The food there is always good. They have their base menu and then their specials. We go about twice a year and this is the first time I put my review up. Everything is cooked perfectly and my two favorite things are the mussels and the smoked trout appetizers. (I forgot to get the picture of the smoked trout but trust me it's great) We have never been to the pub downstairs but I think we will try it because I hear the wings are amazing. The ambiance upstairs is an older crowd but it's fine. Service can be slow but we are not in a rush so if you don't have two hours to sped don't come here, but we don't mind because everything is great. Also their deserts are freshly made and taste it. Was in the area so decided to try this place out. Staff was great. Very friendly. The atmosphere could use some updating in the restaurant (did check out the pub after dinner. Cozy place! ) the food was only medicore ordered the scallops and shrimp with pasta. Wow. Can I say amazing. We had the ostrich (yea I said ostrich) and penne pasta with peas and blacken chicken. So unbelievably good. Food was not great. I ordered pork schnitzel and it was bland and very heavy. The gravy had a burned flavor and the "mashed potatoes" were a solid clump of greasy starch--not even edible. My son did enjoy the duck he ordered, but the risotto was a glutinous, starchy and flavorless block of starch. Husband ordered fried fish and he enjoyed it, and our friend ordered steak I think, which was okay, but like the rest of us, he did not eat anything but the main protein. The food is always good here. Try the truffle Parmesan fries or the Korean Beef tips. Tonight I had the special. It was a Mahi Mahi over rice and a shrimp cream sauce. It was amazing. You can choose from dining upstairs which is a little more upscale or down in the pub which can be mor lively depending on the night. The servers are always amazing here. And they are some of the hardest working staff I know, doing stairs for certain drinks and all of the food. No wonder they are all in amazing shape ‍ ! My mother, sister and I are on a road trip from NC to VT to fulfill my late father's wish that some of his ashes be interred in his home state of Vermont, where he was (as well as my sis and I) born and raised. We stopped in PA to rest before we travel on to New England tomorrow. After checking into a local hotel we began searching on Yelp for dinner possibilities. We chose another restaurant (The Brickyard) but when we made our way to it, alas it appeared Covid had, at least temporarily, closed it down. What to do? We parked and regrouped looking again to Yelp for good eats. We decided upon Porch and set the directions into our navigation. Well we had a long drive through the lovely countryside, beautiful farmhouses and cornfields galore, even some beautiful Amish folks along the way. However the road became suspiciously long and we wondered if we had somehow made a wrong turn or Siri failed us. Nope. We finally arrived at our destination. We walked in to the restaurant located within a large old home and after a short wait we were informed by the lovely Ruthie that there were two dining options: downstairs a more casual pub dining atmosphere or upstairs a more formal and intimate dining experience. We sensed right away the formal dining area was right up our alley. Chef George was trained in France we were told. Oooo THAT sounded promising! We were seated at a white table clothed table with a charming little votive lamp. The owner chefs mother's beautiful paintings grace the walls of the dining room. I chose a fried goat cheese salad to start, a double portion of crab cakes on a bed of farfalina, sautéed spinach on the side for my entree. My mother and sister started with a tomato bisque. For entrees my sister chose salmon with wild rice and sautéed spinach. My Mom chose a crab cake over a salad. We shared creme brûlée for dessert. THE ENTIRE MEAL WAS A DELIGHT. Thank you Lord Jesus that the first restaurant was closed! We so enjoyed everything. I usually do not eat salmon ever. Since it was such an an amazing quality I thought nows the time to try and see if it's just been a matter of poor quality fish and poor preparation when I've tried to eat it before. Oh my word, it was good! I couldn't believe it. Totally changed my thoughts about salmon as a potential entree choice in future if I can find the same standard of quality. Ruthie the amazing waitperson was a delight. We met chef George at the end of the meal and thanked him profusely. This place is a gem! Would not hesitate to venture back to Porch! read more

