We're long time fans of Johnny's, but I don't think we'll be back. Waitress was disinterested, abrupt, and MIA most of the time. We ordered the chop salad with grilled chicken- was ruined with way too much dressing and the grilled chicken was bland. The Sheppards pie was flavorless, and the filet was old and flavorless. All in all the service was poor, the food quality was surprisingly bad. So disappointed because this was our favorite place. read more

We've been coming here for many years, but it's really gone downhill since Nick left. We ordered the prime rib to share, and while the portion was more than enough for two, the meat was so tough we could barely cut it. We even switched knives thinking one might be dull, but it made no difference. The flavor was just okay, and it required a surprising amount of chewing. The only tender part was a small bit of fat at the tip that actually melted in our mouths. I'd strongly recommend sourcing the meat from wherever Nick used to get it--because if this continues, I'm afraid they're going to lose longtime customers. read more

Stopped in for dinner while doing some Autumn antiquing in the area and were pleasantly surprised based on the amount of negative reviews. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, the ambiance was comfortable, our cocktails were superb, fresh baked dinner rolls, savory clam chowder, my petite filet was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the creamed spinach was comparable to my grandmothers. My family and I came to this steakhouse for a birthday celebration. Our waitress was a short, chubby, brunette woman-didn't catch her name; wish I did so I can put her name on this review. The menu had said that the prime rib was available only on specific days, we didn't know that going in. My FIL asked the waitress that while the prime rib was only served on those days, can we make a birthday exception that night. Her response: "you read that correctly. If she had said it nicer, probably along the words of, "I'm so sorry but we can't make an exception. Those are really the only days we can provide the prime rib." Had she responded that way, we would've understood. But she decided to respond in a bitchy way, so that was a great start to our dinner. My husband had ordered a steak, medium. Food came out, his steak was severely overdone. Asked the waitress to send it back. Second time around, his steak was rare off the bat, the more he sliced into the steak, it was still moo-ing. Once again, sent it back. Third time around, it didn't even look like they threw it back on the grill because it was STILL rare. Her response was, "I'm sorry, we're understaffed, the chefs aren't on top of their game tonight." First off, you guys are supposedly a steakhouse. You specialize in steaks. Second, you guys probably shouldn't be open serving customers if the "chefs aren't on top of their game." So after 3 TIMES of messing up his steak, my husband ordered the salmon which was surprisingly cooked this time. The bill comes and we were charged for our husband's salmon meal. We felt that we shouldn't be charged for a meal that the restaurant had messed up 3x. My MIL said something about it to the waitress and she went to go get the manager. This manager's name was Trish, blond haired woman, who's surprisingly also a waitress at this establishment. She didn't introduce herself---I found out her name because I called the restaurant after leaving. She approached us already standoffish. My MIL told her the situation. Trish's response was, "Well, we offered you guys an alternative, he ordered the salmon and he didn't send it back. Sorry, the best I can do is offer you a dessert. Idk what else to tell you." Now if Trish had responded by saying, "I"m sorry you guys didn't have a great experience here tonight, I'm very sorry that you guys had to send the steak back 3x. I can only offer you guys a free dessert, but unfortunately, I can't comp you his meal." Of course, we said that we wouldn't come back again, and all she said was, "that's unfortunate." There's no feeling of empathy or sympathy in both of these women. It seemed like they had zero training in this industry and it DEFINITELY shows. IT'S ALWAYS IN HOW YOU SAY THINGS. Had the waitress and the manager Trish been a little bit more sympathetic in the situation, the night would've gone much better. Because I can 100% guarantee that if someone had treated any one of their family members the way that they had my family members that night, they wouldn't accept it either. But you know what, what goes around always comes around! Johnny's is a little over an hour of a drive for us and I can say it's Definitely worth it. We met some friends for dinner and had a delightful time. I love that the martinis are served in a whole shaker. The drinks were delicious. We started off with Buffalo shrimp. It was nice and crispy and tossed to perfection. Here we go with another French onion soup review.... It was AMAZING. I give it 5 stars for sure. Honestly it tastes like more . My husband ordered the Mahi. Coming from Hawaii and really enjoying fresh mahi he really did enjoy it. I ordered the filet medium rare and it was perfect. My only issue was that I didn't save room for desert because they have a chocolate tiramisu and I really wanted that but I ate everything. Even the pre dinner rolls were good. Will definitely make the drive again. It was nice to get out of Mechanicsburg and try something new and I'm glad I did. read more

