a few people that drop in during those times. read more

I've gone here since before i left Seattle, i came back and it's almost as if they're service has gone down and they're prices increased by way too much for such terrible work. This isn't the first time it's happened so this is why a review is now being written. I went in for a fix and color change and she completely did what she wanted gave me a fill that was unnecessary and reshaped every single nail so one hand is no longer the same as the other hand. If this is how you operate your business to keep people coming back, you're doing it wrong. When i told her that instead i wanted a simple clear coat instead of a gel color again she got an attitude... if you did the job i asked for at first then i wouldn't have had to go clear, on top of that i was there on a Tuesday, it's now Thursday and i have 4 broken nails because she thinned them out so much they barely hold against a tap on the counter. Absolutely terrible service, they use old polish and the place smells awful! I have been coming to this place for years loyally and always leave a healthy tip, my gel top manicure has never lasted one day without at least a nail breaking or the polish coming off immediately leading me to believe they use old polish or do a bad job on purpose. I finally tried a spot in river north area when I was in Chicago, not only was it about $20 cheaper has my gel top manicure lasted an entire week so far without a single nail breaking or the polish coming off immediately with no signs of wear at all. Not only that the nail technicians were nice and didn't talk shit in they're own language and giggle the whole time. At Johnny's nails they will cut the side of your toenails every time(unless you watch them and tell them not to, they'll pretend not to understand.)causing them to become ingrown which is extremely painful in heels. I will never come to Johnny's again, as well as let others know word of mouth how terrible the customer service and job they do is. I'm done with customer loyalty out of pity. If I could give them zero stars I would. My friend and I needed our nails done and we made the mistake of picking the closest nail place and not reading the reviews first. Let's start off by saying my nail tech was very unprofessional. She repeatedly smacked my hands, snatched them, threw them and was very rough with me. My friend had about a 15 minute start before me which means I got my nails done 15 minutes into my friend getting hers done. My nail tech was careless , my nails are crooked , the paint job was sloppy and not to mention she finished my nails BEFORE my friends , that's how fast she was going. My friend also showed the lady a picture of what she wanted and let me say it wasn't even close to it, she also kept asking her for longer nails and the lady refused to make them longer. it's also been a week since I've gotten my nails done and for some reason they're turning brown???? I got a full set with dipping powder yesterday and overall it was a great experience! I came in asking if they did sns dip powder (waiting to pick up my bf from his job) and they did. The nail tech (I didnt get her name but she was an older lady) was super sweet and we had some good conversations. I think it was one of her first times doing dip powder but other then that she shaped my nails well. They didnt have a ton of color selections in dipping powders and the place seemed a little bit old but nonetheless they were kind to me. It ended up taking longer than expected so my bf ended up showing up at the nail salon to wait for me. He's a big and tall lightskin black man so when he walked into the nail salon they all looked at him confused until I told them that he's my bf and was just waiting for me. They kinda made a face but other then that everything was fine. Literally the worst nail place to ever spend your money. They are rough, tear up your skin, are too comfortable with fucking up your nails, and so much more. I've gotten my nails done at this place at least 3 times. The first time cause people recommended me, and it was decent l, but definitely hurt. Putting on nails shouldn't hurt. Then a couple months later, I decided to come here for my graduation. I remembered it wasn't bad, and pretty cheap so why not. I was goddamn wrong. I chose a color, and the lady literally grabbed my fingers to the point they felt like they were ripping off. When she told me to put my fingers towards the fan, they burned so much I had no clue what to do. I felt as if I was the hassle and they didn't want me there, but I didn't think much of it, kept it pushing, paid (and tipped but you're supposed to tip ) them. As soon as I got outside, I knew my nails were ugly as shit. For some reason, the pink I had started to stain a darker color, and my thumb even had a black grey-ish line. So the next day (the day of grad) I come back and decided to get a color change. The black line was so off putting and they looked old and a lot less shiny than before . Yet literally only a day passed. So I decide to get white, that way I can get something simple and nice. Literally my worst experience yet. I get in there and the mood is already off putting. The lady who does my nails literally messed up so many times and instead of fixing it she goes over the mistake with nail polish MIXING THE MF OLD COAT (that wasn't dry yet) WITH THE NEW ONE, MAKING IT AN OFF WHITE YELLOW COLOR AND I HATE IT SO MUCH. I only went there once. This place is SUPER CROWED! I just had my gel manicure done in there. I think because they are busy, Amy was expected that everyone who came in and looked the color they had, need to remember their color. Their service is ok. The reason why it's okay service because my nails are real, when Amy use the drill to remove the gel polish, I can feel the heat and a little pain when she is removing it. Probably because most of the people who goes there does Acrylic nail instead of just painting their nail. And The problem is they don't know when they can take the next appointment if you are doing walk-in. So, if you want to go there, MAKE SURE YOU BOOK APPOINTMENT OR YOU WILL BE PISSED WHEN SOMONE/group of people came in and cut your line. Suggestion: you guys should ask each customer to see what they would like to do, it's manicure or pedicure, with or without design. That way doesn't matter if it's walk-in or Call in customer, you are able to give a reasonable time frame for them instead of making them all waiting inside the store so long for their turn. read more