Although this place is a bit out of the way, my family and I are more than happy to take the trip out to Myerstown for special occasions. My understanding is there are two sections of this restaurant - a casual/pub area, and a more upscale dining area. Not that we're against the casual aspect of this place, but the dining room is fantastic. The menu is constantly changing, and it's truly a fine dining experience. While my family chowed down on pre-dinner salads with fried goat cheese ($8.00), I decided to pay the dollar extra and get the moules-frites. BEST DECISION EVER. The light champagne cream sauce was packed with buttery, garlicy goodness and paired marvelously with the mussels. This would have been fine on its own, but add some fries with that to sop up every last drop of sauce? Fuhgeddaboudit! The crab cakes here are also legit. I know some very picky people when it comes to good crab cakes (they only ever order them in Maryland). But they make an exception for The Porch. Apparently the head chef/owner hails from MD and served up some award winning crab cakes. He has now brought his recipe to PA, and it's been quite a hit with even the most hardcore crab connoisseurs. If you're in the area and never tried this place, or if you're just passing through, give this place a go. I wanted to try the porch restaurant for a long time. I finally got my chance yesterday. I did not know what to expect in the dining room on the second level. It was much more fancier than I expected. I got a chicken dish with wonderful mashed potatoes and asparagus. For dessert I got apple walnut With homemade ice cream. Made a reservation for 5:45pm (a day in advance) arrived at 5:40pm was told they didn't have a reservation for us. The employee stated their online reservations doesn't always work. She walked around the restaurant and came back and said unfortunately all tables are reserved, however, there were tables open and not marked with a reserved tag like all other tables. Despite having a confirmation number there was no effort made to accommodate us and were basically told we had to leave. Just got back from our first dinner at Porch in Myerstown. I would never have even known it was there if I didn't see it listed on Restaurant.com. From the outside, it looks mostly like a bar in a big, old Victorian house with a wrap-around porch. There's outdoor dining in the back and apparently a "fine dining" dining room upstairs. We ate in the downstairs area because we weren't dressed up. I had the mussels frites-- mussels and shoestring french fries in a cream, wine and shallot broth-- to start. A couple of my mussels were gritty but it didn't matter at all because the broth was excellent and went perfectly with the fries. My boyfriend had the wings with spicy mango sauce. The wings themselves were fresh, big and cooked perfectly without any dredge or batter. (You can tell if wings have been frozen if when you bite them, the bones are black.) The mango sauce was okay. It wasn't really spicy enough and didn't cling to the wings in the way that we'd hoped. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as we'd hoped. For our entrees, I had their Brick Chicken-- a frenched chicken breast and leg cooked under a brick to press it flat and create an uber-crunchy skin. It came with scalloped potatoes with Tillamook cheddar and a wine sauce and a small portion of sauteed spinach. It was absolutely excellent. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The skin on the chicken was amazing. The portion of chicken was perfect but I felt like there could have been a little more potatoes and spinach. My boyfriend had the single crab cake. It came on a bed of farfallini pasta with a small side of sauteed spinach. While the crab cake was probably one of the top three I've had in my life, the pasta bed seemed like an odd pairing and there wasn't very much of it. For dessert, he had the blondie with coffee gelato and I had the lemon chess pie. Both were rich and amazing. The service was okay. It seemed like there was one waitress, one manager (who mostly stayed upstairs and was kind of snippy when she did come down through the small pub dining room) and the bartender (who served as our waitress). The bartender and waitress were running up and down the stairs next to our table the whole time we were there. At one point, the chef ran plates down the stairs to the outside dining area. Apparently, the outdoor area was full. When I went back to their ladies room, there was a large table covered with the debris from the last group of diners who were there when we arrived. Dishes hadn't been cleared, nor glasses, nor were the chairs pushed in. It seemed kind of strange that there wasn't a busboy or that the manager didn't have someone clear the table. It seemed like they were unprepared for the diners who were there tonight and they weren't *that* busy. That said, Porch is very local