It had to happen sooner or later. Still probably my favorite restaurant in the area, but my last dining experience here a week or so ago was pretty disappointing. For as pricey an option as this is ($100+ for our two meals), the food was not up to par. I got my usual NY Strip ($39), with garlic mashed potatoes, and a Caesar Salad. I also ordered a crock of Onion Soup ($7). The salad was good, but the rest less so. My steak was a bit underdone (ordered medium). I actually prefer somewhere between medium and medium-rare, but this was too rare to cut easily with their knives, and you wound up tearing it back and forth. My steak also had a huge strip of gristle on the side. This is normal for a NYS, but this piece was excessive. The garlic mashed potatoes were also very gummy for some reason. Tasted fine, just very sticky and gummy consistency. Soup was good, and the fresh-baked rolls with dinner were also very good. Best part of the meal, honestly. My fellow diner got the Surf and Turf with the broiled crab cake option ($59), a baked potato, and steamed green beans. Now, maybe this crab cake differs from their usual "Maryland" crab cake, but it was very dry in comparison, and considerably smaller than in the past. It was fine, but they used to be spectacular. Potato was fine, but the green beans were barely, and i mean BARELY cooked. I get that steamed fresh green beans are lightly cooked, and expect it, but these were, frankly, all but raw. Worse, a third of them still had the stems on them. I seldom go here -- it's kind of a treat for me -- but when I do, I go with high expectations. I expect my bill is going to be high, but I expect a corresponding high standard for the food. For the first time, they have failed to deliver on the latter. read more

My husband and I usually go to Johnny's for Valentines Day dinner. This year my husband made a reservation 3 weeks in advance for 4:30 on Valentine's Day. He called a few days before to ensure the reservation was still on the books. The lady he talked to assured him that the reservation was still on for 4:30. We were a little late getting there, about 4:38, only to be told that the hostess gave our table away and that our reservation was for 4:15. The way she treated us was atrocious. I've never been treated so poorly in my entire life. My husband and I will never go back there again. We usually drop some serious cash when we go so our waitress lost out on a significant tip. This past Saturday along with another couple decide to try Johnny's after a 2 year hiatus. In the past their steaks were always very good. I usually order prime rib which is always an indicator of the quality of beef being served. First of all there was no prime rib on the menu...strange. So I opted for the rib eye which is always a good choice. We'll the rib eye had about 20% grizzle which my friend had as well. The steak what was tough. Half way struggling through trying to eat this piece of garbage I called the waitress over to politely point out all of the waste on my plate. I asked her to call in the manager after which she returned and offered me another steak. I told her thanks. I have traveled nationally as a retired sales engineer and have eaten at a multitude of great restaurants both large and small and I will tell you that this was one of my worst dining experiences. I will never, ever return to this excuse for a steakhouse. I could have bough superiort a rib eye at Sam's or Costco compared to this garbage that they served at this establishments. If the owner thought that he could save a few dollars by downgrading his meat well he just scared away a lot of return customers and he never had the courage to come out and show his to apologize. The bar made me an excellent dry martini with generous portions (the shaker they gave me contained 2 martinis worth of pours). The meal sizes were large and there was more than enough to eat. Johnny's is casual dining. The atmosphere is not intimate or sophisticated. The decor and fixtures are a bit dated. The food was good, but it is certainly not fine dining. So utterly disappointed. My husband, our daughter, and I all ordered the ribeye, medium temp. Theirs came to the table correctly but mine arrived well done and chewy. The waitress was very kind and took it back for me but when the second steak arrived it was rare and loaded with unrendered fat. Also blood on the plate because the steak wasn't properly rested. By now my family was about finished with their meal. The waitress came to the table and I showed her the mess on my plate. She took it straight back, apologizing repeatedly...you could tell she was so embarrassed. The third (and final) steak came out...I kid you not...half medium rare and half medium. I ate the half that was medium (not much of it) and left the rest. I only ate what I did because my family were finished with their meals and I just wanted to leave. The check arrived and we were still charged a full $34 for this terrible steak. The manager never came to our table to address our situation. We paid and left and won't return. To our waitresses credit she was nice and, I believe, truly felt bad. But at the end of the day those cuts of steaks were poor and the way they were cooked was really quite amateurish. My husband and daughter also did not feel their steaks were all that great either. If you're a steakhouse and that's what you do...do it right. Honestly there is no excuse for what happened tonight. We come here a lot and love this place, and food, so this should be a 5 stars! Tonight hands down worst experience EVER! We we're excited to sit at the bar, started off well got our drinks and food order in... that's where it ended. Food came out wrong, not by our ordering but how it was put in but told our fault... but we took it and ate it. Minor mistake but dealt with. The 2 bartenders kept busy, texting friends coming, talking to other staff, doing their side work. But when you only end up with 4 patrons at the bar (their friends were the other 2) it should have been easy to ask if we needed anything. Their friends got their third round of drinks meanwhile we were never asked anything after the food came... Which we were up for more drinks and desert. After sitting for about 10 minutes done with the food We had to get attention to ask for a box and sat there for another 20 minutes with our food boxes and drinks glasses still sitting empty since middle of the meal. I had to again get their attention to ask somebody for a check. We get our check put a card in immediately even though we really wanted more drinks and dessert. Once again we sat there ignored while our original server had a drink with her friends continues to do her side work and the server who gave us our check laughed and joked with two other servers completely ignoring us. We finally asked for her to take the check relieved we could finally just get out of there!! I could not believe the service and how badly we were ignored! Just not a good way to spend a Saturday night when having 4 people (literally sitting in 4 chairs in a line) at the bar leaves 2 people ignored. Plenty of staff, this shouldn't happen. read more