The original owner obviously sold the shop to an unqualified friend or relative.. 1st. They were RUDE. No one greeted me. There was no one in the shop. Except two workers, When I showed up. I asked for a freestyle hand design, She does ALL of my nails the same design... That she got off of a set of Pre-Made nails. She had the nastiest attitude ever while doing my nails. The older lady doing my feet, Was okay. Not inviting/friendly. But not nearly as out right rude, As this younger woman. I asked her about their eyelash extensions.. She say's. "They're expensive". Uh.. Ma'am. I asked how much? Who is she to tell me, What's too expensive for my wallet? (One can only assume, It was because of the color of my skin & age I appear to be, That she drew the conclusion.. It was TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME) SO I go on to ask if I needed an appointment to have them done(all the while, I'm trying to get a feel for, & assess the womans behavior, I would love to believe. But it was like pulling teeth, to get this lady to interact with me) , Being that $90 is the CHEAPEST I have ever been quoted/Payed. She THEN tells me , They're short handed, So she doesn't do the lashes at this time. Now, again since I've been sitting here. Only one customer has entered . for a color change. That took all of 5mins. No one was beating your door down , For you service, Hun! Lol so customers BE AWARE! I WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DOLLAR WITH THEM. SPEAKING OF WHICH, Almost forgot to add. AFTER being mistreated for almost an hr & an half. I STILL TIPPED THE WOMAN $20! She then perks up, When she see's what I'm carrying in my purse & her attitude shifts. Oh NO hunny. Wish I looked at Yelp before going here. My friend and I popped in today for impromptu pedis. This place was one of the worst nail places I've ever been to. I'm pretty sure they randomly called a woman from outside to come in and do my friend's pedi as the "techs" were all busy when we came in. Seriously - the woman didn't seem like she had any idea what she was doing. The woman who was doing my pedi at least seemed like a regular tech, but she was distracted and totally unaware of what my experience was. First giveaway was when she started using nail polish remover on my completely unpainted toenails. They also used old heel scrubbers - euw! Will NEVER go here again. I just got a really terrible pedi at this place. The woman who did my pedi used the callous remover on the tips of my toes - twice! She seemed confused about what order to go in and did a couple things to only one foot. She filed my toe nails but didn't smooth out the edge, so it was still bumpy and wasn't completely smooth on the edge - the polish was bumpy and looked bad. The file was too course and my toe hurts now. I'm not very sensitive - never had this problem before...she just rubbed the skin off with the file. I got my nails done by the youngest lady there, I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she matched the picture pretty well (just a simple coffin shape set). She asked me if I was fine with the length and even after I said yes, I thought about it and wanted her to clip it a bit shorter and she did not seem to have any problem at all which is nice. My overall experience was great considering my nails since I have not tried getting anything else done since I saw the reviews about lash extensions or waxing. I do recommend if it was to get your nails done, looked very clean and polished. read more

I have been satisfied everytime I go here. They even do good eyebrows. I usually get pedicure, manicure, and at times acrilic.