to us, in an area with a dearth of restaurant options. We'll be back to check out the burgers on the pub menu. As some were carried past our table, I literally found myself drooling. Just realized that there was another yelp link to review this place. (From previous review) Had some food here with the bf the other night while we were in town. It was recommended by the innkeeper at the Cornwall Inn. We called the place a few time to find out what time they closed. They have a fine dining upstairs and a more casual dining downstairs. We unfortunately got there when they stopped serving regular food (we called twice- first guy told us they are open until 2 and the second guy told us until 12). Neither one mentioned that they stop serving dinner food and only serve bar food after a certain time. Had we known, we would've made it for the regular food. Still we got mozzarella sticks, truffle fries and a sticky bun ice cream. Each item $6 while pretty good not worth the price. The waitress who was also the bartender was very nice. I would come back just to try it again during normal food hours and will update if I do. read more

Came here for the first time based on yelp reviews. We ate in the tavern. All the food was very good. We had hot wings, burger with pork and fried goat cheese salad with crab cake. Crab cake was jumbo lump crab. Impressive for the price. Nice variety of beer on tap. We prefer dark beer and they had 3 to choose from, which is rare event for us. Friendly wait staff. It was rainy and cold but look forward to coming back and sitting on the Porch. There is a nicer dining area on the upper floor. The menu there also looked impressive. We went to the porch tonight. The food was fabulous. I had the crab cakes it was all crab. Very little filler covered in melted butter sauce over pasta. Oh my it was the best meal I've had in a long time also the portion was not skimpy it was just right no nice to be able to sit at a table and eat. Disclaimer...I am from San Francisco and have pretty high expectations when I dine out. With that said, I also understand that "when in Rome..." you have to readjust those expectations. At Porch Restaurant & Pub, I don't. It is definitely one of the best places to eat in the area! The menu has the standard fare (burgers, fish & chips, etc.), but also some unique items and seasonal specials. My last visit included Scotch eggs and oysters for an appetizer, followed by a delicious pork tenderloin with fresh peaches. Amy, our server, not only took great care of us, but also tended the bar and other diners in the downstairs "pub" area. She is professional, friendly, and gracious. The perfect host. Joe, the owner and chef, even came down to see how we were doing. A very nice touch. The atmosphere downstairs is a little funky with old-school, but awesome, band posters on the walls (I have not been upstairs where I hear it's a little more formal). The bar can only sit about 8 people, but there are small tables near by. Great music plays in the background. And they have a beer selection that can rival any bar in the US, plus decent wine (I am from SF after all). The best part is the wasabi peas they provide to snack on while you enjoy your drink! If you are looking for a cozy, casual, medium-priced restaurant to have a great meal, Porch Restaurant & Pub is the place to go! read more

Second time eating dinner there. First time I had Elk. It was delicious. This time I had the crab cakes and my wife had chicken. Again, great dinner. Best crab cakes I ever had and the wife said it was the best chicken she ever had. All the deserts are home made and delicious. This review would absolutely be a 5 star review if not for the appetizers. I had the coconut shrimp the first time and the crab soup and Korean beef this time. The Coconut shrimp were below par and I only got 4. The crab soup was average, and Korean beef was just ok and didn't blow me away. If they would update their menu with new appetizer's, appetizer's that are better quality and more appropriate, this place is a 5 star all day long. Maybe something along the line of shrimp cocktail, Bruschetta instead of smoked trout Bruschetta, scallops wrapped in bacon, calamari, fried oysters, etc. Either way, I will be back and I totally recommend. If I didn't have to give a star at all I would give a zero. The waitress was really nice but let me tell you.. the food on the other hand was not. I asked for crab cakes and paid for a $1 item off of the McDonald's menu. They gave me one little slab of crab cake and a 1/2 a serving of noodles. This was not what was expecting. I expect the meal to be more quality since I heard good things about it going in but was disappointed once I went there. My friends also did not like what they got either. Spend more money on the quality of the food you are giving people or else you are going to lose more valuable customers. Will not be going back anytime soon. read more

