She was a legend and did her best and worked her a** off. So in a sense service was a little slow but understandable. The food was very good (though they were out of wings), and drinks were fresh and cold (though they were out of Captain Morgan rum). All in all nice out of the way place for the locals, the campers in the nearby campground, or two married people having an affair hooking up. read more

Beautiful historical setting. Great service. Loved the food. I'd highly recommend reservations, especially on the weekend. We managed to find room at the bar. Everything on the menu was sounding delicious. I opted for a seasonal choice and did not regret it at all ~ the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl was amazing. They were out of buns for my husband's beef and cheddar sandwich, but he got Texas toast instead and enjoyed it. We would absolutely come again when in the area. read more

The food is always good and priced reasonably. The service is good and the wait staff are always friendly. The atmosphere is almost like being in someone's kitchen with the bar area in another room. Not a large place. The only negative is that they charge 3% to use charge. read more

Reserved the second floor for a Christmas gathering. Waitress was great, kept all separate bills accurate, and the food was delicious. I was impressed that there was no charge for reserving the room. It's a local "dive" that has a lot of charm. Customers and employees are very friendly and appreciative of your business. We had an enjoyable meal at The Penguin Hotel & Bar. The atmosphere is simple but inviting. Jade, our waitress was very friendly and made us feel welcomed and at home. Thank you!! The food was not what we expected. We were pleasantly surprise. We had the Caribbean chicken wings and they were very spot on- great flavor and nice and crunchy. This is a good solid pub. My husband said his fish was overdone but otherwise decent food. When we arrived, we waited awhile until someone even acknowledged we were there. I could not tell which people were wait staff or actual diners since none of the staff wore tshirts or shirts that let you know they were the staff. Still a good place to eat. read more

Visited The Penguin Hotel in Stevens, PA for the first time as part of a surprise dinner with friends. Unfortunately, the experience was far from what we hoped for. Our party of six had reservations, yet we waited over an hour for our meals. When food finally arrived, only four of us were served--two of us waited another 15 minutes. And when those final dishes showed up... they were still wrong. I requested my steak medium well--it came out rare. My friend ordered a salmon salad and received it with onions, which he specifically asked to have left off. What made matters worse? The staff asked me how I wanted my steak three separate times. After the third round of confusion, I gave up entirely. At that point, it had been over 30 minutes since the others were already eating. The owner never came by. Servers were sent instead, and while they comped the meal I didn't eat, as well as my friend's and another guest's, that wasn't the real issue. My onion rings--meant to pair with my steak--were eaten on their own just to keep my blood sugar stable. I have a diabetic condition and was forced to eat in pieces to avoid further medical complications. It was stressful and not how a night out should feel. And if all that wasn't enough--after the fact, staff members came onto my personal page and harassed me over the situation. When I stood up for myself, they responded by blocking me. So instead of accountability, I got silence and censorship. I would never recommend this restaurant. Poor service, lack of professionalism, and no respect for guests with medical needs. One comped meal doesn't fix an entire evening ruined. read more

It's been a while since this happened and I'm still a little annoyed by it. My wife had an extremely stressful day at work and we were looking forward to a nice relaxing evening out. Unfortunately that didn't happen. I made 5pm reservations for my wife and myself. We arrived right on time and everything was great until we ordered dessert. After we ordered deserts (it was about 5:50pm) the waitress came back to our table and told us that the table we were sitting at was needed for a 6:00pm reservation. She offered to move us to a different table or we could take our desserts home. We opted to take our desserts with us. Our waitress was obviously annoyed with the person who took the reservations. She apologized several times and even comped the desserts. She really tried to save our evening. We recognize that this mess was not our waitress' fault. Unfortunately we were so blown away with the poor planning that it was just not possible. read more

Great local pub/restaurant. The staff are super friendly and the place a a quaint atomisphere. Visited with my family and all of our meals were very good. My son loved their garlic roasted chicken wings. Very crispy and savory. I had the fish and chips which was good. Wife had a grilled ceasar salad which was also good. My husband and I went to The Penguin for their prime rib special Wednesday night. Absolutely THE BEST meal I've had here or any place else in a very very long time. The prime rib was so tender... literally like it melted in your mouth! It came with a baked potato and I chose Brussels sprouts and my hubby chose green beans. These were fresh vegetables, not frozen, made tender and crisp and tasted amazing. Everything about this meal was perfect. The Penguin is our favorite place to go because all their meals are delicious... we've never been disappointed here. We love the ambiance and the staff is terrific! We can't wait to go back. The atmosphere is also rather tasteful, and it has a good selection of drinks, alcohol and soft. Visited once and will not be going back. I got a slice of moldy parmesan cheese on my side Caesar Salad, which was taken off the bill but no manager came over to acknowledge the issue. The medium wings were more mild and lacked flavor. Two of the other diners with me had fish and chips, one of which fish was about half the size of the other. There was a plethora of flies throughout the building. And they have a 4% surcharge for credit card payments that is not mentioned on their website or menu, and is only on a tiny sign on one dining area wall. read more

First visit was a bad experience. Started off waiting a bit for an open table, it was busy. That is just how it is when you go out to eat sometimes, so no biggie there. Ordered drinks and food, drinks came, as well as our wings, then it got bad from there. Our order got lost, so our dinners took about 1 1/2 hours to get it. Burgers then were undercooked. I do not like pink burger meat. Karaoke was starting and the lights flashing in the corner were hitting us right in the face. We were ready to go by then as we were tired of waiting so we ate what we could and left. I'd give it another shot because its not too far, but I was not impressed at all first visit. read more

Haven't been here in a few months. Menu has changed since my last visit and I was somewhat disappointed that some items that I once loved we no longer an option. Food was ok.....not great just ok. It was a cool night so they had the windows open in the bar area. It was kinda hot when we walked in but quickly learned they there was a good breeze blowing in the windows. They allow their bar customers to go out front on the porch and smoke and of course take their drink along. The smoke was blowing right in the windows, so they might as well just let them smoke inside. We had to request to move into the dining area which was very dark and stuffy. Not sure if I will be back due to the menu changes and my somewhat of a disappointing visit tonight. read more