First time coming here, Got a full set, it's was cute but when she was applying the acrylic it started to burn? I never experienced this before and never felt a burn on my nails like this before it almost made my hand shake bc it was hurting so bad, so when I told the lady she sprayed alcohol on it and continued in my nails after she sprayed them it was a warm and tight sensation on my nails ....kinda weird. My nails ended up coming out nice looking but later on I noticed they were not coming off , and I usually break a nail or two before I get a fill. So When it came to me trying to take them off so I could be ready for my next set...THEY WERE NOT BUDGING I soaked them in acetone for almost a hour and the acrylic just got sticky but didn't want to come off. Sticky acrylic is a sign that they used dental acrylic on your nails, it was VERY VERY sticky. This is probably why my nails were burning while getting them done......Came along with a bad smell once I was scraping at then aswell. Never will I ever come here again so so so so painful put on and take off process. I've never experienced anything like this at any other salon. Save your coins and go to a different spot bc this ain't it. Period read more

awful. i was so confused. the last time i went there it was "okay". but this time i almost called the health department! first of all, i went there to get my eye brows done and they were super pushy about giving me a pedi... just give it up already. when it was my turn to get the waxing, the poor girl before me was barely of the bed before they ushered me in the room. i stood there waiting for them to change the towels and equipment and they told me to lay down anyway. gross. i said "no" and was about to leave when they hurried around and cleaned up a little. they said they would give me a "discount" if i stayed. i'm such a sucker. i stayed and they did my lip for free. i should have left. the woman who waxed me dribbled wax all over my eye lid! and kept pulling the wax strip the wrong way, again, and again and again... and the wax was way too hot. then she started cutting my eye brows with scissors! like a flat top on my eye brows! so i looked like an angry bee! when she did my lip it was all of the same problems. i don't know what she put on my skin or what happened but the next day i had little blisters all over the area she waxed, and within a couple days became this gross infection! OMG! i went to the doctor and he gave me some antibiotic ointment to put on it for a week and it eventually cleared up. but seriously... don't go there even if you are in a pinch. read more

I originally went in with two friends for an eyebrow wax this past Thursday. The wax job itself was fine except that I noticed that the lady would dip the stick in the wax, apply the wax to face, then stick the same side of the stick in the wax to apply it to another area of the face. She did this with my and my two friends shich I found slightly unsanitary. After, she used scissors to trim my brows without asking. Hate the look of doing that, I would have said no if she asked, One of my friends got eyelash extensions as well and they looked nice but burned her eyes because the lady used hair weave glue. They looked really lovely though so I got them done as well which I completely regret. She applied the glue quickly and as she was applying the lashes I asked her to make them look like my friends lashes that she had just done. She said no, that it would look ugly on me, and that she would do it how it looked good on my eye. Yeah I was not pleased to hear that. I tried to explain that I wouldn't pay for the service if she didn't do it the way I asked. She insisted on doing it the way she wanted so I told her that if I didn't like it I wouldn't be able to pay her. They turned out okay but I didn't like them as much as my friends. She put too many lashes on the inner corner of my eye and not enough on the outer corner which looked stupid since the outer corner of my eye turns down slightly, so they looked even more droopy than normal. The hair glue they used burn my eyes as well and made them water which I assume didn't help the lashes stick as well as they should. It's now Sunday and a bunch of the lashes have either fallen out or bothered my eyes so much that I had to remove myself (ouch). I suspect that my eyelashes will be damaged, hopefully not permenantly. Moral of story: get 50$ eyelash extensions at your own risk, know that they won't look or be as good as the expensive extensions. After these all fall out I will definitely be going to lashey baby in Ballard, or anywhere else for that matter. read more

Recently when I went there and there was another lady not Johnny's wife and she tried to charge me 19 dollars for a fill! WTF!!! Not to mention my nails where breaking off left and right. RASCIST! I brought my little sisters here to get their nails done. I dropped them off, told them I'd be back in a hour to get them and pay for their full sets. I needed to run some errands and I couldn't sit in a nail salon and finish my to do list. My little sisters are polite and respectful (yeah, I know what you're thinking but they understand what it means to be in a position of service and they don't take that for granted) so I didn't see the harm in dropping them off as I'd only need an hour. When I came to get them, I turned up the hill to park my car of a very narrow street and a car pulls in FAST behind me blocking me in. I didnt think anything of it, just turned my hazards on and hopped out my car to go pay and get my little sisters. The lady in the driver's seat got out the car and was right on my heels to the front door of the nail salon where another lady was blocking the entrance. My little sisters were standing in the middle of the room looking uncomfortable and it dawned on me, they thought that we were going to run out because we're black. They made up some excuse that the nail technician needed to leave and we ''needed to pay her right away''. This was my first encounter with this nail salon and I will NEVER go back. OH! To make matters worse, the full MATTE sets that my little sisters got, turned splotchy white. BLACK PEOPLE KEEP YOUR MONEY. THERE ARE WAY BETTER NAIL SALONS THAT WILL TREAT YOU BETTER!