Wrong dinner. The correct dinner was incorrectly prepared. We were charged for it, and had to bring it to the servers attention. The incorrect meal was NOT TOUCHED and we were charged for it anyway until we complained. We leave to find out our vehicle was messed with while we were inside. Never going back. Ever. They have two options. Fine dining upstairs and casual dining downstairs (in the pub). I ate downstairs and it's my understanding the quality and selection is the same. The difference between the crab cake entrees from the two menus is upstairs is two cakes downstairs is one cake. Downstairs is the pub so the ambiance is reflective. Your at a table, there are patrons at the bar and two tv's on so it's a little loud but it's not overwhelming. It's what you should expect eating casually at a bar. First the beer list. Excellent by my standards. Four pages, American, English, German, Belgian etc. Some selections were Duchesse De Bourgoune, Chimay blue, Chimay Red, 6 different Trappists, monks cafe sour ale, founders breakfast and a plethora of IPA's which I don't like so didn't commit to memory. One was some very expensive Alaskan IPA's. It's a very wide selection. I was pleased. I ordered the crab cakes, which was served with a veggie of the day and a beurre blanc sauce served over farfaline pasta. The crab cakes were fantastic. The farfaline was a little scant and veggie if the day was peas. Overall the meal was expensive but equally delicious. I will be back on more than one occasion. If your in the myerstown area and want good food. Come here and eat. You get what you pay for. I wish this place and the (westy) west hamburg tavern would change places. I'm giving this five stars. I'm sure there are michelan star establishments out there that top this food by far but I have not eaten at them. Therefore based on beer, food, price and service. Bam! 5 STARS. read more

I'm a big fan of porch. I've been here on several occasions and have never been disappointed. They have the same menu all the time (that you can see on the site) and then some wonderful specials as additions. You can get a seat right away and it's a nice place inside. The servers are friendly and attentive. The chef worked at Le Bec Fin for a couple years and you can tell he's a pro. His mother and him make all the desserts there and they are wonderful too. Once a month they have a brunch that is by far the best brunch i ever went to. I have it marked on my calander so that I don't miss it! Porch is definitely worth the drive out to Myerstown. They have a pub downstairs to eat in as well. It's a more casual place and lighter fare as they call it. It's sort of weird and dark down there though. I prefer the main restaurant. read more

The bread was awful but they give you maple infused butter which is amazing! I wish i would have brought my own bread to actually enjoy that butter. Unfortunately my meal wasnt the greatest. I got The mussels and frites. Frites were great. Mussels seemed under cooled for me. My Caesar salad had so much garlic it kept stinging my mouth. You could smell the garlic on salad at the table and obviously on my breath X 10! Lol drinks were reasonably priced. I did not care for the fact that all dishes came with mashed potatoes and no other choice. However i did like the fact it came with fresh green beans but it was not listed on the menu with any of the meals. One of the best kitchen I ve been able to try around Lititz. The Menu is not exceptional, but you'll found the basics and feel the difference in the making. Definitely worth some visits! The Chef did apparently learn some cooking in France. The special are often quite surprising. Had some lamb (cooked to perfection) during the winter, with a red curry sauce (very fresh green beans and mashed potatoes : the best ones I tried sincewe are leaving in the USA) and this was just delightful. Recently went back with the kids, and tested the carb cakes with the fine butter sauce, and my wife had the wienerschnitzel veal that was also terrific. The desserts are also quite interesting : the creme brulee is very good. We just though that the basic one is better than the Eggnoll you can have during the holidays. 