During one my many weekend projects I ended up tearing the back panel of my drivers seat. Having to come to Carson City 5 days a week for work it was just most convenient to find a good upholstery person in Carson. After visiting a couple locations and doing some research Johnny's was by far my best option. Johnny's is a small local family run shop. I came over on a Tuesday and was given a couple of different fixing options for my tear. First one being complete panel replacement the other being a simple hand stitching. I choose the hand sticking because I didn't find the tear to be bad enough for a full panel replacement and it was cheaper. Juan the owner of the shop was who I spoke with both times and was who did the hand stitching of my seat. He was polite and most importantly fair and efficient. Took him nearly 25 minutes and he had be back on my way. The seat obviously doesn't look factory but looks miles better than what I was expecting it to look like. Very happy with the work and will absolutely come back if I ever have any other upholstery needs. read more

We have lived in Carson City well over 40 years. Before buying new, check with Johnny. He has reupholstered our old barber chair, a Krause's sofa and loveseat set, a sectional and an ottoman over the decades. Every piece was done in leather and we still own each piece. If you have furniture that you really like, fits in your home well, but is looking a little shabby...see what he can do. We are always happy. We looked for 3 years trying to find a new leather sectional that fit our den. We needed a certain size, wanted heavy leather with fully reversible cushions. We searched Reno and CC. Johnny came out, looked at what we had and and gave us a quote (so good that we decided to have our large footstool done to match). His work is excellent. Brought a few hard to find items for my 62 Dodge truck to be reupholstered along with seats and a top for a Willy's military jeep and they did an outstanding job duplicating these rare items. So the wife has a 16 year-old Trailblazer that's only got 60,000 miles on it and is in great shape except for a few small "cosmetic" things. One of those issues was about a 6" tear in the side of her leather seat cushion that just screamed fix me every time you opened the door. It also had one on the front panel of the seat as well. I turned to Yelp and saw Johnny's has excellent reviews and is relatively close to us. Set up an appointment with Juan, brought the vehicle in one morning and both panels were replaced by lunchtime. Very good experience at Johnny's, I first had them re-upholster the two inner panels on my boat, they ordered the right material and did a great job, looked like factory work. They did such a nice job with the boat panels that I brought them 8 cushions from my sailboat to recover, again, they worked with me on the right color and did a very nice clean job re-upholstering the cushions, even had them increase the foam thickness in the forward berth, fit is great. Worked with both Johnny and Jay, very helpful and pleasant, prices were very decent for the quality of workmanship. Would highly recommend. read more

I was given a quote and set an appointment to drop off my sofa. Then the owner called me to review the quote and double the price. He didn't tell me that he was the owner he used a different name! I said that I would come in the next day and speak with the manager who gave me the quote and schedule. When I came in they agreed with the original quote and schedule. When I dropped off my sofa, they said that they had to put it outside. Then the owner admitted to being the owner and then said that he didn't have anyone to do my sofa so I need to take it and not come back. Shady, shady business! read more

Have had a number of upholstery jobs done here over the years including furniture and camper canvas. Had always had super friendly customer service and the work was always top notch and affordable. Several months ago we went into see about having our boat bimini cover re-made. The young man was very friendly and brought out sample fabric and we chose a fabric. He told us we would hear from the owner when he came back in the following week. We never heard back so my husband called today and the owner told him there was no record of our visit and we needed to bring it back in to get an estimate. When we arrived he acted ANGRY at us for even coming in to his business. He told us several times that the fabric from our current bimini is "not even water proof!". My husband explained that it is used as a shade device and that was the fabric from the original. He unfolded the bimini (it is 65 inches by 72 inches) and in a gruff tone told us - it will be $350 in that fabric. My gosh! I didn't pay that for the entire rocking chair I had done the last time I was in there for work. He acted angry throughout the entire interaction. I am very sad about this as we have had a long standing relationship - used to go to him at his old location out Hwy 50 but I do not think we will go back. read more

Met with Juan, who seems very nice and told him my problems with a backrest off my Victory cruiser, he recommended a few adjustments quoted me a nice price and rapid turn around time. I am rating this a 3 for courtesy and knowledge, will rate again after the work is done. Ok, final review.. overall 4 stars for a good job, however 2 stars for time.. what was quoted as a 2 day job turned out to be almost 2 weeks!! I know it was a small job maybe to cheap for them to do, but if you take a job and its a few bucks in your pocket just do it!!! when next winter comes along I may take my seat in for a recover..that will give them at least 3 months to do it!! read more

It's a little hard to find this place and it has a steep driveway that's easy to miss. It's wedged between an industrial neighborhood and a townhouse complex. So, if you're not familiar with the exact local area, don't just jot down the address on a piece of paper and think you'll find it. Look at a map or follow your GPS. You can tell from their parking lot that they do a lot of car, truck, and boat upholstery. If you have indoor furniture, don't be alarmed. They do furniture upholstery too. That's what I had them do for me and they did a very nice job. The owner (Johnny / Juan) helped me himself and was very accommodating, letting me look thru his rolls of fabric stock and explaining what the name of each fabric was (I'm a guy, I don't know these things -- but I knew the look I wanted). They did a really nice job on 3 separate projects for me: Re-upholstering the seats of 5 mid-century kitchen/dining chairs, creative repair job on a leather ottoman that my dog had partially destroyed, making separate seat cushion and ottoman cushion from one single chaise cushion from an "L" shaped sofa. The chairs were a straightforward job, but the other 2 jobs required some thinking, discussion, and head scratching. Johnny gladly accepted the challenge and came up with ideas on the best way to do things. When I have other upholstery needs I will be back. read more

I have a Donzi 35 ZFX with a lot of upholstery. The boat is now 10 years old but in great shape but the vinyl needs work. I took the numerous pieces to Johnny, it's a three color pattern, white, blue, silver. So not easy work. I think the replacement vinyl looks better than brand new. These guys are amazing. Really. I brought them a 50 year old car seat to reupholster. After I brought it home, I decided to have a close look at it. Turns out they reused the 50 year old moldy foam and cotton batting and just put a new cover on it. I think they were trying to save a few bucks and thought I wouldn't notice. I took my 25 year old dinette chairs in to Johnny's to rebuild and recover the cushions. He had fabric in stock which saved me the hassle of finding some elsewhere.