2 rooms, depending on your mood : classy upstairs or pub like downstairs. They had the atmosphere but this place has the best food--hence the 5 stars. Schnitzel is just like that in Germany. The best that I've had here is the US and I have always tried it when I find it. Hands down the best place to go in the Myerstown area if you like craft beer and quality food. There are 10 rotating taps and over 100 bottles of beer to choose from, which are organized into a beer list sorted by style and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, which makes it easy to find a beer you like. Porch offers patrons two choices: Fine dining upstairs, or casual pub dining downstairs. Upstairs is a great place to take a date or significant other for a nice dinner. They have award winning crab cakes and weekly fish and wild game specials. Downstairs has a more casual atmosphere and a great place to gather with friends. They have trivia and $1 tacos on Tuesday nights and they often have live music on weekends. Chef Joe is constantly changing the menu with daily soup and burger specials and seasonal offerings. Even if I'm not hungry I like to hear the specials just to see what Joe is up to in the kitchen. They have a pub menu and a fine dining menu and you can order from both downstairs. With their 2 different food menus and a gigantic beer list, the Porch truly has something for everyone. The only negative review on here is because they wouldn't take a coupon from a 3rd party vendor that was over 3 years old?!? Don't let the Phish phool you! The restaurant, food and beer selection were cool but the ownership was anything but. In a joint filled with jam band posters and an endless loop of Dead and Phish music one might think that the owner would honor a gift certificate that a customer paid for on a legit website....nope. The cold conversation with the cold manager upon presentation of said certificate went something like this..."we don't that participate in that anymore"...."but it says that this certificate never expires"..."um, sorry buh-bye" (the buh-bye is admittedly an embellishment). So don't let the hippie exterior fool you folks, for hiding behind it lurks a cold hearted capitalist who doesn't honor his commitments and, I suspect, hearts Nickleback and Coors Light. read more

After reading online reviews and the restaurants website, we were excited to try out a restaurant headed by an owner with such an impressive culinary pedigree. However, after having experienced the Arctic cave that is The Porch's lower pub level, I can say with certainty that if any of your French mentors or teachers were to eat the food we just ate, they would be shocked and disappointed. The meal started with warm beer from the rotating tap, a nitro ale we were excited to try. But it was really warm. My wife went to use the restroom and I decided to order for us. It being taco Tuesday, and the fact that tacos aren't on the regular menu, I thought we should give them a try- expecting something unique cooked by a world class chef. We also ordered the nachos, fish and chips, a goat cheese salad recommended by another Yelp reviewer, a crab cake also recommended by Yelp, and fries. The "first course" of nachos took 35 MINUTES!!! And were cold. The Ortega taco kit at the grocery store makes better taco meat than came in either the nachos or the tacos. When we asked how much longer the rest of the food would be, our waitress (who we could see on her cell phone around the corner the whole time) informed us that everything is made fresh and takes a little longer. The rest of the food was certainly hot, but not from scratch or fresh. Fries and fish were obviously from frozen and then deep fried. Which is fine, but then they shouldn't take 45minutes. Or charge $16! The tarter sauce was bland and obviously from a jar. No lemon for the fish or the crab cake. And we never got the salad, I can only guess the waitress forgot to put it in. The $12 crab cake is the perfect example of how to take a beautiful product and make it taste worse not better. It was beautiful giant pieces of crab meat, held together with filler that had a weird artificial lemon taste to it, covered in some sort of butter sauce that had no flavor. The whole dish was screaming for some sort of seasoning. We probably had to add a couple tablespoons of salt to all the food. The bathrooms were dark and dingy, the men's room had a giant hole in the wall. And the hand soap in both bathrooms was not hand soap, but some cleaner with a very strange and strong smell. It smelled terrible. Overall it was a terrible experience. The food we ate was prepared by people who have no passion or love of food. They were just throwing food out of that kitchen. The guy we read about online, the one who travelled all the way to France for an internship, must have had a passion for food at some point in his life. You don't cook in the kitchens he's been in without having some sort of talent and passion. If that guy ever cooks something again, I'd like to try what he comes up with. But what we ate tonight was not from a guy who is passionate about food. read more
